MLB announces World Series schedule
Here’s the game times for the World Series. Times listed are for first-pitch and, obviously, are only “if necessary” for Games 5, 6 and 7.
In summary: Get your caffeine ready.
Wednesday, Oct. 28, Phillies at Yankees, 7:57 p.m.
Thursday, Oct. 29, Phillies at Yankees, 7:57 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 31, Yankees at Phillies, 7:57 p.m.
Sunday, Nov. 1, Yankees at Phillies, 8:20 p.m.
Monday, Nov. 2, Yankees at Phillies, 7:57 p.m.
Wednesday, Nov. 4, Phillies at Yankees, 7:57 p.m.
Thursday, Nov. 5, Phillies at Yankees, 7:57 p.m.
UPDATE, 6:59 p.m.: I meant to include this earlier but didn’t want to do a whole post on it since some of the debates in the thread were getting good. George Steinbrenner issued a statement today which said:
“The Yankees’ enormous will to win, tremendous professionalism and great team spirit, backed by the best, most vocal and supportive fans have propelled us into the World Series. We’re looking forward to our 27th ring.”

You have until first pitch to get me your prediction. Please put my name in the post.
if they get rained out of game 1 would there be any off days between games 1-5?
What is this 7:57pm start times this year?? Reminds me of how prices are $1.99 instead of $2.00 so we think it’s cheaper. In this case, MLB wants to give the illusion games don’t start so late.
i wonder if C.C can start a game on 2 days rest?
SI. SI.
lol
ps….this was meant to be sarcastic…i know CC won’t start on 2 days rest
I tend to agree with Wave’s set up.
What is wrong with starting Gaudin then bringing in Ace at the slightest sign of trouble
———————-
Gaudin hasn’t pitched in 3 weeks, how many pitches do you think he can give them? No more than 50. Aceves has also only pitched a couple of times in the last 3 weeks. He also almost cost them 2 games in this series. You aren’t going to get the Phillies lineup out with mediocre stuff and or pitchers.
Do you think they fly to Philly?
Seems like a lot of work.
Get to the airport… wait to take off…get from the airport to the hotel.
I would think a bus would actually be quicker.
To our discussion on the rotation, if the Phillies go 4 man and Lee is starting game 5, it is not a good idea to have Gaudin against him. The WS is no time to have a giveaway game. I would seriously consider AJ on 3 days for that scenario if he did OK in game 2.
Maybe the Yanks have some inside info and have been guaranteed a stategically placed rain out. A rain out after game 3 or 4 would allow a 3 man on regular rest except, maybe, for CC. But we know he can handle it.
I too hate John the Kruk. He should just go back to living under a bridge and charging people tolls.
Mick
We will most likely be playing 3 games in an NL park. There will probably be quite a bit more pitching changes. I will take Bruney (the pre-injured version) over Marte or keeping Cervelli on the roster. I also think Posada should start all the games, with Molina coming in on double switches or for defense.

That’s exactly the case. A few months ago, MLB announced that the playoff games would start BEFORE 8 PM. Of course they never said HOW MUCH BEFORE 8 PM.
Doesn’t bother me – being in the Pacific time zone has its benefits.
can’t see girardi starting AJ in a game 6 or 7.

