World Series Game 6: Phillies at Yankees (III)

Sam Borden
November
4

UPDATE, 10:08 p.m.: It’s 7-1 Yankees with Pettitte – hearing his named chanted as he goes into the wind – pitching to Chase Utley. Let’s get a new thread going.

UPDATE, 10:11 p.m.: Girardi is staying with Pettitte after Ryan Howard hits a first-row homer. It’s 7-3 now.

UPDATE, 10:25 p.m.: Nice moment for Pettitte when he came out of the game. Big ovation, tip of the cap and a wave. If this is it for Pettitte, it’s a hell of a way to go out. He could be the clinching pitcher for this year’s AL East title, ALDS, ALCS and World Series. Not bad.

UPDATE, 10:39 p.m.: Think Joba is amped up? He just threw one that one-hopped the backstop.

UPDATE, 10:45 p.m.: Damaso Marte has been great since the first round but there’s no spot bigger than this one. Two on, two out, Utley up with one swing to make it a one-run game.

UPDATE 10:51 p.m.: Huge, huge strikeout for Marte. Six outs to go. Marte for Howard and then go to Mo?

UPDATE, 10:53 p.m.: Best “God Bless America” of the year from Kelli O’Hara. The 50,315 fans here loved it.

UPDATE, 11:15 p.m.: Nothing better than the bars of “Enter Sandman” on a cold night with flashbulbs popping everywhere. I’ve got to finish up about 15 things for the newspaper but don’t go anywhere. The Yankees are five outs away.

    Dear Ryan Howard,

    thanks for showing up mate, too little to late.

    Boom Outta here!

  11. djsunyc

    come on andy…let’s get out of this…

  12. terpbomber (not a bridge jumper)

    That’s not how I wanted to see Howard end his drought.

  13. 27

    Dammit.

  15. Eights

    Damn. Not a killer HR, but I was hoping Andy would hold it.

  16. Yankee44

    And West gives Philly an extra run.

  17. Paco Dooley

    I hope the likes of Mike Francesa and his diatribe over using Pettitte on short rest are feeling properly deflated as Pettitte passed the 5 inning mark with only 2 ERs. I believe he also said that Pedro would pitch well. It’s also nice to be right since I predicted a game like this in an earlier thread!

  18. Carl

    Come on Andy 2 more

  19. Gardner in CF

    way to show a replay when the crowd is rocking that place

  20. jaybird

    Oh well

  21. DW

    Let’s go Andy!!! Get out of the inning without any more damage!

  22. hman

    Thanks Joe West for one run.

  23. vin

    Not a fan of the new thread. Gotta know when to give us a new one, Sam.

  24. Yanks_Fan

    Don’t worry, that’s just to remind us to keep playing hard.

  25. antisocial scrooge

    well, take a look at that. howard got a hit :o

  26. JRod

    Wow, whoever was the guy who tried to catch that ball must have never played Little League. Holding their glove palm up while it’s coming at their face.

    ****
    Yup. I joined in.
    Angel- where are you?

    I am here! I had to go and get more wine. When Andy gave up that HR, it was because I ran out of wine, lol.

    At least thats what i’m telling myself. LOL

  34. 100 pitches of fun...

    Andy please get Ibanez out….

  35. Pepitone

    I told you people we needed a one two three, now the Philliies have cut it to 4.

  39. BA

    Girardi must have told Andy to just empty the tank

  40. Bronx Jeers

    That HR is on me.

    I was just complaining that this game was getting boring.

    My buddy almost killed me.

  41. mattyinnj

    Andy & Matsui – one year deal with incentives

    and bye bye damon, he is older, more slump prone, and seems to have constant calf issues

  42. terpbomber (not a bridge jumper)

    C’mon, Joba. Do your job!

  43. JRod

    Thank you Andy !!!!!

  44. Scorpio

    Big hand for Andy.

  48. Jeremy

    Well we got the best out of Andy on short rest.

  49. KF

    NYY626

    Andy has been a horse and pretty much mastered their big guns tonight :)

  50. Carl

    Hell of a job Andy!

  51. Scorpio

    Joba better not blow this!

  52. randy l.

    joe west finally got one right on werth.

    better late than never.

  53. hman

    Oh well. Not gonna be a laugher I guess.

  54. NYY626 - GO ANDY!!

    I’m beaming :) The crowd sounds pretty into it to me.

  55. Mike in Harrisburg

    whoo let’s keep it together boys

  56. djsunyc

    andy pettitte 2009 – WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!

