Thanks for the details Sam…these days are going to go so slowly!!

  2. CountryClub

Pete made his 1st post over at Boston.com and the comments from Yankees fans outnumbers Sox fans 5 – 1. I wonder if the paper thought it was possible for Yankees fans to take over the blog?? My guess is the Yankees traffic will slow down…but you never know.

  3. Brian from PA

ugh. so glad there’s at least a baseball game today. yesterday was brutal.

“Pete made his 1st post over at Boston.com and the comments from Yankees fans outnumbers Sox fans 5 – 1. I wonder if the paper thought it was possible for Yankees fans to take over the blog??”

My guess is one of the reasons they hired Pete was because he would bring over some followers of this blog to their blog.

It’s a Boston paper, but web traffic is web traffic.

  5. Jeffster

Thanks for the hard work Sam. I’ve been looking for Abe’s work on Boston.com. So far only 1 post from him. I wonder if they are holding back the reigns a bit…..

  6. Christina- Here come the bandwagoners...

Hey look, a new face on the blog. Welcome Chad!!

I was listening to WEEI this morning and they are talking about the upcoming series. Of course they had to throw in the bit about the Yankees spending (if they don’t win the first round that will be the most expensive team to lose in the first round ha ha ha ha ha.) But what I found most interesting was Michael Holly’s take on the ALCS. He definitely wants it to be a Sux-Yanks series. He said he would find it almost boring if it wasn’t and that when the Yanks and Sux play the ALCS, the world series is almost anticlimatic.

Ah that I could be that generous of spirit of care that much about the “interest” aspect of the game. I want the Angles to take the Sux down like the sinking of the Titanic. I want them to be mashed into oblivion, preferably in three games.

In every game they ever play I root for a Sux loss. Why would I stop now?

Can’t help it. They’re just not my beverage of choice.

  9. JasonR

I have to admit a part of me wants the Yankees to play the Red Sox because it would be sweeter to go through them on the way to #27, and it would blunt the sting from 2004.

But I can’t bring myself to root for them against the Angels. I hope they get swept.

  11. The Ghost

Anyone know the records of teams in the DS or CS for that matter (prior to wildcard) when they were involved in a heated pennant race vs. teams that had their spot sewed up weeks before?

  12. austinmac

I am now officially nervous. I attribute it to postseason traumatic stress disorder suffered from 2004-2007. A series win is my prescribed treatment.

  13. Bronx Jeers

Web traffic is web traffic but that blog is not good.

I’m have no doubt that Pete is chomping on the bit over there but I’m sure the political landscape he finds himself in is holding him back. How many different writers contribute to that rag?

The most recent post was the umpire post from yesterday. You think if Pete was here that would be it?

Over here he was the head homey in charge, over there he’s probably “that new Yankee guy”.

Just looked for playoff tickets. There are still some Legends seats available. Face is 906.00$.

  14. Hokiehill

well the website running Pete’s new blog is crap…way too cluttered and slow to load…I was going to post a comment on his “greetings from gate…” post but an “unexpected error occured” and I was unable to do so…probably because I said I never read their paper during registration (how would I in Richmond, VA?!). The paper may be a better mover, but paper will be gone and a few years and all that will be left is the internet. Congrats to the Journal News for being ahead of the game on having a servicable website, unlike Pete’s new gig. Anyway, Sam, you’ve been doing a great job these past few days and I look forward to Chad getting started, along with the playoffs!

  15. Jonathan

Has SJ44 posted since Pete’s departure? I truly loved reading his insights into the team, and feel that the board hasn’t been the same these past few weeks.

  16. Doreen

    Welcome Chad!

My PSTSD symptoms began in 2001. 2004 only made things far worse!!!

Ghost, I don’t have the answer to that, but I do remember a recent postseason (2006? not sure) where one of the teams that eeked it out at the end actually went further than the early clinchers and sportscasters postulated that the long wait actually hurt the favorites.