Wouldn’t lee pitch 1-4-7 not 1-5-7
I have no problem letting Chaudin start against Blanton. Hopefully we get a rain out of some sort
tarheel
marte has moved ahead of coke, so forget that idea.:)
as long as joe uses molina, even just game 2, then cervelli is coming for the ride.
Heard a rumor Steinbrenner will be at the game Wednesday. Is that true?
Marte’s definitely on the roster.
Hinske over Guzman.
I’d also leave the 3rd catcher off the roster in favor of Bruney or even Mitre.
Kruk can talk up the Phillies offense all day. But pitching wins in October and the Yankees have better pitching and have been pitching better than any playoff club. Good pitching can make any offense look weak. Example : Angels
And Pedro, Blanton, and Hamels can’t shut down the Yankees, and neither can their bullpen.
repost
you can’t plan a rotation hoping it will rain.
these pitchers have to prepare for their starts.
that’s why they announced ahead of time.
Don’t usually do this, but… reposting from the last thread:
Nice, vin (re: starting Gaudin with the Yanks up 4-0). Made me laugh.
Seriously, though, this is the very end of the season. The Yankees were able to not overwork any of the big 3 starters down the stretch and Andy isn’t a fragile flower. If he has to go on 3 days rest this one time, it should be fine. He is a pitcher now, not a thrower. He’s not up there blazing fastballs past anyone, and he’s not relying on particularly nasty stuff. He’s working in and out, up and down, and mixing speeds. If he can’t do that effectively on 3 days rest, I’d be very surprised. And AJ is a fairly young, strong guy. I have no concerns about him going on 3 days. The only concern about AJ is where his head is. And after watching him in a few high-pressure games this year, I think he’s more likely to rise to the occasion than to fall apart. As to CC, you definitely want him available for 3 games, no question. If it gets to game 7, there’s no way you want anyone else starting. The ONLY way he’s available is for him to go on 3 days, twice. There’s a good chance he’s not going to be awesome all 3 times, but if he’s awesome the first time, then good enough the second, you may not even have to worry about the third. Point is, there are all professionals who happen to be pretty well rested and have not been abused at all this year. 3 days rest shouldn’t be that scary.
That said, the results of the first 3 games dictate the plans for the rest. If the Yankees are up 3-0 (probably unlikely) then I have no problem patching a game together with Gaudin starting. And who knows, there may even be rain.

Game 3 at 8 PM ET on Halloween. Genius scheduling by Bud.
Mark-Cant Touch This,
I wrote that in response to a Philly rotation of: Lee, Pedro, Hamels, Blanton in games 1-4. That would put Lee in line for game 5, and Hamels would get the game 7 start.
In this series, however, rainouts would work in Philly’s favor as well. No doubt they are dreading a possible Blanton start as much as we dread Gaudin.
Hey trisha, we agree!
Rain won’t help unless it rains for 2 days straight or for games 6 or 7.
They’ll play on Fri or Tuesday if need be.
did i just hear them say on mlb that yanks are using a 4 man rotation?
“Brian Cashman has taken a lot of hits over the last six years. Now that he’s built the Yankees into a pennant winner again he deserves some credit. Yes, there is still one more hill to climb. But several key decisions on Cashman’s part have shaped the 2009 Yankees:”

“Good points (as you know I love Andy) but what’s different between now and the start of the post-season? Andy had all that experience then, and Girardi didn’t start him.”
wave your hat-
andy missed tha start in early september and scuffled at times finishing the season. he wasn’t horrible , just mediocre except for a big win in the red sox game in his next to last start of the season.
then he threw good starts in the postseason going 2-0 with a 2.37 era.
he closed out two series. he’s the all time wins leader.
we don’t know if burnett choked in the biggest game of his life or if he just had a bad game.
in a bad game. we don’t know that about burnett.
pettitte has more postseason experience and success in the postseason a and burnett is new at it.
right now pettitte is the better pitcher. and while he could have a bad start like burnett could, it’s not going to be because of being overwhelmed by a new experience.
but i wouldn’t start andy before burnett in the second game because he closed out the angels series last night and would be on three days rest twice then.
so i’ve made my decision.
game 1- sabathia 4 days rest
game 2- burnett 4 days rest
game 3- pettitte 4 days rest
game 4-sabathia 3 days rest
game 5- burnett 3 days rest
game 6- pettitte 3 days rest
game 7- sabathia 3 games rest
short leash on burnett in game 5 because it will the next biggest game of his life.
i’m still not sure how he’ll going to handle a close out game or an elimination game.

