Show up early for Game 1
Here’s the official release from Major League Baseball…
First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama, Dr. Jill Biden, and other dignitaries and elected officials will attend Game One of the 2009 World Series in support of returning veterans and their families. Due to their attendance, security will be increased in and around Yankee Stadium. Fans entering the ballpark will be required to pass through security which will cause delays in getting to their seats.
MLB is offering the following tips to fans attending the game:
• Arrive early to allow for enough time to enter the park as you should expect long lines.
• The gates open at 5:00 p.m. Eastern
• On-field ceremonies begin at 7:30 p.m. Eastern
• Do not bring bottles or coolers of any kind into the ballpark. They will not be permitted.
• Do not bring anything that you would not be allowed to bring on a plane. The rules for what items you can bring into the stadium will be the same as TSA restrictions, which you can find at www.tsa.gov. Any items surrendered at the gates will not be returned.
• Please minimize items you bring into the stadium to speed up the inspection process.

Can’t wait for tomorrow
Trish, if SJ believes that AJ has asked for Molina to catch him, then I disagree. I don’t see any reason to believe the worst in the man. That said, I think it’s ridiculous for Joe to still go with AJ/Molina………..but the man is going to do what he’s going to do.
Any idea what time Jay-Z and Alicia Keys are going to perform?
Who’s throwing out the first pitch?
Is the weather still looking bad?
ESPN says Yankees adding Bruney to roster.
Sun Devil:
During the pre-game ceremony, the First Lady and Dr. Biden will escort former Yankees player Yogi Berra and Tony Odierno, a West Point graduate who lost his arm during the war in Iraq. Odierno will throw out the first pitch. His father is General Raymond Odierno, the current Commanding General of the Multi-National Force in Iraq.

“Is the weather still looking bad?”
Nope. It changed again. Showers early and overcast the rest of the day.

Interesting. Cervelli’s probably the odd man out, since there was an earlier report that Hinske is replacing Guzman. I LOVE Cervelli, but he probably wasn’t going to see much playing time. And if they’re stretching Gaudin out for a start, they’ll need another arm in the pen.
Bruney and Hinske are on, Guzman and Cervelli are off.
From a purely superstitious POV, they have to add Hinske.
Betsy, I don’t think for a minute that AJ asked for special favors. I think that Girardi went based on what he was seeing.
I know we disagree on this one (AJ-Moline), and I also know you aren’t really impressed with Girardi right now. Since I am trusting Girardi, even if he went with Posada I would think it was the right move. But it’s because I do trust he knows what he’s doing.
“ESPN says Yankees adding Bruney to roster.”
Dispelling the myth that spraying the Yankee CEO with champagne is not hazardous to your career.
pat, I think Hal said “Who is that young man? I like his moxie!”

I wonder how all these people know the roster? Joe say he wasn’t releasing it until tomorrow morning at 10! (Not doubting the reports, just wonder how it got out.)
24 hours and 36 minutes until Game 1!!!!!!!!!

Hopefully they rename the show “Biggest Winner” just for tonight.
I’m running a livechat on my blog right now, and you are all cordially invited to come and take part!

Peter gammons just gave the Phillies the advantage at the Catcher position, Carlos Ruiz over Jorge Posada. And that’s where I shut off ESPN for the night.
I got Yanks in 5 this time
I’m shocked they’re making Pedro pitch in NY. That’s really cruel of Manuel.
“Who’s your daddy” chants return?
Erica – always OPPC…
Thanks for the Jeter on TBL tip.
Don’t know if you all saw the last thread but repost also about Jeter:
Another great example of the Yankee players reaching out locally. This story was just on Eyewitness News. Love Jeter!

It is definitely time to change your handle again!!!!!!!!!!
Ruiz over Posada is such a joke it’s not worth discussing.
Erica-
You’re right, I almost forgot!
“Wait till the World Series” is now my handle.
Should be fun.
Maybe Pedro would rather get yelled at by Yankee fans than have to stand in the batter’s box and face Yankee pitching.

