WOW …
Now that’s a way to start the postseason.
What a rally by the Twins, who took full advantage of a Tigers team that should have locked up the division a week ago and then won one of the best elimination games you’ll ever see.
If you’re a Yankees fan, here’s what’s good: The Twins probably won’t get to New York until sometime early tomorrow morning; they’ve burned a ton of pitchers and will be using a bullpen that’s basically in pieces; their best player, Joe Mauer, just caught 12 innings of high-pressure baseball and will sit on a plane for three hours before getting to sleep.
Here’s what’s bad: The Twins are the hottest team in baseball; they’ve got karma, momentum, mojo or whatever you want to call it on their side (how many times did Detroit look like they’d won it?); they’ve got – gasp! – Carl Pavano.
UPDATE, 9:56 p.m.: TBS just said that Brian Duensing is the Twins Game 1 starter. His stats are here.

so what will the Twins rotation be now? Pavano in 2 and 5?
Bring them on! Go Yankees
No question about this, it will be interesting — the Twins have the momentum!
Brian Dunsing. Scouting report now Flash.
GO YANKEES! (Just like the banner says in the upper deck)
Wow. How could Leyland leave Rodney in there for a 3rd full inning? The bullpen is terrible, but you’ve gotta have some faith in some of the guys you have out there. Bring it, Twins!
What a fantastic baseball game. Bring on the Twins!
Repost:
And I don’t get the “be careful what you wish for”. We gotta play one of these teams. They both have their strengths that can trip us up.
What we say and wish for here has no bearing on the results of this game and the outcome of the ALDS.
That said, hoot hoot, no Verlander!
=================================================
And hopefully the Twins will be mentally exhausted. Or at the very least physically exhausted.
It would seem that since Nathan and Crain both threw under 25 pitches they could still probably pitch tomorrow. The only reliever who really got burned with a high pitch count was Keppel. Plus their offense is not just Joe Mauer as many would seem to think. Kubel and Cuddyer both had great seasons.
All my friends were rooting for the Twins because it seemed like a better match-up. I told them to be careful what you wish for. I’ve learned rooting for an opponent has a tendency to backfire!
Pavano, Blackburn or Verlander, Jackson. I’ll take my chances with the Idle.
amazing game, thanks for providing the goods for the yanks and bads against the twins, i feel alot better about tomorrow’s game.
GO yannnnnks!
7-0 against the Twins this season. Not a problem.
eh–the Tigers are the only .500+ team they have played since August
If I had any concerns is that the Twins may turn their fortunes around for once. I mean, they have Pavano! Will he pull off the same feat that Kenny Rogers did a few years ago when he was with the Tigers? Rogers of course was terrible as a Yankee yet somehow became an ace against them, that foreign substance on his fingers notwithstanding.
Any Yankee fan has to be happy with the way this played out. Granted, you never want to take on the hot team, but they’re coming in drained – both physically and emotionally – to face a well rested NYY team.
Go Yanks!
Pavano vs Burnett games 2 and 5 (if necessary). Can you imagine if it goes to 5 games? That will be insane along with the Molina/Posada debate.
if dunsing is going tomorrow, what the flaw in the logic to start burnet tomorrow and save CC for a better matchup?
The Twins have the momentum but that will change if the Yankees come out and throw a few runs up there early. The Twins’ adrenaline will taper off and they will crash. Who the heck is pitching for them tomorrow?
I think Marte is now a lock to make the ALDS roster. The twins have some really good leftys. Plus Mauer owns Phil Coke.
Momentum is only as good as the next nights starting pitcher…
That was one heck of a game
“Karma” is a load of BS. Something to give writers another story and something for fans to wring their hands over.
I will take my chances with Blackburn, Pavano and Baker. Even though the Yanks will probably try too hard to smack Pavano around. But anything is better than having to facing Verlander. I can’t believe the Twins are pitching Duensing the AAA guy in game 1.
Does anyone know where we can get some ugly NYC pigeons to swarm the field while Pavano is pitching on short notice?
Momentum is the next day’s starting pitcher.
And that is why I do not understand at all why people wanted the Twins over the Tigers. The Twins are hot, and the Tigers were stumbling around and stinking up the place. I have a very bad feeling about this.
Congrats to the Twins. They’ve won the right to get their @$$ kicked by the Yankees.