Hey Christina – glad you enjoyed the game! Looking forward to pics on your blog after you get some needed rest.
Hal S. said in a post game interview that George will be at game 1. The team will be trying to win this one for him.
AJ throwing to Jorge against those lefties, on the road, especially if we are down, is one scary thought.
is that the halloween game?
hey, folks.
Trisha–Here’s my prediction: yankees in 5. They take the first 3, then lose 1, then win the last one.
should have been:
“we don’t know if burnett choked in the biggest game of his life or if he just had a bad game.
if pettitte has a bad game, its just a bad game. we don’t know that about burnett.”
i really cannot see po catching aj.
his breaking stuff in the dirt will eat jorge up.
Burnett did not choke!
He just had a hard time swallowing and his lungs reacted instinctively.
I don’t have anything to add at this time, but I wanted to post again as I pass through CC’s hometown of Vallejo; I probably won’t be this way again before Wednesday.
It’s Yankee country now.
Bronx Jeers I think the best way is to take a train. I’m sure the Yankees can get a private Amtrack train or something to take them to game.
bronx I know they’ve taken the Acela train from time to time. It would seem a lot quicker to take that instead of flying.
I am actually looking forward to seeing George at one of the games in NY. We haven’t seen the old timer in a while, and I bet he gets a big ovation.
Thanks, George (and Hal and Hank)!
they’re taking the train. that’s cool. seems easier than flying, given new york and pa are relatively close.
that was supposed to be a question mark. they’re taking the train?
The Yankees in Penn Station on their way to play a World Series game?
Hey Arod! yo you got a dollar?
Will they be brown bagging some tall boys for the ride?
So many people have written off Bruney. The man was lights out, get’s injured, struggle a bit and now he’s washed up. Even with all that he went through, his stats say he’s better than Marte.
I do get keeping Marte over Bruney because he’s a lefty. Not because he’s a better pitcher or Bruney’s a “headcase”. I also rather have an extra pitcher than an extra catcher. Molina and Posada are good enough for me.
“i really cannot see po catching aj.
his breaking stuff in the dirt will eat jorge up.”
i would start molina again in the first game with burnett simply because they are used to each other.
molina has had his own problems with aj in the dirt.
MLB Network is doing a World Series show. ( don’t know if it’s a repeat)
They give the outfield match-up to Phillies. Infield match-up to Yankees. Pitching match-up is coming up after the commercial.
David Robertson will also be in the studio live.
Trisha–i hope you got my post about the WS…i’ll check back later to see.
Dave Robertson on MLB Network!!
OK randy, my guess is what is was earlier today-
CC
AJ
Andy
Gaudin
CC
AJ
Andy
My one caveat is if Lee pitches game 4 and we are down in the series, they might flip CC and Gaudin’s turns.
robertson on mlb tv right now in a sit down interview .
randy–how does he look?
Robertson is on MLB Network right now.
Question to any computer savy people.
I have a load of pictures from game 6 that I want to upload, but I think its too many for my blog. Is there any site I can use to put the pictures on?
Only thing I can think of is facebook but I cant really link that to my blog obviously…
DRob being interviewed on MLB network now.

i’ll have to think about what i think he’s going to do.

Christina – try flickr, or photobucket (add .com after the name)
randy-
OK. I misunderstood. Mine was what I think Joe will do, although I think I’d do it that way too.
Gotta go but I’ll check back at some point if you want to post a guess at some point on what Joe will do.
I just breezed through the last few threads and am astounded to see the number of people that would pitch AJ one once in a series. Although I shouldn’t be surprised. Why not go the 4 man rotation with Andy on the mound in a possible Game 7?
If Philly is going to throw Lee at us 3 times, then I can see Girardi countering with CC 3 times.
Otherwise, I’d go with our 4. We’re the better team, we can go with pitching our best 3 guys 2 times each.
I’ll go with whatever Girardi says, but Heyman saying the Yankees will consider it isn’t exacting breaking news. Girardi’s going to consider everything.
Hopefully, we’ll be up 3-0 anyway.

Thanks DT. It was a great time, regardless of the issue I had with my seat.
I didnt know that they mentioned George on the postgame, thats great to hear!
I am trying to load the pictures up now, but there are just so many…. Does anyone know the html code for adding a feature where u click the link to see the whole post?
Not sure if I explained that right, but posting all the pictures is gonna take up alot of room on my blog, so I wanted it to be where it shows only a little bit of it, but the whole thing after you click on the link
Christina–where is your blog? I’d love to see the pics once they’re loaded. what was the seat issue?
What issues did you have with your seat?
Was Francesa sitting next to you?
Christina-
what issue digya have w. your seat?

