I finally put out my hand and said, “Dave…I’m…” He reluctantly took my hand and said, “I’m not a very friendly person.”

I laughed so hard, and then he laughed. We were great buddies after that.

His curmudgeonly presence had more humanity in it than all the glad-handing types in the flock.

Great, great old newspaper guy. One of a kind and they don’t make them like Dave anymore.

Sounds like a guy that never took himself seriously and could always laugh at himself….as long as nobody else saw it. Kind of like those “Unforgettable Characters” in Reader’s Digest.
