lets hope 4 and 5 wont be necessary

  2. arliss

Game 5 start time is moot – game 4 may be as well…..since its only a 5:07 start if both our series and Boston/Ananheim require a Game 4.

  3. iiicollies

    Sam, EDT times?

It’s time for “Guess the Line Up”

Please post your line up submissions with positions here (or subsequent threads). I will accept submissions until 2:30 or sooner if gets leaked online

haiku- there was a clip of Holliday on ESPN this am, he said it was the white towels that distracted him…probably not a good thing to admit to an opponent, he will be sure to see plenty next time.

Kate- Shockingly the first two submissions were slightly different for each other. My guess is the biggest difference will be the #6 & 7 spots.

  10. betsy

I still don’t get why we’re all treating AJ like he’s some space alien. He’s not the first first free agent pitcher we’ve ever signed and he’s not the first free agent pitcher to make his debut in pinstripes in the playoffs. This analysis of what he needs to do to be successful goes beyond anything I’ve ever seen. What on earth makes him so different from anyone else?

Oops, Francesca with the Joba/Gossage comparison – time to shut off.

  11. G. Love

There’s a part of me that hopes Joe bats Molina before Melky tonight so we don’t lose Melky giving way to Jeter as the order flips.

It’s kind of like that Larussa plan of batting the pitcher 8th.

  12. Andrew GTLU Bronze Medalist

Erica, going for 2 for 2 in the playoffs:

    Jeter SS
    Damon LF
    Teixeira 1B
    Rodriguez 3B
    Matsui DH
    Swisher RF
    Cano 2B
    Cabrera CF
    Molina C :(

    Hi Erica,

    Here is my line-up:

    Jeter – SS
    Damon – LF
    Tex – 1B
    Arod – 3B
    Matsui – DH
    Cano – 2B
    Swisher – RF
    Cabrera – CF
    Molina – C

    Thanks for doing this :)

Looks like the 6/7 robbie/swish slotting is going to be the only drama in tonights unveiling.

  17. vin

    Jeter – SS
    Damon – LF
    Teixeira – 1B
    Alex– 3B
    Matsui – DH
    Swisher – RF
    Cano – 2B
    Cabrera – CF
    Molina – C

    Seems straightforward enough…

  18. mick

it’s spelled francesa and i agree with him re: the gossage/joba comparison….i know he is the hate du jour but he has better yankee instincts and knowledge than most…especially in here.

At least there is some suspense. Wednesdays 100% correctness was very boring in my opinion :-)

  20. betsy

Francesca…”the great Beckett”. I think I’m going to be sick.

  21. arliss

Did he really just say “the great beckett”? What a complete loser. How did “the great beckett” do last October?

  22. G. Love

I don’t listen to Francessa anymore. I just read what you guys write in here. That was until I put him on radio driving to the game Wed. night.

I wanted to find him and slap him.

What I’m wondering is what the heck happened to him? He was the pink Caddillac guy back in the day who seemed to be the biggest Yankee homer on the airwaves.

Is this just because Mad Dog left and he wants to knock the Yankees to get calls or did something go down between him and the Yankees organization over the past years?

Did they not put sprinkles on his sundae or give him bad free seats or something?

It just seems odd that the guy who 10 years ago was Mr. Yankee (much more than Kay back then)is sitting here praising the Red Sox and knocking Jeter of all people.

He’s got to be doing it for ratings.

  23. Jeremy

Francesa said that Beckett is like Bob Gibson in the postseason. Well I guess we all see tonight.

  24. vin

There’s no way Girardi bats two lefties in a row, eventhough Matsui murders lefties. Joe is too by the book. Also, Robby is in a good groove now, no need to mess with that by taking him out of the 7th hole. As Cano goes, so goes the Yankees:

“it’s spelled francesa and i agree with him re: the gossage/joba comparison….i know he is the hate du jour but he has better yankee instincts and knowledge than most…especially in here.”

    No.

  26. Andrew GTLU Bronze Medalist

Are you sure he didn’t call him “The Great Back Ache”? Mike’s accent might be hard to decipher.

  27. fox mulder

game five won’t be necessary: Twins win in four.

  28. betsy

GLove, it’s really hard to tell that this guy is a Yankee fan…..I try hard to listen to Kay in my office, but 1050 comes in really terribly so sometimes I just give up on put Mike on. He should move with Pete to Boston because, I swear, the guy is obsessed with the Sox. I respect Beckett too, enormously, but that kind of stuff is hard to take.

  29. Jeremy

    sorry- francesa

  30. NYY626

    I’m batting 1000 – SS
    Damon – LF
    Tex – 1B
    2 RBI’s! – 3B
    Hitdeki – DH
    Swish – RF
    Cano – 2B
    Melky – CF
    Hip Hip, Oh wait…C

  31. Jeremy

    fox mulder
Let me guess…Red Sox Troll ? I think you should worry about the Red Sox and not the Yankee vs. Twins series.

  32. mick

Francesa is an old school Yankee fan who has been hurt beyond belief by recent Yank failures esp. 2004.

That was cataclysmic to him and he now cowers in fear of another Yankee failure.

He is from the old school that Yankee haters loath. The one where we are entitled to win , the ultimate frontrunner.

He can’t bear to lose and is just bracing himself against future failure. JMO.

  33. Mike

Didn’t Beckett have cracked ribs last October but pitched through it?

  34. G. Love

    betsy,

It’s just crazy. You go back 5-10 years and he was Mr. Yankee. He was constantly reminiscing about Yankee greats and he was a huge Jeter fan who know he seems to begrudgingly compliment.

Either it’s for ratings or the Stein’s or Cashman had a run in with him over something and his ego couldn’t handle it.

  35. Rick D.

    mick,

Bingo. Like a lot of Yankee fans… he is suffering from post 2004-syndrome. He has no idea how to handle the Sox winning 2 WS while we have had playoff failure for the past 5 years. Thus, he is cynical and needs to see it to believe it.

If we win a WS this year, his tune will change rather quickly.

  36. Striker

Yet people are so eager to hear his opinion, they tune in to 1:05 everyday because they want to hear what he has to say and his reaction to a game.

Easy to see where he got his ego from. People feel he needs to validate their opinions and people get angry when he doesn’t and has a different opinion.

    We feed his ego.

    g. love

he is a talk show host #1, do you think people would listen if he were boring, god forbid the “b” word.

he is a yankee fan. old school style, back to the 60’s and esp. before when they won every year.

like most yank fans of that era, he still expects to win every year and can’t bear to lose.

better to have post-2004 syndrome than post 1918 syndrome?

it’s time we got over it and this year is the time.

  45. benfica356

going really swell. Im doing good in school right now and seeing the yankees winning is making me even happier. Hows everything with you erica?

Mike started to really become anti Yankee after Torre left. I think that was a big part of it