robertson was very poised and well spoken.
basically said girardi has made good decisions all year and being taken out with two outs didn’t bother him.
thanks, randy! that’s our d-rob!
randy l,
Thanks for that. The players job is to do, not question. At least that’s the way it’s supposed to be.
girrardi will not go with a 3 man rotation & pitch everybody on short rest throughout the entire series
it would be insane
“basically said girardi has made good decisions all year and being taken out with two outs didn’t bother him.”
Well, that’s at least one person it didn’t bother.
I loaded the picture on my blog. Will keep it up for a few so you guys can see.
Long story short. Got this ticket when it went on sale, directly through MLB, not stubhub. It is a $200 dollar ticket. However, noone told me that this was going to be my view. Had I known, I would have never bought these seats.
http://alleitersbullpencatcher.....ame-6.html
So who’s on, who’s off?
Hinske to be seems to be on, Guzzman is off
I see no reason to carry three catchers so I have to believe Cerele is off, but I’m not sure who he puts on
Christina, those seats-Yikes!
This is what the Yanks should do..
Game 1: CC
Game 2: AJ
OFF DAY
Game 3: Pettite
Game 4: CC
Game 5: AJ
OFF DAY
Game 6: Pettite
Game 7: CC
**HAVE CHAD GAUDIN and ACE READY FOR 1-2 INNINGS to limit Pettite in game 6 (if necessary) if struggling.**
This is the LAST series…there’s nothing to save anyone for after this…USE them!!!
Lineup: w/ DH
Jeter
Damon
Tex
Arod
Posada
Matsui
Cano
Swisher
Melky
honestly…i would ask Matsui and see how he’s feeling to possibly play the field for one of the games in Philly if swish is still slumping…
Jeter SS
Damon LF
Tex 1B
Arod 3B
Posada C
Matsui RF
Cano 2B
Melky CF
PITCHER
DONT PUT MOLINA IN LINEUP FOR AJ!!

I would’ve spent my time walking around and viewing the game from the concourses. (is that even possible?)
Did I miss it, or did anyone mention that George Steinbrenner will be at the first game?
And si.com reporting that the teletubby that Phillips ahem connected with got fired. Sucks to be them. But at least neither one lied about their son flying through the Colorado sky.

here’s what i think girardi will do:
game 1- sabathia 4 days rest
game 2- burnett 4 days rest
game 3- pettitte 4 days rest
game 4-sabathia 3 days rest
game 5- girardi will decide based on what happens in games 1-4
game 6- girardi will decide based on what happens in games 1-5
game 7- sabathia 3 days rest
No chance Matsui plays defense. If Joe hasn’t benched Swisher yet, he’s not going to at all. Nick did manage to single to keep the rally going in that 3 run inning they had.
Time for the Yankees to stop being foolish and put Melancon on the roster. The guy works quick and pounds the zone and is tough to hit. He is a much better option than anyone we have. Stop the madness. put him on the roster
This sounds like a new LoHud Guessing Game…
GTWSSR
“Guess the World Series Starting Rotation”
I’m on the record of having
CC/AJ/Andy/CC/AJ/Andy/CC
Of course rain would screw up the contest. And, of course, I am NOT volunteering to organize this game (not organized enough [and too lazy]).
“Time for the Yankees to stop being foolish and put Melancon on the roster.”
Glad to see Mark Melancon’s mom is a LoHud blog reader. Welcome aboard, Mrs. M!

========================
Melancon? No
Danny,
Melancon? We should take a poll. Bruney or Melancon on a WORLD SERIES roster?
I vote Bruney.
randy l,
I like your version. Don’t know how many days of rest we’re talking about for each pitcher, but hopefully we won’t need all 7 games (I don’t think I could survive). Any weather delays would just give more rest which for a guy like Andy only helps.
2 thoughts on above: Molina WILL catch AJ. no way Girardi changing that and no reason to the numbers are so lopsided i often find the debate laughable.
Andy is NOT pitching on 3 days rest. Neither is AJ. (in a game 7, or elimination anything goes however) Only question is if CC goes on 3 days twice. It may depend on where series is after first 3 games, but gut feel is that Gaudin gets game 4.
CC
AJ
ANDY
GAUDIN
CC

Yes, someone said he will be there
I am just more annoyed that the Yankees had the audacity to put seats directly behind the cameraman in that location. And to then charge $200 for that ticket on top of that. You literally couldnt see a thing unless you sat on the top of your seat (which the people behind me didnt like). And when he starts swinging the camera around to get a play, just forget about seeing what went on. I hope I never run into Lonn Trost.
ooh, I like youronthemark-texeira’s version, too.

