Tex: I thought it was a double

Posted by: Sam Borden - Posted in Misc on Oct 09, 2009 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

Mark Teixeira didn’t think he’d won the game when he swung his bat. He thought he’d hit a double because there was “so much topspin” on the ball. He was almost right – the ball slammed off the top of the wall and hopped up into the stands. An inch or two lower and it comes back into the field and he’s probably on second.

Instead he got a pie.

Teixiera was asked about what it’s been like hitting in the same lineup as A-Rod and he said, “We’ve had a great relationship all year. … Alex is fun to hit with. I’m getting a lot of pitches to hit … and we just seem to work well together.”

I think tonight in particular everyone would agree with that last part.

Its important to remember that Tex’s season got infinitely better when A-Rod came back. These two guys are a great match

Good game. Too bad the SEATS behind home plate are still empty. The scream are devoid of life in comparison to other stadiums too. What a saaad state.

  5. vin October 9th, 2009 at 11:03 pm

Who cares if Tex would’ve only gotten a double? Alex would’ve driven him in anyway. :)

Nick…same here, but I will proudly wear mine with the big yellow jacket on it.

I think the improvement in Tex’s season, statistically, was finite. :)

This was such a great game. I love this team.

Geoff, you’re right about the Legends seats. It’s unbelievable that they are priced so high that they’re empty for playoff games.

  12. The Ghost October 9th, 2009 at 11:05 pm

Erica, they played together for a bit in Texas, so I bet that Arod was a big factor between his decision between NY and Boston. Good thing Big Papi had a bad year in 2008.

I’ll continue to say, if he has a big postseason & we win the WS, I’ll watch all of Kate Hudson’s movies. Everyone of them. :x

With all of these calls that hurt Boston (last night and knowing that they want no part of the Yankees right now), I smell an umpiring conspracy. The umpires and MLB hate the Red Sox. They were embarrassed by the Boston (Mitchell) Report.

    Classic…just classic game.

about 40% of the posts tonight were made by chicken littles that have no business having a team as good as the yanks to cheer for…bunch of pansies.

yankees are awesome. have faith. they don’t owe you anything. appreciate that they win alot of games and enjoy the ride.

Great win. Marte sucked. Not sure why he is on the roster. Couldn’t get either one of the two leftys out

  22. Vader October 9th, 2009 at 11:07 pm

If anyone complians about the blown call…come on, compian about base loaded no outs and not scoring…thats something to complain about.

Sort of goes against the media reports that they didn’t get along in Texas, doesn’t it?

I forgot they were teammates there. I confess, I pay almost no attention to baseball played by any other team than the Yankees.

You are probably right. I can see wanting to recapture some of that magic

  26. m October 9th, 2009 at 11:07 pm

Was there anyone left on the bench? Besides the backup catcher?

Gardenhire might have plated a run if a speedier guy was at 2nd instead of Mauer.

  27. Jeremy October 9th, 2009 at 11:08 pm

That was a great game !

2nd best game I’ve ever watched behind 2003 ALCS Game 7!

    Thank you New York Yankees!

I’m with Erica on that one–it’s kind of meh. But, Nine is coming out in December and that will definitely make up for Raising Helen and then some. Can’t wait!!

I agree with Geoff and rb….It is so sad to see empty seats @ Yankees stadium especially during the playoffs. You would think they would want a full house but then again $$$ talks. I hope that they reconsider the prices for next season.

  34. Pat M. October 9th, 2009 at 11:10 pm

Tonight is the type of game Championship clubs win……Certainly was a barn burner…..For all those who thought that the Twins were an easy draw, maybe you see things a tad differently now…..It’s going to be a major task come Sunday….Need to jump on Pavano early and take the Hankies out of the game….

  35. pat October 9th, 2009 at 11:10 pm

    Brandon

With the face time they are giving her, TBS will probably run a Kate marathon after the WS so you can save on rental fees.

  36. The Ghost October 9th, 2009 at 11:11 pm

m, that was probably the one player on his roster he couldn’t pinch run for, ironic huh, not being able to pinch run for your catcher in extra innings? I always thought it was a major handicap when your best hitter is your catcher.

  37. A-Rod = no longer mental in the playoffs October 9th, 2009 at 11:11 pm

I hope tonight will put to rest all those silly complaints about the new Stadium being a copy, a fraud, a sellout, too small, a little league park, ETC ETC. It’s the team people. It’s the Yankees. It’s the fans. Yankee Stadium is where the Yankees play… that’s where the scene was tonight. Yankee Stadium. And the magic? Well, that was there too, because like other teams in the past this version of the Yanks have a tremendous team and play in front of a great crowd. That was classic postseason baseball right there.

  38. vtyankeefan-the original!! October 9th, 2009 at 11:13 pm

Going back to the previous thread, the Twins really can’t gripe because despite the missed call they had bases loaded with no one out and couldn’t get a run home.

Yes, the ghosts have crossed the streets!

    Hey Guiseppe Franco,

I thought we didn’t need Mark Teixeira?

  41. RyanW October 10th, 2009 at 12:17 am

That is because in ever other park that is a double.

  42. Smacketh Downeth October 10th, 2009 at 7:30 am

Oh, so now NYS is a bandbox to RF AND LF? Take a hike, troll, and go whine where someone actually cares. Back to the Fens, Ryan…
