Interesting – I was part of the pre-on-sale and at 10:01 the system kept telling me there were no seats available – that was for any day, 1 or 2 seats at any price….and everyone I talked to told me they got the same response from the system….amazing they had no tickets available for season ticket holders, but there are some available for others….hmmmmmmm….makes ya wonder…..
My friend is a partial ticket holder as well and he couldnt find a single ticket. Not really sure how there are more available for people. Between the tickets allocated for players, media, and full season holders, there has to be only a few hundred left for tomorrows sale.
I don’t think this public onsale is going to have much to offer people, because the partial plan presale I did last week got me absolutely nothing. And I kept at it for quite a while, searching all 4 potential home games for 1 or 2 tickets, not necessarily together. So, don’t get your hopes up for tomorrow morning, peeps. StubHub is the last resort.
C’mon, people.
The Yanks will be fine. All the panicking is just crazy. They got a big wakeup call yesterday and they’ve overcome obstacles all season long.
Tonight will be no different because CC will go out there and do his thing.
CHILL OUT and enjoy this team. They will bounce back. The big story tomorrow will be the Yanks on the verge of going back to the WS.
angels-phillies?
“If they blow this series, and Game 3 turns out to be the tipping point, he is on the hot seat”
SJ44: if this does turn out to be true, it will be completely retarded nontheless. Girardi is the man for this job and has proven it from the time he’s taken over.
if Tex and/or the bottom of this lineup was able to hit the broad side of a barn, we wouldn’t be having this conversation. As it stands, Girardi is the de facto scapegoat. Be thankful we have a manager who is trying to win every post-season game and is aggressive, instead of the one who was asleep at the wheel and sipping green tea from 2002-2007
GF, panic is the name of the game for a lot of the people posting here. Being calm and accepting the cliche that you can’t win them all is not in the DNA of a lot of the fans unfortunately. I can’t imagine what this board would have looked like in past postseasons when the team fell behind in series; people are freaking out bigtime and the Yankees still have the series lead and worst case scenario will be tied 2-2 after tonight.
This is bad Karma.
Has there been any pitching changes yet today?
I respect SJ and his opinions but he’s dead wrong about Girardi no matter what happens the rest of the series.
He’s going nowhere.
Giuseppe,
I too respect SJ’s additions on here but I agree that Girardi is going nowhere…primarily because I believe that we are going to the World Series.
GF, I do think it’s ridiculous that people were proclaiming the series over after yesterday. I know the Yankees are tough and resilient – and they have gotten seriously good pitching over the course of 6 post-season games. That said, I do think Joe is a liability…and they do need to start hitting.
I think Andy just threw over to first again.
Tickets are held during the presales. This is so the public has a fair shot at tickets.. If you are a full season ticket holder, you have your guaranteed tickets anyway.
And Joe has done a TERRIBLE job of managing during the Postseason. We are lucky our boys have picked him up but his mistakes are plenty and they finally caught up to us last night. From Taking Andy out too early in Game 3 in MIN, to last night’s many debacles. If it’s not for Alex and Derek, we could be down 2-1 in this series. His trust and use of Joba is laughable. Here is a guy who constantly struggled in the 1st inning when he started this season.. So lets throw him out there in an important spot because god forbid Andy finishes an inning. So much for trusting Robertson more, who has done EVERYTHING right. Then he wastes BOTH left handers in the pen in 1 INNING!! Can anybody smarter than me maybe explain that logic? Then taking Damon out for no reason.. If that ball is hit deep, the Angels were scoring no matter what. I’ve never seen a pen emptied so quickly. But it’s OK in Joe’s mind because he has Gaudin.. Well now we have CC on short rest with pretty much no pen backing him up and Joey might have just managed us out of the playoffs.
It’s very hard to screw up managing a 200 million dollar team that won 103 games but Maniac Joe did it. Another brilliant move was leaving Eric off the team in favor of Guzman.. Why do we need 2 “pinch runners”? Wouldn’t someone who could possible swing the bat been the better choice.. Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t that WHY Cashman went out and made that deal, so we would have a little pop off the bench? When you take star players out in the 8th inning, you need a bench that has more than Guzman, Molina and Cervelli.
Joe hasn’t managed us anywhere near out of the playoffs.
The players failed to execute. Plain and simple. Up and down the board there was a systemic failure to execute (Rivera, Robertson, Hughes, and the three 4 dudes that hit solo HR yesterday get a pass).
He had one real headscratcher and that was lifting Robertson for Aceves.
Scoscia got a little testy with the press last night when they asked him if he went into last night considering the game a “must win”. He said that since they weren’t down 3 games to 0, there was no must win involved!