Duensing is going to sing his final swan song, get it LOL
Pavano better be careful during the post-game celebration. We are all very familiar with how brittle his body can be.
Gotta play Posada against Pavano. I think that would scare the crap out of Idle.
That was one of the best non-Yankee baseball games I have ever seen, but the Twins have GOT to be wiped out, or will be, by the time they hit the sheets late, late tonight.
Rock AND Roll YANKEES!
Let’s get this thing started…can someone tell me what Arod’s numbers are in the metrodome?
If I recall he was really good in the metrodome in 2004.
I hope everyone on the Twins drinks at least 4 bottles of champagne this evening.
They were 7-0 against them but 3 of those were walk off weekend in NY.
No Morneau will help this time but I’m not counting my chickens…..
Yankees need to step on the Twins necks early. Take em out.
The twins look like they’re boozing it up in the clubhouse. Drink up boys
Before we all get so carried away with this Twins winning streak let’s all remember they faced a total of 2 teams with winning records in the last two months.
“Momentum is the next day’s starting pitcher.”
Geez, I know they don’t have many star pitchers, but I never heard of this Momentum the Twins are running out there tomorrow.

7-0 against the Twins this season. Not a problem.
———–
just like in 07 when the Yankees were undefeated against the indians right?
or in 06 when they had Detroit’s number in the reg season.
regular season=worthless.
MLB should really think about adding 2 more wildcards and letting the wildcard teams play 1 game to advance. That would make the wildcards push to win the divisions and start the playoffs off with alot of juice.
Hmmm. Let’s see, should we have rooted for Verlander vs. Pavano to face in a possible game 5? Hmmm…
I hope THE Twins SHOW UP DRUNK TOMMOROW. ROFL
Drink up Twins!
jason- LOL me too!!
pat- that is one thing that scares me a little. It took walkoffs to win.
Every year there are teams that come into the postseason smoking hot that get snuffed out pretty quickly. Remember, the season is already a success for Minnesota, not sure if that’s a plus or a minus vs. the Yankees. I’ll still take the Yankees in 4. Tomorrow at 6:07 can’t get here quick enough.
Yes, keep drinking. All night. Celebrate my friends, celebrate hard. ***evil grin***
Didn’t see new link, repost:
The Yankees shouldn’t let the 7-0 record against the Twins in reg season go to their heads. Remember in 2007, we won every game vs. the Indians and then lost the ALDS
OK, let the postseason angst and ulcers officially begin!
The Twins could always change their starter to Blackburn. It’s not like the TBS guy spoke to the Twins after the game.
The good thing about the Yankees facing the hottest team is that there should be less worry about a let-down.
“I hope everyone on the Twins drinks at least 4 bottles of champagne this evening.”
Too bad Tigers didn’t win because we KNOW Cabrera would.
“MLB should really think about adding 2 more wildcards and letting the wildcard teams play 1 game to advance. That would make the wildcards push to win the divisions and start the playoffs off with alot of juice.”
This scenario is so smart and would make so much sense that Selig would never do it. They could potentially have tonight’s Twins-Tigers game every year and they won’t do it. Why? I don’t know.
“Before we all get so carried away with this Twins winning streak let’s all remember they faced a total of 2 teams with winning records in the last two months.”
Twins momentum is being overblown.
It’s going to get down to pitching.
And the yankees have systematically better pitching – in both their rotation and pen than the Twins.
Pitching – especially power pitching wins in the post season.
The yankees have tons of power arms from 1-10. The twins just don’t.
Post game on MLB Network if anyone cares.
One for the ages…
ESPNNews just recapped the game and are previewing the series after the break (no MLBNetwork in the hotel)
While I do not totally write off any team that makes it to the postseason (well except for one ha ha) I definitely like our chances.
GO YANKEES!!!
Nice comeback and win by the Twins tonight! I like ‘em, they are scrappy.
Too bad the Yanks are going to club them like baby seals.
(it’s just a joke, i love seals!)
“Momentum is the next day’s starting pitcher.”
BINGO! It’s all CC tomorrow.
I want Carl Pavano. I’ll say it again: I want Carl Pavano. Call this the “Postseason of Exorcism.”
Let’s get rid of all of the demons of the last 9 years, since Mo gave up the blooper in Arizona.