  57. Stultus Magnus

    Oh man. Joba…

    Just get an out. No hits, walks, just one out.

  58. Brandon AWESOME! (BECAUSE In New York! This song isn't what dreams are made of!)

    Andy Pettitte can pitch w/ 3 days rest.

    Yeeeeeah :?

  59. 100 pitches of fun...

    Girardi was a little too late with Andy. He lost it quick..

  60. Tn Yankee

    hats off to Andy

  61. DW

    Good job, Andy! Come on, Joba!

  62. Rudy

    He gave us plenty, now it’s the bullpen’s time to come up big. All we need is 4 outs.

  63. jojo

    Andy’s line is ugly with all the Wests, I mean walks, but he did what AJ couldn’t do…BATTLE!!!

  64. JMere

    Time for Joba to come in and throw smoke!

  65. JoeT 28 in 10!!

    whatever November 4th, 2009 at 10:06 pm

    Joe Buck sounds depressed LOL
    ——————-

    Imagine how John Miller would be sounding right now.

  66. Gardner in CF

    joe buck is horrible for baseball.

  67. Ecology [Going Further]

    matty, did u just say get rid of damon?
    erica???!!!

  68. Tn Yankee

    Now the fun begins—Joba

  69. JasonR

    Andy Pettitte, A True Yankee.

  70. 100 pitches of fun...

    Hopefully Joba can get an out quickly here..No messing around…

  71. Sigmund

    Heart pounding … go Joba …

  72. WS

    Wonder why Phil Coke isn’t coming in?

  73. Razor Ray

    if that ends up being his last game as a yankee(or at all) thats a pretty great way to go out

  74. Jeremy

    We need Mo for the 8th. Joba and Marte need to hold the Phillies for an inning.

  75. vin

    This was shaping up to be the biggest inning of the game for the last couple innings now.

    Andy’s control was starting to waver, the middle of the lineup was due.

    Time for Joba to re-ignite the “Joba to the BP talks.” Have to get Feliz. Leave 8-9-1 for next inning.

  76. Nick in SF in Larkspur

    AccuScore says you can put up 27 game threads, the result will be the same!

  77. Bob Mastroianni

    We got this good job yanks!

  78. GreenBeret7

    Pettitte gives them 5.1 innings very good balls. One mistake and then the final out of the year for him. Chamberlain needs to strand this runner, so the Yanks can tack on a few more runs. This score won’t end at 7-3.

  79. JoeMama

    Great outing for Pettitte couldn’t ask for much more than that

  80. vin

    “joe buck is horrible for baseball.”

    Joe Buck is horrible for planet Earth.

  81. jaybird

    No time for a Joba meltdown. Just think his Mom will be able to watch this Yankee Classic for many, many, many, years to come.

  82. Andreas

    Pettitte did better than I think most people expected and luckily the offense is working. I’m cautiously optimistic now.

  83. Angel - A tale told by idiots, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing

    Let’s go, Joba.

  84. JoeT 28 in 10!!

    I hate when FOX cuts to commercial so quick. Can we please enjoy Andy Pettitte coming off of the field and getting congratulations from his teammates …. possibly a curtain call in what could be his last time pitching as a Yankee.

    It really got me when they cut to commercial when Mo was coming in during the all-star game and everyone was going INSANE after destroying Paplebum.

  85. DT - OPPC member

    the Phillies won’t go without a fight.
    Shut them down.
    Score more Yankee runs too.

  86. Nick D.

    Oh boy.

    This bullpen is gunna give me an ulcer.

    But I still believe in them.

    LETS GO YANKS!!!!

  87. Pepitone

    Like I said, Andy Pettitte is a warrior, he was running on fumes, and still gave them what they wanted.

    If Joba gives up a HR, I’m going through this screen and choking him with my bare hands.

  88. Gardner in CF

    I wish those chants were still going…

  89. CB

    Andy did his job tonight and then some.

    The whole key with him going on short rest is that the team really only needed 5 innings from him and the lead.

    With Mo available for 2 innings they just needed Andy to get them through 5 with the lead.

    And he did exactly that.

    He emptied the tank and gave the team what he had. And the offense did it’s job.

    The bull pen just needs to be ok for 1 1/3 innings and that’s the game before it gets to Mo.

  90. djsunyc

    good challenge for joba here…

  91. KF

    Nick in SF in Larkspur November 4th, 2009 at 10:16 pm

    AccuScore says you can put up 27 game threads, the result will be the same!

