I can't wait until this isn't a story anymore. Molina should start.

1. Burnett throws more wild pitches than anyone and Jorge has a tendency to pass a lot of balls.
2. Molina is the superior catcher.
3. They have 3 catchers on the roster and can pinch hit with Posada and then pinch run for him if necessary.
4. Molina WILL NOT hit late in the game if it is close.

The Yanks don't need his bat in the lineup. They need AJ to pitch well and solid defense.

None of this is a big deal.

as much as I think its a good move by Girardi, i don't like to hear Posada being called a prima-dona either.

Seriously, would you rather have a veteran NOT fight for his job, and take being benched lightly?

As someone (Wes) here said, Posada is fiery, and that's a good thing in sports..isn't it?

I heard rumblings of this before I left my old gig and now Joel Sherman of the New York Post is reporting that the Yankees are planning to keep Joba Chamberlain in the bullpen if they advance beyond the Division Series.

Chamberlain had mixed results against the Sox this season, going 2-1 in four starts with a 4.91 ERA. In 22 innings, he allowed 26 hits and struck out 24.

It's a smart move for the Yankees. Chamberlain had a 7.75 ERA in his last 10 starts of the season. Chad Gaudin doesn't scare anybody, but the Yankees were 6-0 in his starts and he posted a solid 3.43 ERA in 11 appearances overall.

The Yankees are surely cognizant that Gaudin has a 2.64 career ERA against Boston over 30.2 innings. It's not much of a sample size, but at least there is something they can point to.

It'll be interesting to see where this will leave Chamberlain come 2010. The pitcher Red Sox fans love to hate may be no better than a set-up man after all.

betsy -

I was going to check in on Pete every now and again, but now, I don't think it will be a smart thing for me to do. I have a feeling I will get slightly upset. I know he's a reporter and not a "fan," but it seems so drastic and kind of, I don't know, not right to switch sides like that so easily. It's like one day you argue that the sky is blue and the next day, you argue it's never been blue. Without missing a beat. Logically I understand - he writes for a paycheck. But I don't have to read it.

He was so much in the Joba is too good to not be a starter camp. The way that sentence was worded makes Joba sound like an untalented lump. :(

I didn't expect him to write pro-Yankee stuff. But I expected him to focus on pro-Red Sox, not anti-Yankee, you know what I mean?

(And I realize I sound naive here.)

jennifer, I actually heard the tape of his quote, what he said was fine, the way he said it told a different story. C'mon, he's best friends with Jeter, he knew what he was doing. He was upset and he let the media know in a way that gave him cover. He could have just said manager's decision and talked up Molina. He didn't...so it goes.

I'm confused. At the end of the audio that LoHud posted it cut off with "that's all I got to say". Why isn't all the stuff that came after that part of the quote on audio? Was that a follow up? A different quote?