i was once fined in kangaroo court for a “teletubby” violation.
she showed up for our game and when she started yelling my name i looked up and she had on a big red and white checked skirt.
i was fined for going out with a picnic table.
yes there was alcohol involved.
m-
The teletubby comment was great.
With CC, AJ, and Andy pitching 6 games, and Gaudin and Committee for 1, I like our chances better than monkeying around with short rest for all three or some combination where AJ only gets one start. Pettitte should not pitch until game 3.
Think about it game by game. Getting the first two would be huge, so set things up to put yourself in the best position to do so.
CC is obvious in Game 1.
AJ on normal rest or Andy on 3 days rest in Game 2? I like AJ here. Andy on short rest puts us at a disadvantage.
Andy in Game 3 against Hamels (?) up 2-0. Pretty even matchup, but I like Andy on normal rest and on the road no matter the series at that point.
Gaudin and Committee in Game 4 against Blanton. If we are up 3-0, I really like it. If up 2-1, and we lose we have CC back in Game 5 on regular rest and I like it. We will score plenty on Blanton. If we are down 2-1, or 3-0 perhaps then you shake things up to move CC into Game 4.
CC in Game 5 if it gets that far. I think the Yanks win in 5 and this is the clincher.
AJ at home in Game 6 if it gets that far.
Andy in a game 7 with CC available if necessary. It would be his day to throw a side session anyway. You could get 3 innings out of him.
randy l,
Ewww. Although, these are the kind of war stories that we can’t get enough of. More, more, please!
Buddy,
Haha. She’s a tubby that USED to work in television.
Worst Halloween party, ever. THANKS A LOT MLB. I HAVE TO WATCH 4 hour games every night, and then you ruin my weekends. There goes first semester law school grades, out the window.
The thanks goes to you Mr. Steinbrenner, for investing in your team, and taking the fans along with you.
So many owners just pocket the money.Thank you also, for upholding and guarding the Yankee legacy.
the crazy/crappy start times might make for some late games here on the EC but i bet every PP and NYY fan will be staying up late to watch every pitch! a lot of missed work in the morning perhaps haha. well worth it when #27 comes in!!!!!!!
Also, the short rest issue is not a question of “saving” anyone. It is a question of effectiveness in the game pitched. Pitchers on short rest typically do not do well. Historically, it is the exception and not the rule. Yes CC did it last time, but it is a crapshoot. He has also not done well on short rest in the past. Andy and AJ do not have a track record to really look at in my opinion. Just because AJ did it in Toronto in the middle of last year does not mean much at the end of the season in the pressure of the post season.
Baseball players are creatures of routine. Played over a 162 game season. You take them out of the routine, and it is very risky.
The story about the Yankees hitting in the late innings. They had one hit in the sixth and one hit in the seventh, none in the eighth. Nine BB and Nineteen men left on base. In the eighth they were leading by one run. I’ll let you people draw your own conclusions. Personally, bases loaded, up by two, and you’re swinging from the heels for a Grand Slam? Why?
Melancon?? On the roster? No thanks. Maybe next year.
hman-
i don’t see gaudin starting game 4 because he hasn’t started in so long.
i think sabathia will go 3 games.
that’s why they gave him all that money.
i think gaudin will be there if one of the starters needs early help.
Story no one is talking about. Yanks getting ZERO production from #5 hitter behind Arod. Scouting report as was clearly demonstrated by Angels (and it worked), was pitch around Arod in almost EVERY situation, regardless of how many runners are on b/c damage will be much less w either posado/matsui behind him. Posada left 10 men on base yesterday (12 if you count runners in double plays he hit into). Arod wont get anything to hit unless guys behind him begin to step up. BTW Matsui looks old and brittle…..
Why do we need Melancon on the rooster?
Do we need to teach one of the Philly batters a lesson?
This isn’t the NL. Phillies won’t have the luxury of working around anyone. Look at Melky, he had one of the better series. The more guys the Phillies put on base, the better chances we have of scoring.
Hey Randy,
maybe you should write your own Bull Durham.
We all know they’re not all Susan Sarandons out there.
Did Jay-z really make the Yankee hat more famous than a Yankee could?
Hopefully Matsui has time to get his knees drained in the next 2 days. He looked like he was 60 years old out there and had terrible at bats. Everything was a ground ball to 1st base. Someone has to step up and protect Arod otherwise he won’t see any pitches to hit.
jay-z is on drugs for even saying that.
Angels clearly pitched around AROD entire series after he proved how hot he is. It completely worked for them. Our avg w risp was brutal. i know it was 8 for 59 at one point…..
we were really brutal with risp. but we swept the hottest team in the league in the twins and then took the angels in six. i think we’re way too talented for the phillies.
Posada has been a very good hitter for many years. Hopefully he will be ashamed of his performance and return to normal. Swisher gets himself out on any and all curveballs.
Angels have better pitching imo. Lidge blew 2 saves in a 3 game set against us. That’ll be a hoot.
What scares me is the Phillies scouting. Although, their pitchers may not be able to execute as well as they did last year.
I’m not underestimating the Phillies at all. Just putting things in what I believe is the proper perspective.
with all the discussion on Yankees starting pitching who does Philly have? With talk of using Pedro in game 2 tells you alot about their starters??
i agree i think we beat philly. but we need to step it up a bit. right now we are relying on only a handful of players. swish is an auto out (his hit yesterday was well placed but not well struck). too excited and anxious. girardi loyalty to him is baffling.
The bats have to step up in this series. Especially Tex, Posada and Cano. Tex is a must so they have to pitch to Arod and Posada behind him so they can’t walk him. They will have to score more runs and stop leaving so many guys on base to beat the Phillies. The Phils lineup has been very consistent in the post season.

