Why did MLB push the start times back yet again? For those of us that have to travel, its a PITA -- I was hoping for an afternoon game on Saturday.

That being said, I think the Yankees should stick to their lineup this year -- not a lot of need to go looking in the free agent market (perhaps pitching?), and they should definitely sign up Andy Pettit, Damon and Matsui for next year, with incentives for performance.

Just my two cents.

I agree starting a game at 4:13 makes no sense. All Yankees games should be put in prime time to generate the most ratings and accomodate schedules for people who work. Sometimes I shake my head at Selig the mad scientist. And one wonders why baseball is in decline ??!?

"Look at all the projected world series winners. Only 3 teams represented. Well, were represented."

Mel, we got 16/24 votes. Not too shabby!

m -

So, let me get this straight. No one picked the Angels or the Dodgers to win the WS at that point in time when they made those predictions. And yet now the Yankees turned into underdogs because the Angels, overnight, have become the team of destiny, and the Dodgers are led by a genius. Okay.

Whatever. Sigh.

I'd rather be the underdog.

It's like Mad Men, Erica. Only not in the 60s and men in suits and offices. And with leather, harleys and fights.

Okay, so not like Mad Men come to think of it.

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/13/sports/baseball/13pabelbon.html?_r=1&ref=baseball

"After dispatching the Red Sox with atypical ease, the Angels will have to contend with the game’s undisputed juggernaut. The Yankees’ lineup has no weaknesses, but it is particularly proficient at clubbing home runs. The Yankees’ 244 regular-season long balls put them 20 ahead of the second-place Texas Rangers.

Keeping the Yankees’ hitters in the park requires a pitching staff with strong ground-ball tendencies.

The Colorado Rockies, whose rotation of sinkerballers mitigates the effect of their high-altitude home park, allowed flies on only 33 percent of batted balls. If they had wound up facing the Yankees in the World Series, they could have had some success at preventing power-fueled innings (like the 9th and 11th in Game 2, when home runs by Alex Rodriguez and Mark Teixeira propelled the Yankees to a comeback victory against the Minnesota Twins).

But the Angels’ fly-ball rate of 40 percent was the sixth highest in the majors. Starter Jered Weaver, who allowed more than half of his batted balls in the air, could have a particularly rough time. If the Angels’ pitchers cannot adapt their approach to counter the slugging strength of their next opponents, they will probably find themselves sent home every bit as quickly as the Red Sox were in the first round."
=======

It is curious that Kazmir, a lefty, isn't starting Game 2. His troubles at Fenway on Sunday aren't all that relevant, considering the Green Monster turns RHB into Hercules.

According the the Red Sox, Weaver's location was stunning against them. Of course, we have an entirely more powerful and lefty-laden lineup, and that game he pitched wasn't on the road.

"if he goes game 4 on tues it will be 4 days rest

game 7 will be on normal 5 days rest
"

That's in reference to days he's not pitching. If it were the regular season, for example:
M - pitches - CC
T - off - AJ
W - off - Andy
R - off - Joba
F - off - Gaudin
S - pitches

That's the normal 4 days of rest. 5 days of rest would be if there was an off day in there somewhere and no one got skipped. Between starts it's actually 5 days, but that's not how its stated.