The joke of a pitcher the Idle was for the Yankees for four years needs to be avenged–that’s a start.
It has to be this way, and it should.
Bring it on.
Tino on Centerstage right now
It’s IMPERATIVE to win the first game against the Twins. Teams of “destiny” can’t start believing they can win. They need to have their egos punctured ASAP.
We need this game tomorrow in a big, big way.
Give Cabrera credit, though. He showed up to play.
Okay, now we can do drunk jokes again.
No offense but wanting Verlander over Pavano could be the most ridiculous thing I’ve read on this blog in a long time.
One is an ace, maybe best arm in league, the other is a head case/brittle #4, maybe #3 on a mediocre staff. Come on man, use your heads a little!!
momentum is a myth
TylerKepner; So Carlos Gomez reaches the playoffs before Johan Santana … just like everyone thought when the Mets and Twins made that trade.

“ESPNNews just recapped the game and are previewing the series after the break”
Will they get Brett Favre’s take on the game?
The fans at the stadium better be all over the Idle on Friday. They need to get in his big ugly head.
in beisbol
“Before we all get so carried away with this Twins winning streak let’s all remember they faced a total of 2 teams with winning records in the last two months.”
Exactly. Not to mention their pitchers’ postseason tune-up was facing the dreadful Royals and Tigers lineup 11 straight games.
I don’t care how hot the Twins are, the Yankees are a better team. There is no excuse for not getting past the Twinkies……..Pavano is tough on the Yankees, I’m already past the point of making fun of him.
CB, you know what a big AJ fan I am…..He was one of my favorites from the moment he signed, before I even saw him walk into camp. His non-actions with regards to Posada really annoyed me, but beyond that, I’m simply extremely disappointed in him. He let his team down……..even if he pitches well in the post-season, he still let his team down. As someone who would know, do you think he’s going to have a problem in this clubhouse going forward? I can’t imagine his teammates are too happy with him…………I also never want to see him throw another pie in my life.
This game could have gone either way. I don’t feel Gardenhire outmanaged Leyland. In no way did the Twins dominate. It went into extra innings there is only so much a manager can do with a dwindling bp.
I’m really feeling the Pavano hate right now, and it’s quite liberating.
“Will they get Brett Favre’s take on the game?”
I thought Favre was still deciding whether to go to the game or just stay home.

Well, they’ve got Peter Gammons…
check out duensing’s splits:
VS. LEFT: .244 / .579 VS. RIGHT: .269 / .742 HOME: .229 / .624 AWAY: .305 / .797
i like the away stats
a link to yahoo for stats? Fangraphs all the way. We need a SABR aware blogger!!!
jk. but fangraphs will give you more info than you can you will be able to digest.
The game plan is always score early and often….in the
game tomorrow it might be even more important. Given that they just expended TONS of effort to overcome a 7 game deficit, caught and finally played an emotionally draining 163rd game and that game went to extra innings…they have to be a little drained.
Getting into the Twin bullpen early tomorrow could damage them for the entire series.
People keep bringing up that we were undefeated against the Indians in 2007 and owned the Tigers in 2006, but this time I feel the regular season IS indicative of the matchup.
The Yankees starting pitching in 2009 is MUCHHHH better than those 2006 and 2007 teams, as in those years we dominated those season series through slugging our way to victory. This year, we’ve won with precise pitching and a solid bullpen. On top of that, we own the Twins historically and play very well in the Metrodome (better than any other visiting team I believe).
Our pitching is perfect for this short series, our hitting is great as always, and our bullpen is the best its been since our championship years. In 2006 and 2007, you could not say you were confident in our pitching, thats why we were vulnerable in a short series. This team however, in 2009, is BUILT for a short series.
One game at a time people.
Tigers or Twins, I couldn’t have cared less.
The Yankees need to focus on winning one ballgame at a time and not get ahead of themselves.
I don’t like the word Karma.
however, since you brought it up:
Carl Pavano robbed the Yankees of $39.9 million dollars.
The problem with Duensing is that the Yankees have never really seen him. The Yankees have been known to get shut down when they face a pitcher that they’ve never seen before…
I respect the Twinkies and if they beat the Yankees, I will root for them to win the WS….but I don’t ascribe to the “they are due” theory. That’s BS. If they beat the Yankees, it’s because they were a better team, not because the baseball gods declared that 0-7 was enough.
