Damon is still a threat at the plate but boy is he a liability in the field. He looks like a little-leaguer out there. I don't think they can bring back both he & Matsui next year. A Melky, Gardner, Swisher outfield doesn't sound so bad. I don't know who else is out there as a free agent.

You're not listening -- I said all these teams are making a profit. Again, that reflects the disparity. The Yankees can make profits and spend 208 million on payroll. No other team can do that.

But according to you, ALL the other teams are cheap I guess.

Basketball has a system that works and the players union doesn't seem to mind. So does football. It goes beyond a cap.

I'm moving on from this conversation. I think everyone else is bored.

Yes ESJ, when you put the cap in, how are the Yankees supposed to unload those contracts? You need to come up with solutions, not just "put a cap in". Its not so easy to just say, put a cap in. Do you really think the players association will ever let a cap get in? I didn't think so.

So who is to blame that the Yankees run a profit and other teams do not? What do other teams need to do differently? You are going to tell me that with revenue sharing, billions of dollars TV contracts and record attendance these teams are not making a profit? Come on.

The only thing that needs to be changed is other teams need to stop being cheap.

Hi Pete,

The tax is just another operating expense for the Yankees. No big deal.

I guess all the other teams are just not willing to spend and only the Yankees are. My guess is that all the teams try to operate for a profit. Just cause the Twins owner is "one of the richest men in America" doesn't mean he should run loses on his baseball business. Do you think Steinbrn runs loses year-in and year-out?

Should some organizations be forced to spend more? YES! Will they ever be able to spend near the same as the Yankees? NO, NEVER!

Steiner has a machine gun and should use it. I'd do the same. That doesn't mean it's fair. It's the weak leadership of the league that should make the rules.

What are the poor Yankees to do with ALL THOSE CONTACTS (that on one else can afford)? Your question helps prove my point.

Esj, baseball does have the system the NBA does. Go over a number and you pay a tax.

And what of you have the machine Gun and don't use it? You do know the owner of the twins before he passed was one of the richest men in America? why is his payroll so small? Its an easy excuse to use when the Yankees are winning.

And answer this question. You put a cap in. What are the Yankees supposed to do with all of these contracts?

Why would any Yankee victory be "hollow and contrived". It was earned "under the current rules/structure." Just sounds like sour grapes to me.

I think the curent system is working just fine. wink

Hey Rob in beautiful VT (love Jamaica),

Steinbnr should be allowed to do whatever the league allows under the current rules/structure. Go for it. The point is they league should be structured differently. I don't think sports should be run like any other industry, and they are not in other respects.

To me a Yankee victory is like hunting deer with a machine gun while every other team can only afford a pistol or bow and arrow. I guess you can feel good about bagging a deer but to me it feels hollow and contrived.

Maybe I shouldn't single out A-Rod -- maybe because of his lame confession that everyone has already forgotten about. All cheaters should be *ed.

The question I have to all Yankee fans is...Would you or would you not want to see a financial system more like the NBA or football?

EastSideJoe

Why are you singling out ARod. I'm not defending what he did,but there have been plenty of "cheaters" in baseball over the past 20 years.

You continue to miss the point. Tell me why the Steinbrenner family should not be allowed to re-invest back into their business the money they have earned.