    But have they figured out what you’re having for dinner tomorrow?

  92. 100 pitches of fun...

    Joba please don’t throw a get me over fastball. Feliz is a fastball hitter.

  93. Yanks_Fan

    Girardi has really become a complete good manager. He knows he overmanaged early and it cost his team a few wins. He did the right thing leaving Andy there to finish the inning and did the right thing to take him out after the double. I feel comfortable with him as manager.

    Great job from our warrior Andy Pettitte.

  94. Erica - always OPPC

    People of LoHud-

    Can we just enjoy the game tonight. And worry about who will be here in 2010 when the season is over. You know, tomorrow.

    This is a good game. Lets enjoy it

  95. 100 pitches of fun...

    Let’s go Joba throw strikes!!!!

  96. Wes

    Stop with the complaining of Posada. Some of you act like he hasn’t had a hit at all in the Post season. He did great with Pettitte tonight. Or are we still fixated on those 2 passed balls, that we can’t give the guy any credit for catching Andy? Its only the negative things right?

  97. JasonR

    Nervous.

  98. Yankee44

    100 pitches of fun… November 4th, 2009 at 10:14 pm

    Girardi was a little too late with Andy. He lost it quick..

    More like Joe West slowly took it from him.

  99. djsunyc

    heard in between innings: girardi putting in a request to change his # to 28…

  100. jaybird

    I dont feel good w/ Joba.

  101. Gardner in CF

    Give Rivera a 3-inning save

  102. DT - OPPC member

    will he screw around with the slider tonight?

  103. randy l.

    joba needs to use the fastball and listen to posada.

    the old guard has done this before.

  104. Sadie

    3 outs to Mo (if necessary)

    9 outs to 27

  105. Carl

    What Erica said!!!

  118. JC

    LETS SCORE SOME MORE RUNS FOR ANDY!!!!!!!!!!!

  119. Tom in N.J.

    Yet there were some folks who didn’t want Pettitte back this year…

  120. Sigmund

    Now Yanks, pile a few more on so I can exhale!

  121. Erica - always OPPC

    Thank you Andy Pettitte-

    Thank you for being the classy warrior you are.

    Thank you for shutting everyone up who said you could not pitch on 3 days rest.

    Thank you for being a Yankee

  122. GreenBeret7

    Pettitte walks away at the end of the season, only if he wants to. I wouldn’t be shocked if he did, but, I wouldn’t be shocked to see him sign up for one more year, either.

  123. Clare

    According to Gameday, Joba put the last three pitches in the exact same spot.

  124. DYNASTY IS DESTINY!

    Howard hurtin’ us

    Pettitte leaving to applause

    Joba’s got fight too!!!!!

  125. trisha - OPPC forever - (new lucky picture from last day at the old Stadium) BRING ON THE GHOSTS!

    I almost wish Chad Gaudin could see an inning, just because. I can’t think of anyone who was on the edge of seeing so much playing time, who saw so little!

  126. m

    18 outs, 9 to go.

    Thank goodness Godzilla terrorized the city!

  127. 100 pitches of fun...

    Good job by Joba. Time to get more runs. Now Joba, Hughes or Robertson has to get 3 more outs to get the ball to Mo. Top of the order will be up in the 8th or 9th.

  128. Wang IS Taiwan

    Ah — Joba did NOT throw a big, fat pitch over the middle of the plate! Hurrah!

  129. Gary

    That pitch to Howard was a bad break, it was moving away but started just too far inside. A bit more over the middle and it would have been a K.

    Harrison was doing a rope a dope, I thought it was a FO to the track

  130. Joe from Long Island

    Bats have to get back to work. Just rip the Phils’ hearts out.

  131. CB

    randy,

    Joba threw 5 pitches – 4 fastballs.

    And the one slider he threw was a waste pitch low and out of the zone.

    He completely overpowered Feliz.

    He just needs to stop thinking and listen to the catcher.

  132. Gardner in CF

    Big inning here. The Phillies have nothing in their pen that can stop this lineup.

  133. Donna L

    the crowd sounds very loud to me. I don’t know what people are complaining about.

    great work, Joba!

    One more inning from him, and then to Mo.

    and please, re-sign Hideki! I think he’s a better hitter than Johnny at this point.

  134. Nick in SF in Larkspur

    “But have they figured out what you’re having for dinner tomorrow?”

    Dangerous territory, KF, WWNHFDT is not a sanctioned game.