“TylerKepner; So Carlos Gomez reaches the playoffs before Johan Santana … just like everyone thought when the Mets and Twins made that trade.
3 minutes ago from web”
Ouch! Omar felt that punch.
Is John Kruk trying to say the Twins will win?
Since September 11th, the Twins have played series against OAK, CLE, DET, @CHI, @KC, @DET, and KC.
So yeah, not exactly tough competition. In fact, since August 20th, they’ve played a grand total of ONE series (@TOR) against a team that has scored more runs then they’ve allowed.
Betsy has it right. There is simply no excuse for this Yankee team to not get past the Twins. None at all. We are the better team by a lot.
“his stats are here”? hmm I dunno, Pete would have just posted the stats for us lol
jk ;]
Krusty said the Twins will have a tough go, without strikeout pitchers.
Eric Young talking about this is CC’s year to erase the demons. Well rested.
That was an amazing game! Bring it on Twins!!! Game time!!!
GO YANKEES!!!
I didn’t watch the game at all – Leyland really sat Jackson and Verlander while a bunch of schmoes came in and gave up the lead twice? They must have felt helpless……..Isn’t there a day off between game 1 and 2? Couldn’t Verlander have closed the game tonight and still pitched game two…or at worst, be pushed to game 3?
The Twins lineup is basically 3 guys. You have to try to control Mauer as best as you can, Kubel and Cuddyer. Cabrera will get hits here and there and everyone else are these little slap .250 hitting nobodies.
GGBC, I would have felt that way about the Tigers……I don’t want any excuses from this team. If they don’t get it done, they can all look at themselves in the mirror……
How has Burnett let this team down??
I hate kruk……we have karma too. AJ, CC and Alex are due for big time play.
Rishi, that post from Kepner is pretty good.
The Twins have a much better organization than the Mets. That they can rebound from that awful Santana trade, and the Mets are screwing around in Flushing, is testament to that.
“I don’t care how hot the Twins are, the Yankees are a better team. There is no excuse for not getting past the Twinkies……..Pavano is tough on the Yankees, I’m already past the point of making fun of him”
i’m not.
before he even signed with the yankees, i heard stories of how he used to be a bully and beat up kids. He’s an @ssshole.
Gammons looks like he’s at the urologist. Not comfortable at all.
so i guess its:
Game 1: Sabathia vs Duensing
Game 2: Burnett vs Blackburn
Game 3: Pettite vs Pavano
Game 4: Sabathia vs Baker
Game 5: Burnett vs Blackburn
???
Hey, where did the pat at 10:09 come from? It’s not me.
Yanks faced Duensing on July 7th.
He relieved Baker, who the Yanks had just hammered for 5 Runs on 9 hits and 2 BBs over 3IP.
Duensing went 2.2 IP, gave up 4 ER on 2 hits and 4 BBs. No real big hits off of him, he just walked everyone.
Will some of you calm down. The Twins have some good hitters but they shoud have lost this game. The only reason why they won was because the Tigers suck with RISP. They allowed the Twins to win. You can’t compare the 2009 Tigers to the 2006 Tigers, 2007 Indians.
Mauer better bring his walking shoes tomorrow cause he’ll be doing a lot of it in the next 2 games.
SF Brando,
He let his team down by not insisting that Posada catch him.
Gammons just said the Yanks have Hughes and Mo at the back of the bullpen and no other team has guys like that at the back end. He said they are terrific.
sorry- should
Does anyone know if we can listen to the game on 1050 ESPN tomorrow or are we stuck with John “It is high it is….Caught” Sterling and Suzyn “OMG is She Awful” Waldman?
“I don’t like the word Karma.
however, since you brought it up:
Carl Pavano robbed the Yankees of $39.9 million dollars.”
vinny-b, you absolutely read my mind. I am now going with PAVANO KARMA!
I also never want to see him throw another pie in my life.
________________________________________________________________
Betsy, if Jeter gets a walkoff and he is not pied, I’ll cry.
I like our chances tomorrow, I’ll let my ulcer bleed on Friday with Anything-Can-Happen-AJ.
Molina’s 3 ab’s are not nearly as important as burnetts 90-100 pitches. we all love jorge. but sometimes guys get personal catchers. no biggie. he has not “let his team down” And I would think you would want to see him throw a few more pies.