————————————————————
The Yankees aren’t so desperate for major league records that they need to have the record for the world’s oldest batboy.
Angels groundball pitchers handled our slower guys (Posada and Matsui) well. Hopefully flyball pitching will be back in style with the Phillies.
i’m not overlooking the phillies at all. but i think we’ve had a tougher road to get to this point. swish is in a rut but if he gets a hold of a fastball it’s gone. he’s made some good plays in right also.
Anybody have a good position by position breakdown?
interestingly enough, pete abe had a good one. there was a link from his twitter earlier today.
The Yanks are lucky that their pitchers pitched so well so far in both 2 series. So far the story has been how great the pitching has been while the hitting has struggled for the most part. Against Lee they can’t leave 10 guys on base. I am surprised how many guys in the lineup are so cold.
Brian,
Did you notice Swisher’s was swinging the bat much better and with much more authority yesterday?
O/T but AJ and Werth have a connection in the past:
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.c.....index.html
Here’s my take on The World Series…..The Rockies & The Dodgers gave Philly a much more difficult time ( as both series swung on 1 game ) that The Twins and the Angels gave the Yankees…..And both teams, Twins & Angels were better teams than The Rockies & Dodgers respectivley…..Yanks in 6
The Phils kind of remind me of the mid-late 90s Orioles teams.
Questionable startering pitching outside of their #1 guy.
Prolific offense.
Solid bullpen – but they walk too many guys.
Wonder if Jeffrey Maier will be in attendance?
I’m so excited to see Pedro’s Cinderella story suffer a sudden, bloody death.
Like Padilla’s did.

There’s about 30 of them on here, and according to all 30 people, they’re all good. However, there are at least 75 people that think they are all BS.
he did have some good cuts. i know the hit trickled to the outfield, but he got decent wood on the ball in his first at bat. i could see him coming out of his slump a bit in the ws.
Wow Christina. Tough seat.
They should have at least labeled that ticket obstructed butt view.
You should have told the camera man it was your life long ambition to hold the audio dish. That would have moved you a bit closer….
I can’t say enough good things about Alex. Total domination. Totally in control and taking what they give him. I’ve never seen anything like it in the playoffs. Simply amazing.
An early rainout would be helpful to the Yanks, but it looks like that’s not in the cards. I just checked the 10-day forecast for the Bronx and for Philly. Good weather is forecast. Just a handful of days with possibility of showers.
It wasn’t just the hits in Game #6, it was the patience that all of the Yankee hitters showed on a lot of close pitches. There was a lot of walks by Angels pitchers in that series, which could account for some of the hitters getting a little jumpy at the plate from time to time.

I agree re pitching around Alex.
I really think Alex and Tex should swap spots.
This is the best preview I’ve seen so far. Awesome read.