I think of this the same way. Tonight is not a must win. It will be great to win though!
I still like the thought that the Yankees could lose the next two (not that they will!) and still get to go home to the Stadium.
“Well now we have CC on short rest with pretty much no pen backing him up and Joey might have just managed us out of the playoffs.”
I think the entire pen is available considering they didn’t exactly have many guys get overextended yesterday. Hughes threw the most out of the bullpen but they would definitely use him again tonight if the situation dictated it. Rivera, Robertson, Joba, Coke are all also available. CC gets into the 7th and things are still set up in the Yankees’ favor.
Francesa needs to be reminded that Hughes did do his job. When was the last he pitched 3 innings? Tough to ask a pitcher that’s mainly been a 1 inning turned get me 1 maybe 2 outs postseason pitcher, to pitch 3 innings without tiring.
I am a partial ticket holder as well and we were given a chance to purchase WS tickets. After a good hour I through my hands up and said no mas. If you want to take a chance and have nerves of steel, go to the World Series, meaning if it is in the Bronx and wait for the singing of the national anthem and then try to get tickets from those friendly scappers who somehow always have tickets. They might want to dump them at that point instead of eating them. If that doesn’t work go to a one of the neighborhood bars and watch the game. The Yanks once again are giving out nada.
Oh great I forgot that now it’s 1 PM so all the people will be whipped up into a panicked frenzy by the radio guy that still tries to pass himself off as a Yankees fan yet never can find an opportunity to ever say anything positive about the team, and criticizes players and the organization and the team at every chance given.
“Joe hasn’t managed us anywhere near out of the playoffs.”
mel, how many times did we hear that we were never going to make it to the postseason because of things that Joe did – or didn’t do? That went on with every Yankee loss during the season! There are people who are not built to withstand loss and panic when it happens. So this is no different. JMO
Wow, Trevor – is Mike getting on Phil? Unbelievable.
M, disagree. Joe has managed to the point where the lineup is ridiculously weak….enough with the pinch runners.
“Then he wastes BOTH left handers in the pen in 1 INNING!! Can anybody smarter than me maybe explain that logic?”
I would never claim to be smarter than Jon Locke, but I would assume Joe’s reasoning in that situation was not to get Marte back up after he closed out the 7th inning.
“Well now we have CC on short rest with pretty much no pen backing him up”
This is the silver lining to his style of hyper-management, none of our relievers threw 20 pitches. Plus, Joba & Aceves only combined to throw 17 pitches–so we should be able to count on them. Right?
Tonight IS a must win.. Just because we are up 2-1 doesn’t make the game any less important. You do not want them tying this series, I don’t care where Games 6 & 7 are. You guys act like we never lost a GM 6 and 7 at home. Every playoff game is important but this one is 5x more important because of the mental factor. Up 3-1, these guys can play loose on Thurs Night and go for the kill.. Tied 2-2, the pressure now builds
and that Game 5 will be very tough to win with AJ on the road vs Lackey. No matter which way you look at it, being up 2-0 to possibly being tied 2-2 by midnight is NOT GOOD!
This is good for the Yankees see how it feels to lose a game because them as a team not anyone, else.No timely hits, and Joe the over manager, lost this game.
I hope they had flashes of this series slipping away, and get their collective act together.
The Angels can’t win this series at home, but do the Yankees want to give them momentum coming into Yankee stadium?
betsy,
I’m not sure if you know this or not, but other teams do the same thing. They replace guys who have better wheels than matsui.
Now, maybe Girardi’s guilty of having too much faith. I’d like to see relievers pitch full innings (because they can) and others would like him to slow down with the substitutions, but Girardi has faith that his players can come through. But maybe he has too much faith.
apparently the mlb is looking into this “spit” thing
Jon, I guess we’ll just agree to disagree on the definition of a “must win”.

TK- That Marte point does make a little bit of sense.. But very unusual to say the least.
And I don’t speak for the majority here but of course being are going to overreact to a loss.. Especially one like last night. If Robertson had given up a HR, you wouldn’t be hearing a peep out of me. It’s not that we lost the game, it’s the way we lost the game and just the general sickening feeling I had last night watching it unfold.
mel, I’m with you on the pinch runners. They’re there for a reason, and you certainly use them in tight games when your team isn’t bringing in a lot of risp!
The pitch-out with Gardner was just plum back luck for us.
They’re not winning the next 2 in Anaheim. Highly doubtful.
This series is coming back to NY with either the Yankees up 3-2 or down 3-2.
I said after game 2 they only need to win 1 game out there. They’re 0-1 so far. They need to get this one tonight. Why? I don’t like Pettitte in game 6 especially if they’re down 3-2. He’s not a good match-up against the Angel lineup. And they’ve starting Pettitte on the road for a reason. Fly ball pitcher at YS is not a good fit.