I hate analyzing teams by position. The Yankees have sat on ice since Sunday – for all we know, they’ll be dreadful. Maybe they’ll play like they played against the Nats……they aren’t unbeatable. The games are played on paper and the Twins don’t know that they are supposed to lose. It doesn’t matter about no-name pitchers – the name of the game is just winning, just getting the job done. The Twins have done that. The Yankees should win, but we have seen lots of “shoulds” in recent years. Let’s hope the bats don’t turn to sawdust in their hands, Andy doesn’t forget how old he is and CC pitches up to the back of his baseball card (at least the regular season part_)
Best match up the Yanks could ask for. Starting pitching wins in the playoffs and the Tigers have more than then Twins. I am looking forward to smacking Pavano around
The Tigers gave away this division to the Twins, and they gave away this game. The Twins took advantage of a weakness they have had all season long- RISP.
“Pavano better be careful during the post-game celebration. We are all very familiar with how brittle his body can be
only when he has guaranteed money.
Can somebody tell me how A.J. Burnett has let the team down? Simply because he’s more comfortable pitching to Molina? Doesn’t anybody remember in the 90′s when Greg Madduz didn’t like throwing to Javy Lopez? Did the world end when Eddie Perez became Maddux’s personal catcher for years?
I think Game 2 we will see the loudest booing ever in MLB history.
haha gammons just called brian duensing “bobby duensing”
Betsy
All of the postseason teams have been working out and training. They aren’t sitting around eating chips and watching television. So you are just assuming the yankees will be flat.
Ack. Almost impossible to get tickets.
Is it wrong that I keep searching around looking for a ALDS preview already…
how is pavano getting the game 2 start blackburn pitched saturday and pavano pitched sunday
Yanks in 4. Arod is going to be huge this postseason
Okay – go Yanks!!!
Why would the Yankees be flat? It’s not as if they’ve been idling for the last 10 days…they played on Sunday!
Best case scenario?
Twin’s make it their hotel 4:00 am? 5:00 am?
I hope they’re in a busy midtown hotel. Do teams still stay at the Grand Hyatt?
Maybe they’ll stay on a low floor-streetside.
The Twins might try to pitch Pavano in game 3 to “protect” him from Yankee Stadium. Gardenhire knows the fans will rip him apart if he pitches here. Might be better to pitch that loser at home.
hey guys, i have a pavano yankeee teeshirt jersey i stole from a buddy a few years ago— and im going on friday, what should i do with it???????
How about this sign at Yankee Stadium: “John Kruk, You Suck.” What a joke of an analyst. Even Pete Abe called him out a few weeks ago, that’s how bad he is. He should wear a bag on his head.
I like Ron Gardenhire, and the Twins are a scrappy bunch, but this series is for me about one man: the American Idle, Carl Pavano.
I felt relief after that joker finally left the team, and pitching for Cleveland seemed like he was far away and forgotten. So he gets traded to the Twins–ok, AL Central, still not going to think about him.
But now its the post-season, and the baseball gets serious, so things suddenly get put in the spotlight–namely Carl.
Sorry Mrs. Pavano, I know you’re a die hard Yankee fan and all, but what your son did in 4 years with the Yankees was about as scummy as I have seen in 35 years of watching baseball. At least own up to it! Refund a portion of your darn salary, even though the players union would have a heart attack! At least admit that you’re basically unable to perform on the big stage–then we could all see that you have some humility.
But no! Your son stays on the 40 man last year to get pension money, and screws it up so the Yankees have trouble manipulating the roster in a tough season. Did it matter–who knows?
All I know, Mrs. Pavano, is I want Carl going in game 2 (if Gardenhire has the balls to pitch him then), and I want the Yankees to score 10 runs in 3 IP.
I’m sorry, but he deserves it.
It’s OK to feel a little more confident against the Twins despite what happened against the Indians in 2007.
In 2007, the Indians were tied with the Sox for the best record in baseball. The Yanks were a wild card team. The Indians had two 19 game winners in Sabathia and Carmona with a solid bullpen, and featured hitters such as Sizemore and Victor Martinez.