Christina- For $200 you had a cameraman in front of you for the whole game? Wow!
I wouldn’t have paid $200 for that either.
I agree with DT, it should be marked as obstructed view.
I’ll repeat this one more time:
Andy pitches better on 5 or more days rest than on 4 days rest, he isn’t going to pitch on 3 days rest because there is no reason for him to do so.
His record this year on 4 days rest: 6-6 4.57 ERA
His record this year on 5 days rest: 6-1 3.63 ERA
Girardi isn’t exactly someone who is a risk taker in his decision making and he isn’t going to risk pitching Andy on 3 days rest when he hasn’t pitched with short rest since he came back to the Yankees. One of the most important elements in effective pitching is routine and preparation so you just can’t decide the day before a game who is pitching the next game. He can hold off deciding on a game 4 starter until the end of the 2nd game but, if he wants CC to pitch game 4 he won’t throw a side session on the off day-if he is pitching game 5 he will.
one more thing-each of Andy’s post season starts is on extended rest (5+ days), that has a lot to do with how well he’s pitched. He needs to be sharp to get outs and doesn’t have the velocity or movement in his fastball to get through a lineup 2 or 3 times without pinpoint location. I’m a huge Andy fan but those are the facts.
Outrageous. Maybe the tough but tender George Steinbrenner will refund your money, Christina!
This was Game 6 in a nutshell (The game was 3-2 at this point)
But then, New York was immensely aided in its efforts by the Angels’ sudden inability to play defense against bunts. Two bunts in the eighth inning were accompanied, back-to-back, by egregious Angels errors, which helped to pad the Yankees’ lead to three. But you still have to credit the Yankees for diversification. These errors wouldn’t have occurred without New York playing small ball and getting the bunts down in the first place. It is good to have tremendous power, but every once in a while, scoring two runs without a hit can be very beneficial.

anybody hear the yankee “run this town” parody that z100 did? sounds pretty good…

Completely off topic…
A guy I thought would be a lock for the HOF… Robby Alomar.
After looking at the numbers, it’ll be closer than I thought.
His selling points are:
10 gold gloves (and he was awesome)
474 sb’s
2700 hits
210 hr’s (not bad for a 2b)
Negatives include:
- never had a 200 hit season
- only 6 100+ run seasons, despite hitting at the top of great lineups during the ‘roid era
- significant drop-off from age 33 season to 34 season (.956 ops to .708) he was washed up by 34
- spit in Hirschbeck’s face
Thoughts? or is this too Off-topic for everyone with World Series Fever?
One of the Yankees greatest strengths is forcing their opponents off their game. They did it to the Twins & Angels, now we’ll see about the Phillies.
The Yankees’ inability in Game 6 to get hits with risp was appalling. Fortunately Pettite, who was so discounted in the days preceding the game, pitched very well.
That game should have been a blowout.
Vin, The Hirschbeck incident is what keeps Robbie for ebtering the Halls of Cooperstown….His play on the filed is worthy of being there

They walked Cano twice in Game 6. Twice! A guy who doesn’t walk. Never met a pitch he didn’t try to hit. Walked. Twice. And scored. This is a tough Yankees team.
I fought with the ticket guy for 40 minutes yesterday, which was a waste of my time. Ultimately, he told me I had 3 options.
1. Upgrade my seats to the Legends section (which I had to pay the difference of the seats, which we all know how expensive that section is)
2. Keep my ticket
3. Get a refund and be escorted out of the stadium.
For the record in the post season of Alex Rodriguez’ coming out party:
Combined numbers:
AB – 32
R – 10
H – 14
TB – 31
2B – 2
3B – 0
HR – 5
RBI – 12
W – 9
SO – 5
BA – .438
SGL – .969
OBP – .548
OBPS – 1.517
Runs Produced – 16 or 49% of Yankee Runs
If he comes anywhere close to that, he’ll challenge Bonds and Beltran’s numbers since the 3 tier post season started.
Much has been made of the fact that the Yankee lineup applies continous pressure. This series would validate that. Eight errors by a very sound defensive team.

His entire approach changed after Game #1. He drew 4 walks in the next 5 games. It makes you wonder if somebody talked to him. We’ll find out during the WS, though, he’ll be seeing a lot of left handers.
Christina, I so admired your determination to see that game. I know what it’s like to have an obstructed-view seat in the playoffs, so I can appreciate the injustice of you having shelled out $200 for the privilege.
Of course the Yankees should mark the seats and offer them at a discount.
46 hours and 41 minutes until Game 1!!!!!!!!!

Christina – did the ticket say obstructed view? If not – I would have made a stink too.
Options 1 + 3 aren’t acceptable.
Email the NY Post or Daily News – they are always looking for side line human interest stories up until Weds.
Show them the picture you took – tell them how far you drove, etc…
You might end of getting a call from the Yankees with a World Series ticket. Nobody love bad pr.