New airport gate post from Pete now up:

Jeers I actually considered going for it but every ticket that came up on yankees.com was behind the net and I wouldn’t sit there if the ticket was free. So I finally gave up.

Yep, see Tigers in 2006 and Rockies in 2007.

  21. NYY626

Its hard for me to root for the sox, but I really want revenge after 04. And its a no doubter that a yanks/sox series will be wayyy more exciting than yanks/angels. HOWEVER, I am in a sweat just thinking about the stress of those 03 and 04 ALCS’s. And, it would sting a hell of a lot more to lose to the Sox than the Angels. Therefore, I am completely indecisive right now :)

  22. The Ghost

Pete’s real value to this blog was the inside info he offered from his fly on the wall observations from the clubhouse and the insight he gained from his relationships with the players. I doubt he’ll really hit his stride on the new blog until he develops those traits in Boston.

True story: When we played the sox in August back when we were still 0-8, I listened to New York New York and Enter Sandman on repeat my entire commute home before the 1sr game. I wanted to send good Yankee vibes to the universe. It clearly worked!

  24. raymagnetic

Why doesn’t anyone want to avenge the *2* playoff losses to the Angels :???:

  25. raymagnetic

Must be a personal thing, but I hate the Angels as much and maybe even more than I hate the Red Sox.

I especially can’t stand looking at Mike Scoiscia’s smug face in the dugout.

Just once I would like to see the Yankees wipe that smug look off of Fat Scoscia’s face.

  26. trisha - OPPC lifetime member and a believer in baseball karma

NYY626 – all absolutely good and valid points. I totally understand the ambivalence.

However consider this. Playing the Sux is always an exhausting proposition. By the time the ALCS is over, the world series is almost an afterthought – if you know what I mean. I think the pain would be greater if the Yanks go all the way and the Sux are one and out. And no matter how you slice it, the Yankas winning the world series is the ultimate prize. Still, I understand the ambivalence.

  27. NYY626

Does anyone know where this section is:MSSB3? My friend might have an extra ticket for tomorrow but I have no idea where that is….

  28. The Ghost

NYY626, As painful as 2004 was I really think there is nothing better in sports than a Yankee/Red Sox series so I can never root against it. Especially with the current cast of characters on each team who seem to really revel in the historic rivalry (Varitek, Posada, Rivera, Jeter, Youkilis, Lowell, Beckett and Papelbon)

  29. trisha - OPPC lifetime member and a believer in baseball karma

I’m gonna guess Mohegan Sun sports bar. If you go on yankees.com you can see the sxchematic.

  30. trisha - OPPC lifetime member and a believer in baseball karma

Ray I don’t hate the Angels but would love vindication. Yeah I can see that. Because I personally have an easy time thinking of 2004 as 2004* the sting isn’t there for me. I actually hated the one and out with the Tigers more.

    :(

I agree, from his post today it seems he is not going to be the full time beat writer but will be around from time to time. It is possible he never gets the type of access to the players he had in NY, def wont happen this year due to relationships etc. I think this will open him up to do more actual writing and less blog posting. With that said I will read his blog as well, and wish him the best.

As far as this blog, it has not skipped a beat. Not one. I am shocked that I feel the value of it has actually gone up. Sometimes we may miss Pete’s personality but I really hope Sam stays involved over the winter and next year as I have gotten to like the way he does things. He has kept all the good stuff Pete did and added some really good things that were not here before.

  32. The Ghost

raymagnetic, I think your anger toward Scioscia is misplaced and should have been directed at Torre all those years. Scioscia had a formula of play that Torre refused to match and therefore allowed the Yankees to always be on their heels worried about Scioscia’s next move. I think (hope) Girardi has figured out Scioscia this year – when you put him back on his heels his team’s weaknesses get exposed in the same way a screen passing football team can expose a bad defense that makes themselves seem stronger because they blitz all the time.

  33. NYY626

Oh Mohegan sports bar! Thanks Trisha!