Now, it is the Yankees who own the best record in the league with 103 wins. It took Minnesota a play-in game to clinch a playoff spot. Their pitching is unspectacular, with Scott Baker as their pitcher with the most wins. Joe Mauer is the best player in the game right now, but the rest of the lineup is unimpressive.
This is totally different from 2007: different opponent, different coach, different players.
It’s time to turn the corner on these first round playoff losses…
NYY, Jeter can pie himself, lol……..or Posada can pie him. Anyone but AJ.
Ramey, I despise personal catchers…….and I hated it when Greg Maddux refused to pitch to Lopez.
guy me and my brother are fighting i say that if the tigers won rodney wouldnt have been ready to go 2moro. he says its all hands on deck, it doesnt matter if he tired who right me or him
Too bad Nathan only threw 21 pitches tonight. It seemed like a lot more.
I don’t care what Pavano has done against the Yankees this year or how “tough” he has been, etc. I am going to the game he pitches Friday night and I intend to boo, jeer, hiss, scream, whatever at everything that overpaid undermotivated $40 million dollar thief does. His one appearance in the Bronx with Cleveland was the 1st series of the season. Things will be a little different Friday in playoff baseball with a (hopefully) very fired up home crowd and a much better team.
Stupid *virtual* waiting room, lol.
The Yankees may have gotten too cute, stretching the ALDS schedule, allowing extra off days that will give the Twins needed rest
Guys, I really don’t see the need over all this AJ/Molina 2nd guessing. This is AJ’s 1st post season start, Joe is simply trying to make this as comfortable as possible for the guy. There is obviously some tension there that he and the rest of the coaches see; they’re there every day, not us. I trust them to make the right move here.
Molina has the better arm, I know that Jorgie has the better throwing % this season but you can’t argue this fact. The Twins are going to be running all over the place, he blocks the plate significantly better too. With AJ’s nasty hook you want your best defender in there period.
Jorgie will be ready and waiting to PH relatively early in the game, you’re not talking about late innings here unless AJ is throwing a gem. You also have him mad as hell going into tomorrow’s game which is not a bad thing at all.
Let’s see how this plays out before complaining about his cream pies. Sorry Betsy, not to single you out, but I feel that AJ’s brought some badly needed fresh air to this clubhouse (I can’t kill him for this, look at some of the other SP’s that have had issues with Jorgie over the years, as much as we love him it’s true). I hope to see a few more of those pies during the course of the next 3-4 weeks!
And really the thought of seeing Pavano, and sitting at the Metrodome while doing so is really testing my enthusiasm, lol.
Andy is the only thing keeping me in the waiting room.
Betsy October 6th, 2009 at 10:22 pm
NYY, Jeter can pie himself, lol……..or Posada can pie him. Anyone but AJ.
Betsy you know it wont be the same!
The Twins beat a Tigers team that’s been reeling for weeks. The Yankees will prove to be a much tougher opponent. Although the Twinkies will put up a fight… Yanks in 4.
Yankees will win this series easily. They have an unstoppable bullpen (Rivera, Hughes, Chamberlain). The hitters will destroy those junk ball throwing minnesota starting pitchers.
Anything less than a sweep will be disappointing.
Whoa. Did not know that the Dodgers face the Cardinals. Tough draw for the Blue.
Why does everyone have such disdain for A.J.? I find no fault in anything that’s happened, whatever he thinks will help him do the best to help the team win, I’m fine with. Jorge needs to check his ego at the door and realize Girardi made the decision in the best interests of the team. Posada saying “we just better win that game, It’s not like I didn’t see it coming”, is opening up the door for everybody to read into things and blow it out of proportion.
-If for one moment you don’t think the Yankees don’t want a piece of Pavano……He will super motivate them, believe.
-Greinke (Ace KC),mouthed off to nesn.com last week, saying, the Yankee should hope to play the Twins, over the Tigers.
-Joe,his coaching crew, and Cashman watched these teams tonight(he said they would,)and will be prepared.
-If there’s one game the Yankees will be ready for is the one Pavano Pitches in!He got a no decision in Cleveland, remember?
-Joe Nathan was used tonight, and will get no rest, his arm won’t last.