Rish, I watched it once and saw the spit go to the side of the ball!
Oh well.
Flashpoints up
I’m as frustrated as anyone with yesterday’s loss, but I don’t think the amount of vitriol towards Girardi is warranted. The only move I really disagreed with is taking Robertson out.
To me, Pettitte missed his spot to Vlad. That’s Andy’s mistake. No one could get runners home from 3rd w/ less than 2 out. That’s Swish/Robbie/Melky’s mistake. Gardner chose the wrong pitch to go on. That’s Brett’s mistake.
Plenty of miscues in the game yesterday, but with all of that, the team is still up 2-1 and the pitching has been fantastic (overall) so far. I have great confidence that Tex will get a bit hit and break out, Alex will keep hitting like crazy and someone at the bottom of the lineup will do SOMETHING.
If Kazmir wasn’t throwing today, I’d like to see Melky sit for Gardner, but JoeG won’t do that. No problem, though. They’ve seen Kazmir plenty and can get to him. I predict a big win today. Go Yanks!!
A manager’s trip to the mound, trips up the George Steinbrenner’s traveling All Stars.
This is up on bostondirtdogs site, along with Mo being accused of throwing a spitball.
This Sickens me to read!!
Rishi – leave it to the Post to make a ‘story’ out of nothing. Really? Mariano is a ‘cheater’? So stupid…
I would imagine that someone within the Angels org. make a complaint and that MLB has an obligation to investigate, no matter how ridiculous the charge.
But now, it allows the haters to say “SEE?!?! He’s been cheating for 15 years! No one is that good!”
I didn’t love taking Robertson out in that spot obviously but maybe Joe was thinking about tonight (it’s not like he was taking him out of some jam). Chances might be that he needs the best strikeout pitcher in the pen to get out of a jam with a big k. There were 2 outs and nobody on and Ace isn’t exactly a bum, he’s been big all year. Robertson had that elbow issue so why not keep some bullets in case he’s needed 24 hours later? Does anyone remember him being used back to back the 2nd half of the season, I don’t.
MikeBoston:
I get what you’re saying, but I would counter that with this:
If he has confidence in Robertson to get Kendrick, then he should believe he can get him with a minimal amount of pitches. Robertson get out of a bases loaded, no out jam without expending 30 or 40 pitches. He had 2 out, 0 on. Even if he throws 10 pitches to Kendrick, that’s not exactly blowing out Robertson’s arm.
I like Aceves, but I don’t like him coming in during an inning. It seems like he is better suited to start an inning. Couple that with Robertson coming up big and I think he should have stayed in.
I know Phil, Robertson’s got great stuff, better than Ace and it didn’t work out the way we wanted, no arguing. It wasn’t like he was bringing him in with anyone one though. I’m wondering if Joe feels that the less the Angels see Robertson’s stuff the better when you’re talking about a long series like this and a pretty unknown guy. You know ‘the less is more’ thing. I’m sure he felt that he could get a little length out of Ace and just 1 out wasn’t much to ask at the time.
I’m not ready to start piling on Joe, he’s helped us get this far…and quite frankly the hitting with RISP has been horrible. I think they were opher yesterday in that category.
MLB: No evidence Rivera threw spitter
the league is circumspect that Rivera actually spit on the ball for a variety of reasons:
1. The spit is coming from far away. There is no attempt by Rivera to hide what he is doing. He is facing toward the outfield, but in the playoffs that leaves him in the direct line of sight of at least three umpires. He is not rubbing the ball up or massaging it in his glove as is often the case when a ball is being doctored.
2. Between the regular season and postseason, Rivera has appeared in 999 games and nothing has ever emerged before linking Rivera to doctoring the ball. He has appeared in 82 postseason games when cameras, eyeballs and opponents are fixed on him constantly, and no evidence of this has previously emerged.
They should give out tickets based on who’s actually going to show up and get into the game. After watching yesterday’s game the Yankee Stadium fans seem sparse and quiet.
Two things giradi has to to in order to win the series:
1) duck tape himself to the dug out bench
2) Repeat to himself that “i will not look at scouting reports every 5 seconds.”
So they will have 4 tickets that will sell out at 10:00:01 AM. Big whoop.
Why are they selling WS tickets when Yanks are in the middle to ALCS?? That is disrepect for the Angels, no? What happens, if God forbids, the Angels prevail? Then what? I really do not understand the rush to sell tickets..
Every team sells tix to the World Series before they even get in. They do this with each round of the playoffs too. Where ya been?
