mr franco,

a major side effect is something that is considered over 5-7% of a population that takes a certain drug, immunization, etc. 1 in a million is not a major side effect. i'm assuming you mean it on a scale of severity if you actually contract the disease, but it is not a major side effect of flu shots. the only major side effect of flu shots is fatigue, nausea and soreness at the site of injection

I like Nick Swisher, but I didn’t find this quote very helpful.

“It’s just one of those things where you want to do so well,” Swisher said. “It just hasn’t happened but it’s all right because right now we’re sitting 3-2. I mean we’ve got other guys on the team that are banging, driving in runs, picking us up. It’s all right. We’ll be where we need to get.”

Nick I beg to differ a bit. It’s not alright that a guy on a 26M contract through 2011 isn’t getting his job done. That has nothing to do with the other guys. And despite the efforts of the other guys you ended both rally’s in the last game, the last one to seal the loss. You also didn't get the runners in in a game 3 loss we should have won. I don’t look at that at being all right.

Joe from LI,

Just to make things clear, GBS does not affect young children. It usually affects adults about 30-50.

Children need their vaccinations.

And I also made it clear that GBS is RARE. But people have had major issues with side affects associated with the flu shot, including GBS. It does happen.

I think Pettitte will handle the Angels' hitters tonight. Check out this graphic showing his track record against their lineup.

Laura – I need a valium!

“People that throw the words like “gutless” and “choke” around are the same people that throw around “class”, “clutch” and “great”, without having a clue as to what the words mean or who has it.”

Really? What do you call walking a guy after you have him down 0-2? What do you call putting two guys on base after your team rallies for 6 runs? Was that a clutch pitching performance by AJ?

————————————————————

When you see words like that used by people who’s biggest challenges revolve around deciding what to fix for supper, what wall paper goes with what drapes or whether to buy Craftman tools or Power-Craft tools, it makes you question their common sense.""

Let me recommend 'Stanley'-made tools.

Actually, if he got 1 start it'd be more like 6-7 at bats this series, not 10.

This is obviously in hindsight, but how many at bats would Hinske have gotten this series?

I think he would have gotten a start for Swisher and probably would have taken most of those at bats from Gardner, Hairston, Guzman, and Cervelli. That's at least 10 at bats.

The roster should have had Cervelli OR Guzman on the roster, not both. If Girardi needed the luxury of a 3rd catcher, then he shouldn't have had a 2nd pinch runner on the team. Look at their production so far:
Guzman- 0/1, 1 K, ZERO SB in 2 games
Cervelli- 0/1, 1 K, in 2 games

The Yankees would have been better off w/ a 24 man roster if it had Hinske on it instead of these guys.

http://www.cdc.gov/FLU/about/qa/flushot.htm

"Guillain-Barré syndrome: Normally, about one person per 100,000 people per year will develop Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), an illness characterized by fever, nerve damage, and muscle weakness. In 1976, vaccination with the swine flu vaccine was associated with getting GBS. Several studies have been done to evaluate if other flu vaccines since 1976 were associated with GBS. Only one of the studies showed an association. That study suggested that one person out of 1 million vaccinated persons may be at risk of GBS associated with the vaccine."
