G. Love,

"Melky had an abysmal series until tonight. It wasn’t your faith in him that got him those hits, it’s the law of averages. He has good numbers against Kazmir.

Spare us your excellent acumen on how incredible he is since up until tonight he was a black hole in the lineup along with Cano, Tex and Swisher and Damon to an extent."

Melky was 1 for 2 in Game 1 with 2 walks and a run. In Game 2, he was 2 for 6. That is not abysmal. He hit .375 with a .500 OBP in the first 2 games. Watch the games, they have been really good.

"How this is still Garnder vs. Melky is beyond me since most of the people on the blog wanted gardner in for swisher and most of us were saying you can’t sit Melky as he has good numbers vs. Kazmir.

Why don’t you get over your personal obsessions with certain players and just root for the team, the team that Melky and Gardner both happen to be a part of?"

Swisher hasn't done a good job in the playoffs, but he had a great season at the plate and had a much better chance to be productive than Gardner. It's not even close.

It's not about personal obsessions. Gardner was a backup all year. He isn't going to replace Swisher because of a few bad games at the plate.

m,

I was the one who made the point that Gardner's only 26, so I'm not really sure what you're referring to.

No one's building one up at the expense of the other. The fact is, Melky is a better baseball player.

I would say, your rendering of the situation is based far more on emotion than mine, no?

You are sick of people putting down Gardner, yet you see nothing out of balance that he has been held up as some kind of heroic baseball player, who "deserves" to start over Cabrera? Which we hear on here all the time?

He hasn't earned that with his play, and there is every indication that he may not even be able to ever hit major league pitching consistently.

People are not suggesting Melky be replaced by Carl Crawford, here - they're getting indignant that he HASN'T been replaced by someone who can't even hit, but who is being conceived of as some sort of heroic Carl Crawford double.

So, if anyone's been inaccurately analyzed by the Yankee fan - it's Brett Gardner - and they have wildly erred on the side of the positive, in his case.

Teixeira had 2 strikeouts tonight, but I thought he had some good at bats early and helped to work Kazmir out of the game. He just missed a home run a couple times. Hopefully he gets going good because the offense is so much more dangerous when he's hitting like he should.

Pittsburgh has dropped future HOF closer Craig Hanson from their 40 man roster. Somebody will pick him up in the Rule 5 Draft. Maybe the Gammons....errr....Boston Red Sox will realze their error and get him back.