    It’s still an open question for tonight, but how can I not get Japanese after what we have seen???

  135. kate

    So nice to hear the crowd chant ANDY PETTITTE! even after the Howard HR! andy deserved that! good job ANDY! good job to the crowd too!! well deserved!

  136. randy l.

    a few sliders mixed in are fine.

    just don’t live off of them.

    joba needs to command the fastball and use the slider when it’s not so predictable.

    when he shakes off a pitch , what does he think the hitter thinks is coming ?

  137. lets go yankees (formerly lets go twins)

    Andy easily goes 8 innings with a real strike zone tonight. Unbelievable job to go 6 2/3 with 3 R against Joe West, I mean the Phillies.

  138. Jones

    I feel sorry for Cano, you can tell he’s trying so hard to contribute. Posada seems like he really wants to hit one out of the park. Hope it happens tonight. Quiet some critics

  139. DT - OPPC member

    Chad Gaudin is the Yankee security blanket if the series goes 8 games.

  140. Brandon AWESOME! (BECAUSE In New York! This song isn't what dreams are made of!)

    “Or more like 3 outs.”

    9 stop messing w/ fate. Forgive him baseball gods.

  141. Get Yer Damn Hands Off of Her

    Thank You Andy Pettitte.

  142. Nick D.

    Isn’t it surreal seeing the grey haired Pettite being a warrior on 3 days rest!?!

    He was just a 2nd year phenom in ‘96

    Amazing.

    I love these guys. Jeter, Petitte, Posada, Mo…they define my life as a Yankee fan.

    I’m 21 now…I was 8 when I started really following baseball…that was in ‘96

    I can’t even imagine the Yankees without these guys.

    This WS means a ton to me.

    LETS GO YANKS!!!!!

    (I just wish Moose was here)

  143. SteveO14

    Thanks Andy, you are a true warrior. As usual, Francesa was wrong. When I heard Francesa say that using Andy on 3 days rest was a mistake, I knew Andy would come through. Andy, you’re the best!

  144. GGBG (Magic Number: reset to 1)

    trisha

    so little as in “none” ? LOL!

  145. Xernst

    Joba back in the 7th or mix and match?

  146. JasonR

    Let’s get some runs on the board and take some pressure off Joba/Marte/Hughes(?)

  147. Erica - always OPPC

    Nick in SF-

    You may have not seen this earlier.

    Brown rice spicy shrimp roll :grin:

  148. Wang IS Taiwan

    Andy DID deserve that and more!

  149. Pepitone

    No more runs, bullpen, hold it right here.

    Get out of the seventh unscathed, and they will start smelling it.

    Then Buck and McCarver will start to talk about how this season was a referendum on Joe Girardi, and how he came through with a great job of managing this “team of wealth.”

    Then they will talk about Matsu, and whether or not he, or Damon will be coming back.

    Then they will discuss the redemption of A-Rod.

    Then they will discuss the potentially last year of Andy Pettitte.

  150. 100 pitches of fun...

  155. Patrick

    What the hell? The bar I’m at is playing sweet Caroline during that last commercial break. I’m in Yankee territory – Hoboken, NJ maybe the owner is a red sox fan? That was an insult to the yanks!

    Sorry you get credit or critism based on how you perform. Everybody at the major league level tries hard.

  161. Brandon AWESOME! (BECAUSE In New York! This song isn't what dreams are made of!)

    If Joe West had a normal strike zone Andy goes CG, well maybe b/c Mo would give him the dirty looks.

  162. Gardner in CF

    Matsui will have to hit that window on the outfield wall for a triple

  163. bru

    it sounds good bringing matsui back now but at some point when age kicks in it will hurt us

    damon is a mess in lf
    a total mess

    yes he can it but that is it

    i can see sui coming back to dh

    i would get a big bat for lf or rf & try to get a cf

    i also try to get a number 2 starter & move burnett to number 3 even if it takes trading one of hughes or joba

  164. m

    I hope that blonde reporter doesn’t ask Andy right after the game if he’s going to retire.

    I mean if she MUST ask the question, I hope she asks him if he’s coming back next season instead.

  174. jojo

    don’t bunt. you have a 4 run lead and Gardner is very hard to double up.

  175. JoeT 28 in 10!!

    best bunter in the AL?? He’s not too good at all actually, he’s just fast as h e double hockey sticks so he gets away with bad bunts sometimes

  176. djsunyc

    well , i hope he lays a nice one down anyway.

  180. Jed Pain

    Best bunter in the American League? Which cheek did he pull that out of?

