Donnie B. was a favorite of mine during his playing days. More importantly, he is a consummate gentleman. As far as a potential manager, I have seen very little, if anything, to suggest he would be a good manager. As a batting coach, he was no KLong, certainly based on the effusive comments from the players about Kevin and the absence of same as to Donnie. As to a bench coach....Torre never raved about the sound counsel that Donnie provided...but that may just be Torre. So...who really knows. If he gets a gig, it will be based upon his rep as a player, and comments from his contemporaries that he really is a nice guy and probably would be able to handle players well. Nonetheless, I certainly wish him well...as long as the managerial gig will not result in Pinstripe adornment.

Good for Don I hope he gets the Indians managerial job. Anything that takes him away from that evil Joe Torre is a good move.

"If the Yankees dont win the WS this year I wonder if theres any chance they’ll dump Girardi and make a run at Donnie."

No. The same people in management and ownership who selected Girardi over Mattingly two years ago are still in power. There's no way they'd admit to making a mistake. Cashman will have to go, too, if Mattingly is to become the manager. I obviously preferred Mattingly over Girardi but it was mostly based on emotions. When the choice was made, I was a little relieved in that I thought Girardi was probably more qualified. But then again, how much of a managerial genius does it take to win a division when you sign the three top free agents over the winter? I think Mattingly -- or Torre -- could have won 100 games with these guys. Winning the World Series is another story. Girardi is doing wonders compared to the way things went in the 2004 -- 2006 post seasons. If the Yanks win tonight he'll be a genius again.

Wherever he ends up, you can rest assured the team won't make the World Series.

Mattingly isn't in line for the Dodgers job. That would require Torre to hang it up and I think everyone thinks Torre will renegotiate and try to get another big bucks contact.

Mattingly has to take a job if it's offered. With Torre's departure not being a given and the fact that Girardi managed the Yankees to lofty heights this season, his 2 most preferred options aren't looking open any time soon.

I don't think the Mets would hire him either. I think they are not going to go the ex-Yankee route again.

It was an embarrassment to them having Willie get a standing O at the old stadium last season when he made his appearance.

Cleveland isn't a great situation. It's a town that is severely struck by the recession and the ownership doesn't want to spend because the community can't spend.

It's a shame what Cleveland turned into in the past few years.

I can't see Valentine there, I see him sitting out, working on ESPN and waiting for the Mets job to be handed back to him before mid season next year.

The fans want Bobby V back there and the Wilpons are going to realize in order to make money as owner of the Mets they are going to have to give their fans exactly what they want.

Melky, Swish, Cano, and Tex better produce tonight. I am sick of their pathetic approach at the plate. They need to have respectable at bats.

Anyone who thinks Torre will actually retire after next year is deluding themselves. he can't leave behind the attention, adulation and $$$. Mattingly will be stuck as a batting coach again.

Who are we kidding? This will be Joe's lineup:

SS Ransom
LF Ransom
1B Ransom
3B Ransom
C Molina
DH Molina
2B Ransom
RF Ransom
CF Ransom

As you can see Ransom is so athletic he can play anywhere at anytime.
Plus with lefty Kazmir pitching it makes even more sense.