Aren’t you due for a name change?
Nick-Actually, that’s a not a bad point.
Perhaps he’d rather Pedro get yelled at then beaned.
Yankee Babes vs Philly Babes
Number 10 is hilarious

I’d be ticked as all heck if I were going and had to be delayed cause they wanted to go.
Wait til – got it.
Vin, thanks.
Moves not surprising according to what Girardi had said to Francessa. Just figured we wouldn’t hear about it until tomorrow. I guess we’ll get the “official” version tomorrow at 10.
Just for kicks,
Clemens was a beast in his 1st postseason.
He got knocked around in his first game (against the Angels) but then dominated including in game 7 which was his 2nd game in a row on short rest.
He didn’t do so well in his WS debut (his 3rd game in a row on short rest) but toughed it out against Gooden. Then he dominated again in the Buckner game.
Anyway, comparing Clemens to AJ is like comparing gold to silver.
I love how Baseball Tonight is saying that all the pressure is on the Yankees to win all of Sabathia’s starts. There is pressure in each game no matter what so that makes no sense.
And Kruk is such a homer for the Phillies.
Gold to silver sounds generous. Gold to bronze even sounds like a stretch. I’m not up on my sub-bronze metals, though… gold to zinc sounds overly harsh.
“And that’s where I shut off ESPN for the night.”
They lost me when Bobby V started diagramming Kate Hudson’s baseball lineage.
Pedro on local Philly news channel being interviewed at The Stadium saying, in effect, “When they yell ‘Who’s your daddy’ it will make me think of my own daddy.”
touching
It’s thick here around southeastern PA – surrounded by the infidels.
“I love how Baseball Tonight is saying that all the pressure is on the Yankees to win all of Sabathia’s starts.”
The idiot host just asked Kruk if Lidge was a better closer than Mo. Are you kidding me? Kruk had the good sense not to answer.
pat, i know what you mean….. Not too often you would expect to hear Kurt Russell references on Baseball Tonight… Just about everything they were saying was so nonsensical I couldn’t stand it… Kruk shouldn’t even be allowed to analyze any part of this series… he is an admitted Philly fan and obviously cannot suppress his bias and objectively critique anything about the matchup
I think the series is almost dead even. The yanks have a huge advantage at closer and their top 3 pitchers are better then the phils top 3…yanks in 6

I hate clemens..but you can not compare aj and clemens…aj is no clemens…they are both head cases but..clemens was much better in his prime
“Peter gammons just gave the Phillies the advantage at the Catcher position, Carlos Ruiz over Jorge Posada.”
I’m surprised BoSox fanboy Gammons didnt somehow work Varitek into the conversation.
Actually, Kurt Russell was a highly touted player coming out of high school and was a good average hitter that the Angels thought would hit for some power as he grew. also a good defensive 2nd baseman. Everything fell apart when he tore up his throwing shoulder.

Laura – Bring on PHI!
It was pure stupidity. Kruk is a joke and the host is a joke. Kruk and all of his predictions have been wrong the entire year. And now he predicts that the Phillies will win because there offense will be too much, but I thought pitching wins in October and the Yankees have better pitching. Kruk is a idiot !
Gammons isn’t the only one who gives the catcher edge to Ruiz. The anti-Yankee bile is flowing all through the web right now. I want to bathe in it, it SUSTAINS ME!!!!
Angel fans are the worst. Before the series they “owned the yankees” now they say we’ve bought the title. Garbage.
Time to restore order to the universe and hoist #27.
Wish I could hear that crowd roar for Pedro’s blood in the Bronx. It will be electric.
Let Kruk and his cronies pick the Phillies. They will all eat their words when the Yankees win.
The whole Baseball Tonight show tonight was very choppy and strange…But Gammons is really showing his age, he said Ruiz was no Posada, then went on to pick Ruiz.
Kruk is just a fool. His reasoning is that of a typical hater, the Twins and the Angles beat themselves…it had nothing to do with the Yankee starting Pitching or the constant pressure they put on the opponents pitchers.
Typical ESPN.
I’m glad to see Bruney added to the squad. We may need a lot of pitchers, especially since there won’t be an extra off day, as there was in the last series. Also, if a game is rained out, I wonder whether the travel day would be eliminated, since Philly and NY are so close.
Not taking Cervelli might mean that Jorge will catch Burnett, but I doubt it. I think Joe is prepared to have Jorge pinch hit for Molina and take the very slight risk that Jorge is then unable to complete the game.
I’m going and you losers aren’t! HAHAHAHA
that’s typical. government ruining things for the common person.
and if you guys noticed, john kruk has picked against the yankees ALL YEAR. everyone at espn hates the yanks. i’m not surprised since they are based out of boston. but yea, they will eat their words when the yanks win it.

I’m also in SE PA. They can’t even give the weather report down here without talking about the Phillies. One of the news anchors said this morning that the Phillies take on the “overrated, overpaid, George Steinbrenner having, Billy Martin firing Yankees” tonight. Twice.