  181. Nick D.

    McCarver actually found a compliment for the Yanks!

    Gardner is the best bunter in the AL

    Lucky us!

    Gardner’s bunting is definately why we are winning the series this year.

  182. Tn Yankee

    Oh and did I say, “Buck is an IDIOT”

  183. Bryan

    Since when is Gardner an outstanding bunter

    He is good but cmon the best in the AL?

  184. Aldo

    McCarver said Gardner is one of the best bunters in the AL. Does anyone remember him bunting for a hit this season?

  185. Gardner in CF

    Stretch? Sorry.

  215. hman

    Terrible execution there. We really needed to get the runner over. Brett squares way too late.

  216. Zooboy

  221. jaybird

  222. GreenBeret7

    Gardner has the worst bunting technique of anybody on the team except for Damon. That’s supposed to be part of his game and he’s brutal at it. If he can’t bunt, he’ll never get above #4 outfielder and pinch runner.

  223. jojo

    How many at bats has Gardner had in the last month? Give him a break. Cano isn’t doing much better and he plays every day.

  224. NYS

    Guys, I would give Gardy a break. Since he has come back, he has hardly gotten any ABs. It difficult to get going just like that. Look at Tex. He played brilliantly all year and still managed to get out of whack in Post season.

  225. Trevor

    DT – OPPC member November 4th, 2009 at 10:33 pm

    I wonder if the reason Gardner doesn’t bunt is he is worried about getting hit on the thumb?

    I have a feeling that has something to do with why he hasn’t been swinging either… I’m not just saying that to make excuses for him, he’s looked awful at the plate but he was never this bad… but that must be why he didn’t get very many starts when he returned from the DL compared to before he got hurt. But it must have something to do with it, because other teams know that he won’t swing and he’s watching a lot of hittable pitches go by. I can’t imagine he completely forgot how to swing a bat since he got hurt.

  334. Yankee44

  335. jaybird

  336. Todd

    The Stadium needs to pipe in crowd noise..

  337. GreenBeret7

    Gardner doesn’t even need to be a great, Rizzuto/Carew type bunter….just good. He has no desire to bunt and gives a half-hearted effort. He fancies himself as a big time hitter, and he’s not. He doesn’t need to have a ton of at bats to be able to lay a bunt down, so, you can stop that crap, now..

  338. Pepitone

    What’s Joba been doing with his cap? Using it to strain spaghetti?

    7 outs from the world series championship.

  398. 100 pitches of fun...

    Joba is just so unreliable. #9 hitter and then a walk.

  404. Nick D.

    I guess we’re seeing Mo for 2 innings.

    I really think they should try to get outs from someone in the 8th and bring Mo in as late as possible.

    Just not too late ;)

    Correct me if my memory failes me, but wasn’t Joba’s command when he first came up to the majors terrific? He’s all over the place now AND his velocity is down.

    Unless he’s out of options, I’d send him down to the minors at the start of the season and have him go back to work as a starter…again. Then, bring him and up and have him continue as a starter.

    Otherwise — just trade him and get something of value. I honestly am tired of his act. And don’t tell me he’s still “young” — there are great, mature pitchers out there younger than Joba. Joba’s problems are in his attitude and in his head.

    Well he stunk up AAA this year so no real loss.

    Want to hear something sad-

    My shower really needs to be cleaned & curtain liner changed. But I am afraid it will mess up the shower karma.

    So I am waiting until the season is over.

    Also, I knew Game 1 was going to be a loss when I pulled the curtain and saw a bug with 10,000 legs

  567. Quietstorm

    speaking of cashman. great job convincing andy to come back.

  568. blake

    I’d sure like a tack on or two here.

  569. YankeeKid

    I also agree to bring back Marte to pitch to Howard

  570. Bronx Bombers Girl

    Angel, totally agree on the noise level of the crowd. Sad that “corporate” folks buy up all the seats and the true fans can’t be there! Even the acoustics are not what they used to be! :(

  744. Erica - always OPPC

    Wow-

    Nothing changes the mood on this blog quite like a Cano strike out.

    Quit it. We are 6 outs fromt he World Series Championship!!! Bash Cano another day.

  745. americanbear

    all this talk about the MVP is premature. it’s decided after the series and the series is still on

  746. Brandon AWESOME! (BECAUSE In New York! This song isn't what dreams are made of!)

    “cano u f’ng suck!!!!!!!!!!
    i really dont wanna see his ugly face and stupid swings again.
    trade him away, he’s a piece of garbage.
    always falls under pressure, never does anything good”

    He hit 2 hard line drive outs, excuse him for not finding a hole. And it’s 7-3 for the WS and he’s given us good defense too… LMAO at this comment.

