The sounds of victory

Here’s some audio from the clubhouse and postgame, starting with the manager. I think, near the end, you may be able to hear the cavalry of players that went looking for Jorge Posada in a back room and soaked him with Champagne. Keep checking the post for updates as I add more.

UPDATE, 12:10 a.m.: Here’s CC. As you listen, try to imagine him with blue goggles sitting on top of his head.

UPDATE, 12:14 a.m.: Here’s Posada, standing with a crowd of reporters around him right in the middle of the tiny hallway that leads into the clubhouse. His shirt was still soaked.

UPDATE, 12:17 a.m.: And finally, here’s the Captain. He starts by talking about that crazy play in the eighth where the Yanks caught Nick Punto too far off third base.

“I think we should go out to SoCal and live with PAT M for a few months (spring training sounds about right), eat his food, drink his liquor and wine, drive his cars, use his swimming pool and steam room, use his credit cards, get friendly with his pretty little French maids….”

    gb7-

you know , that’s an absolutely great idea. plus he’s got a cabin in the mountains.

we’ll buy some surfboards and hit the beaches. go skiing.

i can’t think of a better way to celebrate #27

( i think the statute of limitations has run out since when i lived out there in the late 60’s so i should be ok )

    ————————————————————

I think PAT will buy us some state of the art surfboards. He’s a sucker…..errrr….good guy.

I would suggest we go out a play a few rounds at Pebble Beach, but, after he spends all of that money on us, I’d hate to get blamed for screwing up his golf game because he was watching me. He couldn’t duplicate my skills.

  14. Carl October 12th, 2009 at 12:18 am

The boss will be in the house hopefully :)

  15. Go Go Godzilla October 12th, 2009 at 12:20 am

I gotta say this blog has been 1000 times better these days. Pete did a good job of getting us info, fast, but you guys do it better and with out the condescending attitude. Thanks for the great work!

  16. Abdababdaserser October 12th, 2009 at 12:22 am

The players in Colorado look like they are frozen. Playing in that cold air can’t be easy. I bet those doctored humidor balls are hard as rocks.

  17. 100 pitches of fun... October 12th, 2009 at 12:27 am

It was so funny after the game they showed Nathan taking some dirt from the mound. For some reason I don’t think that moment and dirt is as special as when Mo and the players were taking it from the old YS. lol

  18. Yanks_Fan October 12th, 2009 at 12:28 am

Do you think that now, for the next matchup against the Angels, we might see Gardner becoming the everyday CFer and bringing his speed to the game from the beginning?

  19. Zach in Port Jeff (3 down, 8 to go) October 12th, 2009 at 12:30 am

I’d like to see Gardner get some decent playing time against LA…but he’s also a great weapon to have as a pinch runner.

Just have to teach to him to freeze until the ball leaves the infield.

  20. Jonathan October 12th, 2009 at 12:33 am

I can’t say enough how fantastic your coverage has been this postseason so far! thank you guys so much

  21. zmaster October 12th, 2009 at 12:34 am

the coverage u guys r providing is awesome!!!

  22. Tarzan October 12th, 2009 at 12:35 am

You can see smoke coming out of the players’ mouth in Colorado

  23. Will October 12th, 2009 at 12:37 am

The 3-headed monster of Chad/Sam/Pete is so much better than Pete.

No snarky comments or unfunny jokes, or obsession about players like Giambi etc…. just top notch reporting.

  24. Brandon Awesome (BECAUSE I'M AWESOME!) October 12th, 2009 at 12:40 am

Chad/Sam you’re doing a great job, srsly if your sucking up to us it’s working. :D

  25. 100 pitches of fun... October 12th, 2009 at 12:41 am

I highly doubt that Gardner starts in CF. Since Girardi wants to use him only as the late inning pinch runner. I would like to see him start, it’s not like Melky is doing anything at the plate.

  26. G. Love October 12th, 2009 at 12:42 am

I’m just happy Pavano pitched well. That increases the odds he’ll be a Red Sox or Mets player next season and then when the checky clears, he’ll revert to the Carl we all know and love.

This was a great series and I’m excited for the Angels. You want to beat the best and I want to see Scioscia lose against us.

There was part of me that wanted to beat up the Red Sox to make up for 2004, but it wouldn’t make up for ’04.

What’s going to make up for 2004 is seeing that team realize they won with a roided up Manny Ramirez and without him in the lineup, they are not the team that won 2 W.S. titles. Replacing him is next to impossible.

