Mike,
Matsui has been telling Japanese reporters that he would like to stay in the US. His number 1 priority is to resign with the Yankees, but if not, he'll act in his best interest; he'll choose a team that makes him feel he's wanted/needed. He doesn't think there is any place for him in Japan's NPB. In fact his former team, Yomiuri Giants just gave his number 55 to a rookie whom they believed to be as good as Matsui.

And he never, ever said that he'd retire after this season.

I don't think Yanks will resign Matsui, but I strongly hope I'm wrong.

Hey all! Today I am batting 333, hopefully it will be 667 soon if this score holds up, and I am hoping to be batting 1000 by the end of the night.

Randy, I decided that our series is the Carl Pavano karma series, the Dodger series is the Manny Ramirez karma series, and the Sux series is the David Ortiz Karma series. What do you think?

Tak, cool story with Jeeter calling Matsui's bomb but don't read into that (Matsui's leaving) being the reason for the prediction. For one Matsui had an AB against him in July where he walked, maybe he had some really good swings. Plus Matsui has the most HR's against lefties in the league, so this wasn't a very bold prediction. Not to mention he is way healthier than he has been in the last few years and had his most HR's since 2004.

I think there is a very good chance that they bring him back on a 1 year with maybe a club option for a 2nd. He loves it here #1, #2 DH'ing has clearly agreed with him. #3 From what I hear he will only play for the NYY or go home to his original team in Japan (he is old school). #4 If they don't sign Damon it's a no brainer freeing up the DH spot that much more (I hope they bring both back BTW because you can give Matsui a few less games and use more as PH, like in interleague play this year, mixing in Damon more as DH plus rotating some of the older guys there as well).

I never liked Pete much. I liked how quick he was with his reporting and for the most part he did a good job with the blog. However, his bias opinions got in the way of his reporting. It was obvious and still is he hates A-Rod. He's two faced like some have pointed it. I for one don't miss his constant complaining about things such as: God Bless America in the 7th, the Final year countdown clock, the YMCA, the amount of home runs in the new stadium, the empty legions seats, A-Rod*, etc.

I really enjoy the new blog format and points of view because Pete got old. He complained more then anyone about a team that won 103 regular season games. I don't follow him anymore, who cares what he says now. He's gone and has shown the type of character he has. Good riddance Pete. LoHud got better replacements anyways.
