The roster can change after the ALDS. With a better August, Bruney might not have fallen out of Girardi's circle of trust.
The outcome of the Twins-Tigers game can alter Girardi's thinking with positional reserves.

People who regard Molina replacing Posada in the lineup as giving away "just a few ABs" have a fundamental misunderstanding of how Posada's bat functions in the Yankees' circular lineup, and how that relentless offense shortens opposing pitcher's starts and helps wear out opposing BPs.

The whole basis of the Yankees' superiority this season revolves around power pitching and a circular lineup with ridiculous OPS, lefties who can hit LHP, and switch hitters who present constant headaches for opposing managers.

That wear and tear, over the course of a series, is what the Yankees bring to trump their opponents. It's also how they won 103 games.

The "few ABs" affect the whole lineup: Molina being an offensive cipher affects he who bats in front of him, and he who bats behind him. It also doesn't allow the lineup to turn over, and doesn't allow the dangerous lineup to get excess swipes. We don't just overwhelm teams - we WEAR THEM DOWN and dealing with our lineup, over and over again, becomes too much for them.

I hope AJ is lights out - because when you remove Posada from the lineup, one can't expect the Yankee offense to just take it in stride. The circle becomes a horseshoe - it's not the same team.

Think of it this way: if it were such a trifle, just some gratuitous bat in an All-Mighty lineup, why would the Yankees be falling all over themselves to groom Montero as a catcher? Why wouldn't they just let that kid work on his jacks as a DH and have Cervelli be the catcher?

OPS from the catcher is one of the things that separates the Yankees from their competition. If you don't understand the value of that, you don't understand what makes your own team a cut above.

Didn’t Rueben Sierra come off the bench and hit a double that plated the go ahead run

I think he hit a pinch hit homer maybe even a grand slammer.

Why has no one brought up the plain fact that Posada won't call pitches in the dirt with men on base because he's a little worried about passed balls? Burnett's best out pitch is his diving curve ball and he needs it most when there are men on base. He needs a catcher who is quick enough to get his body in front of the ball. The irony is that Jorge is probably quicker than Molina but he has a very bad habit of reaching instead of blocking. I think that has more to do with the switch than anything.

Still trying to come to terms with the fact that someone, presumably an adult, used the phrase: 'plate of shut up'.

There's a lot less controversy when you go with your starting players than with backups, I think.

Betsy -

I hope it's not going to bite them. I really do think this team is strong and solid enough to withstand this little turn of events.

The thing I keep coming back to is the psychological thing. If a guy thinks he's better with a certain guy behind the plate, then he is, at least in his mind.

Listen, I have my fingers crossed as much as the next person; and my preference (if it counted) would be for Posada to be in there. But I really do think it will be okay in the end.

Nobody's "scared of playing the Twins". The way they play and that bullpen and 1st six hitters in the order had better give you a healthy respect for them. Detroit is also no pushover. It would do well to respect all of these teams, because they can all end NYY's season in three games.
