Basketball has a system that works and the players union doesn’t seem to mind. So does football. It goes beyond a cap.

So who is to blame that the Yankees run a profit and other teams do not? What do other teams need to do differently? You are going to tell me that with revenue sharing, billions of dollars TV contracts and record attendance these teams are not making a profit? Come on.

The only thing that needs to be changed is other teams need to stop being cheap.

I guess all the other teams are just not willing to spend and only the Yankees are. My guess is that all the teams try to operate for a profit. Just cause the Twins owner is “one of the richest men in America” doesn’t mean he should run loses on his baseball business. Do you think Steinbrn runs loses year-in and year-out?

Should some organizations be forced to spend more? YES! Will they ever be able to spend near the same as the Yankees? NO, NEVER!

Steinbnr should be allowed to do whatever the league allows under the current rules/structure. Go for it. The point is they league should be structured differently. I don’t think sports should be run like any other industry, and they are not in other respects.

To me a Yankee victory is like hunting deer with a machine gun while every other team can only afford a pistol or bow and arrow. I guess you can feel good about bagging a deer but to me it feels hollow and contrived.