As for us, this is going to be a great series and Friday can’t get here soon enough.

  27. The Ghost October 12th, 2009 at 12:45 am

Not going to happen. Girardi needs Melky’s arm in center to keep the Angel’s runners honest and he needs Gardner’s wheels on the bench for late inning pinch running for Posada/Matsui.

  28. Torro October 12th, 2009 at 12:46 am

    Yanks and Giants win

Pats and Sox lose late and blow big leads

    Great day today

  29. pat October 12th, 2009 at 12:49 am

Good quote of Alex’s mindset now-

“I knew I couldn’t change all the 0 for 4′s and 0 for 5′s,” A-Rod said, “and all the guys I left on base, I knew I couldn’t change that, so, you know, I am content right now, both on and off the field. And I also knew that I was 34, not 44, and I have an opportunity to do things right both on and off the field.”

    ——————————

I think he would of got a start if Guzman made the team. But now Gardner is kind of more important in the late innings.

  32. Brandon Awesome (BECAUSE I'M AWESOME!) October 12th, 2009 at 12:56 am

4 time, let the record show I vouched for Carlos Gonzalez, HARD.

  33. Counts October 12th, 2009 at 12:56 am

Bruney NEEDS to be on the ALCS roster. He pitched well in September and deserves it. We could use another power arm to shorten the game.

  34. 100 pitches of fun... October 12th, 2009 at 12:56 am

I really hope that the Phillies have a save situation in the 8th and 9th innings. I want to see Lidge pitch..that would be fun.

  35. Dave October 12th, 2009 at 12:58 am

    Wang for Carlos Gonzalez?

    ————————————————————

I’m betting that Gardner gets a start in NY. Cabrera’s sort stalled out right now, but, Gardner might get game #2 if Cabrera doesn’t hit in game #1. Damon, Teixeira, Matsui and Cano need to start clicking.

  37. 7 UP October 12th, 2009 at 12:59 am

They bring in Madson in the 7th inning?

I guess Lidge is the closer again? :?

And who pitches the 8th? Bastardo? Jaime Moyer?

  38. 100 pitches of fun... October 12th, 2009 at 1:05 am

    And who pitches the 8th?
    —————–
    Pedro lol

  39. Abdababdaserser October 12th, 2009 at 1:06 am

I thought Moyer was out – read something about Moyer getting surgery.

  40. A-Rod = no longer mental in the playoffs October 12th, 2009 at 1:12 am

Alex was tired of everyone saying Albert Pujols is the best player in baseball. He’s not. It’s Alex Rodriguez, people. He’s the best player of this generation. And he’s finally playing up to his capabilities in the playoffs. If he can keep this up in the future, along with Tex, and all our young pitchers…. wow….. it’s a good time to be a Yankee fan. I love this team. No one is stopping them this year. This season is about bucking trends. Next demons to overcome? Angels stadium. Just another obstacle for this team that I believe they will overcome. They’re just too talented.

  41. Big G and Springsteen October 12th, 2009 at 1:16 am

Pitcher’s spot due up in the 9th… expect the Big G to get the call off the bench.

  42. XLJ October 12th, 2009 at 1:26 am

A-Rod really did carry the offense this series. I know some people get on Swish for his rightfield play but he made two really smart plays in right this series.

  43. Chuey October 12th, 2009 at 1:28 am

    just got me thinking…hmm
in recent history, the yankees have been involved in the last game at a stadium 3 times and closed it of with a win
    fulton county stadium,
    yankee stadium
    minnesota’s homer dome
    not bad i say

  44. Jeterhughesjoba October 12th, 2009 at 1:40 am

why didnt girardi bring in mo After hughes gave up the double?

  45. pssst October 12th, 2009 at 1:41 am

I though Pete knocked the me First Juvenile need for attention out! Just post we can see nitwit!!
How much attention do you need?

  46. JeterJobaCanoFanForever, enough said October 12th, 2009 at 2:02 am

Fans, do you think Girardi will continue with Joba in the 7th, Phil in the 8th and Mo, 9th in the Angels series? Robertson, Ace and others need some time too, to prepare for the WS. But, I guess it is important to beat the Angels first and then worry about the pen for the WS.

What a team, I just love them. They can beat anyone.

  47. Anthony October 12th, 2009 at 10:43 am

Like jeter said play the games man. Whatever happened in the past doesnt mean a thing. Play the games. ANGELS VS YANKEES – GET READY FOR AN AMAZING SERIES !!!