Wow Jorge looked so young!
disdain for aj why? how about a 32 yr old underachiever who should contest for the cy young but is to stupid to be able to pitch effectively to the yanks best pitcher.
how about a guy who has never ever lived up to the promise and hype…
burnett is a career underachiever to this point.
if he comes out and dominate 5 post season games i will be ecstatic but when you do the crap he does there comes the spotlight.
i meant catcher of course.
MikeBoston, I felt like you did all the way until yesterday………I appreciate your opinion and I understand why you feel the way you do. However, this is just how I feel…Even if there is a walk-off, there won’t be any pies, neverminding this whole situation…at least, I wouldn’t.
Yankees in 4
Will people be confident in the Yankees. This is a different year a different team. Stop fearing the Twins. I respect them because they are a good team but don’t fear them. This should be a good ALDS.
The only thing I will say about Blackburn and Baker is…The Yanks did have a little bit of trouble facing them this season. They are strike throwers and the Yanks tried to be patient against them and before they knew it they were behind 0-2. So they can’t wait for the walk with these guys if they are throwing strikes.
I don’t know if this has been posted yet.
It’s like seeing an ex out and about with a new lover:
http://www.boston.com/sports/b.....rom_8.html
I wonder what’s more worse, Mets blowing a 7 game lead a few years ago or the Tigers blowing a 7 game lead and lost a tiebreaker?
I would say definitely the Tigers. Someone had to take the Mets’ place of choking this year since the Mets fell out of contention in July.
Jen, what are you watching that Jorge looked young?
So, he’s a POS. But if does well, then it’s all good?
-eric
burn the piece of trash!
“The Yankees need to focus on winning one ballgame at a time and not get ahead of themselves.”
Very true.
—————————————————————
Yankees will not take the Twins lightly like some people on this blog.
the twins are 10-22 against AL East and 24-20 in 1-run games – all I say is BRING IT ON!
Betsy,
stop being so negative towards AJ – he needs all of our love and good energy. After all, it’s all for the team and this team needs AJ at his best.
jennifer October 6th, 2009 at 10:31 pm
Wow Jorge looked so young!
________________________________________________________________
Are you watching the Tino thing? I thought the same thing!
Betsy-
I cannot believe how quickly your feelings on AJ turned. Bottom line, we need him to go out and pitch an amazing game. I don’t really give two cents who is catching it. I would offer to catch but then people would really get mad at Girardi.
And the pie thing.. its FUN. F-U-N. It’s what AJ does. He started it walk-off weekend against the Twins. Whatever mojo he had with the pies worked for them this season. Why throw away a winning recipe?
Can we stop talking about A.J. already. I am tired of hearing fans complain about this. What’s done is done. You can’t do anything about it.
There’s no sense calling A.J. names.
I just hope he pitches well and the Yankees win.
Don’t forget it is a reaaaaaaaaal good thing not to have to face leyland
Yep watching Tino on CenterStage. They showed the fight when Tino got drilled in the back. They showed Jorge holding Tino back. He looked like he was 15.
100 pitches of fun…
I think Girardi is aware of that. He talked about the Twin pitchers on the Joe Girardi show. I think the yankee hitters will be ready to make adjustments. But I noticed that the Twins hitters are not really patient but Joe Mauer is.
I wonder if Cabrera snuck into the Twins clubhouse to celebrate and get a drink?
I already have that nervous/excited feeling. The playoffs are here. Well almost.
Can’t wait for tomorrow
Its Jorge own fault. He had the whole season to get on the same page with Burnett but couldn’t. There have been plenty of pitchers like Mussina and Cone that didn’t want to throw to Posada.
Its a shame that they cant work together because it does hurt the team both ways. You always want Posada bat in the lineup but if he cant get on the same page with Burnett what good is his offense. Girardi made the right decision. Postseason is about pitching.
Erica, what can I say? CB put into words exactly how I feel. I loved the pie thing, loved it – couldn’t wait for it since ST. Sure the pie thing is fun……but I already explained why it means nothing at this point. IMO, he should have stepped up and insisted that Jorge catch him. His performances in August were on him, not Posada……just like his great performances in June/July were on him. He doesn’t have enough confidence in himself to believe he can do it? He needs his catcher as a crutch? Please don’t make it sound like I’m turning on AJ because I don’t like his new hair cut…….I think this whole episode is very revealing about the kind of teammate he is.
Nat, AJ is a Yankee and the Yankees come first. I will, of course, root for him to do well because that helps the team.
You know Jorgie hasn’t done a walkoff yet this year. Talk about irony if his first would come this Friday night as a PH. The pie would be flying, I have no doubt about this…
Erica, FYI – I don’t mean to sound snippy with you…..different strokes for different folks, I suppose. We are all Yankee fans, no matter what our opinions are…..
The Yankees have to come out ready to play. If they play flat and tense, we’ve got trouble.
Cal Ripken must have gotten the answers he was demanding in ST because he has Alex’s back again.
“Alex is the type of guy who draws so much attention in the middle of the order, teams have extra strategy in the postseason specifically for him,” the former World Series champion said. “They pitch him differently than everyone else and make sure he doesn’t beat them. Also, he then puts additional pressure on himself.”
“I do think this year is going to be different,” Ripken continued. “Their lineup is so good top to bottom, and they have so much power, there will be less specific emphasis on getting Alex out. I’m hopeful he has a solid offensive postseason.”

Why does Aj need to step up and demand Posada? Its the manager and the GMs choice. Burnett’s words or lack of words says nothing and any further comment by him would have only caused further scrutiny. Personally, I think AJ is the better teammate for just shutting up and letting team management do their jobs.
And the pie stuff?? yeah, loosening up your teammates, celebrating their victories… screams lousy teammate
Jorge had a walkoff.
It’s the time to stop enterring into endless arguments about AJ,Posoda and Molina.
Right now,We just need to think about how to beat Twins,Angel or Redsox whatever.
To be fans,We love Yankees and need give total support to Yankees’ all coaches and players.
“This year just one goal is win the world’s championship.”
“Believe we will win crown and no teams can prevent from it.”
Erica – always OPPC

I love the pie thing. It brings a much more looser atmosphere then the Yanks have had in a number of years. Yet if it was up to old cramudgen types like Francessa the Yanks would never smile or have any fun
Betsy, why should A.J. insisted that Posada catch him when he clearly is more comfortable and has a better rapport with Molina behind the plate? Burnett and Posada are both high strung and stubborn guys, that doesn’t mesh well. Molina is good at keeping burnett calm and getting him to remained focus and burnett seems to respond well to that.
Nobody ever made a big deal in the 90′s when greg maddux wouldn’t have javy lopez who was one of the best hitting catcher’s of the decade catch him, opting to have eddie perez instead. This is no different imo. Whatever gets our #2 starter comfortable and pitching the best is what needs to happen.
All this talk of A.J. letting the team down is silly
Its David vs. Goliath .. The little engine that could versus the Big Machine. It should be an interesting series but the Yanks will take this one in a clean sweep. They own the Twinkies.
Im sick of Burnett being able to dictate who his personal catcher is. This guy has never won anything and yet he has the nerve to piss off Jorge who has been a true Yankee for 15 years now? I harbor a lot more disdain of Burnett than I did a week ago. He BETTER pitch well to Molina or hes gonna here it.
I am hoping like hell Gardenhire give the ball to Pavano game 2. I will be booing like crazy, as will everyone else in the Stadium. Let’s give credit where credit is due- the Twins run to the playoffs was improbable, and sure, they have the momentum. But you can’t tell me you really wanted the prospect of facing Verlander twice in a 5 game series. and if you are, you’re insane. Pitching wins championships- why do you think the Yankees put down so much dough for CC and AJ?
Enjoy the bubbly, Twinks. It will be short lived.
How have the yanks hit Duensing?
nevermind, duh, it’s there.
The momentum stops here.
Its time for our bats to wake up again, and again.

I don’t know if this has been posted yet.
It’s like seeing an ex out and about with a new lover:

Now Pete’s going to be this Boston mark. He cites that he covered the “Dreaded Yankees,” and how he’s from the Boston area. He’s just a fat suckup, looking for money, and has no street cred in Boston whatsoever.
No question Pavano is motivated to do well as he’s seeking a contract. The Twins are on fire as the hottest team seems to win. After 12 innings playing on fumes and with Nathan unavailable, Yankees are well situated to win the first one. In any event, don’t take them for granted.
Am I right that unless he pitches on 3 days’ rest, Baker will not pitch until game 4?
GO YANKS!
I hope that &8^%%&^! Pavano get’s lit up like the 4th of July.
time for battle!