  747. GreenBeret7

    Guess not. Cano hasn’t been good in the WS, like a lot of others, but, he had some big run producing hits against the angels with the 2 triples and double. Everybody has contributed to wins in the post season this year, and that’s what makes a winning team.

  748. terpbomber (not a bridge jumper)

    If the Yankees were losing badly or were in the middle of an important rally, I’d probably wouldn’t be too forgiving with that AB.

  749. Todd

    Oh, what??????? Robbie Cannot!!!!!!!!!!!

  750. JasonR

    Wow Damaso in to face Howard.

  751. hman

    Easy guys. Apart from that AB, Cano had some pretty good swings tonight.

  752. Gary

    Cano has no idea what the strike zone is, but someone posted we should all feel sorry for him because he is trying so hard. LoL

  753. blake

    who is gonna play 2nd if they trade Cano. Guy did hit .320 this year and has played good defense in the playoffs. You can’t get rid of a guy unless you know somebody better to put in his spot. He’s just pressing..

  754. yanksince57-was last year 1959 or was it 1965?

    since i called yanks in 6, i offer the following :) pettitte, matsui and marte – the pros come through. god bless mr. cashman, may he last forever!

  756. jojo

    Cano couldn’t hit if off a tee right now.

  757. Laura - "You should know I bleed Blue, but I ain't a Crip though"

    Cano had a bad postseason, but he is still a very good player. Not everyone can be a superstar in the postseason. Ask Ryan Howard.

  758. tex's friend

    cano is not getting traded…

  759. Quietstorm

    agree posada called a great game tonight and he has to get some credit with the starting pitching performance in the postseason. but also have to admit that he has often looked lost behind the plate with some passed balls a bunch of stolen bases and even one time where he wasnt aware how many outs there were (against the angels)

  760. Wang IS Taiwan

    Not sure what value we’d get for Cano…he can’t hit with RISP or in pressure situations. He occasionally makes a good play in the field, though, followed by a idiot mistake…

    GO MARTE!

    GGBG,

    I completely agree. Mo is more likely to give up a broken bat bloop, than a booming double. Regardless, gardner should have gotten that, due to his speed. But he didn’t even give himself a chance once he turned the wrong way.

    Gardner was playing shallow because 95% of the time, the hits that come off of Mo are little flares and broken bat dunkers.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    True — the outfielders typically are told by the coaches to play shallow with Mo pitching.
  982. hman
    Gardner was playing right where he should have been.
    How many hits to that part of deep center off Mo have you ever seen?
    Tomorrow’s gonna be a great day on campus
    OK I POSE ONE MORE QUESTION:
    How does Johnny get out onto the field for the celebration? Does someone carry him, does he crawl, will he be wheeled?
    ****
    I volunteer to carry himn!!!!
    ME! ME!
    “Have I mentioned I miss Johnny Damon”
    I do to..he still owes the yankees a grand slam in a playoff game from what happened in 2004..
    he had two hits in the angels series..he might 0-10 in the world series not postseason..
  1125. JoeT 28 in 10!!
    Erica – it definitely sounded like JD to me at first too – I only realized it was “27″ because I was like wow that’s a blatant insult to Harriston but realized it was 27
  1126. Quietstorm
    Lets go Mo!
  1127. The Phranchise
    Yes the Curse of Tex sounds even more ridiculous now, what an idiot. I will take the curse if it means the Sox go out in the first round and the Yankees win the WS. The curse is reversed……. bunch of losers
    ADVERT DISASTER….
    New thread… this will self destruct
  1130. ???
    McCarver said yanks should move melky to right or trade him. so the golden boy be the full time center fielder next season.
  1131. WS
    Can’t believe it’s been 9 yrs
  1132. CB
    “what reliable relief pitchers did he have? none…he was doomed when pedro did not have it?”
    Didn’t say he had any reliable relievers.
    Nonetheless not all of his relief pitchers are equal.
    And in the biggest spot in the game – at the point in the game where it was very clear that the yankees score anymore runs the game is over Manuel was content to let his season end on the arm of Happ.
    Madson isn’t Mo. Not close. But there is no question he is much, much better than Happ. And matsui isn’t phased against left handed pitchers. And with his plus change you could at least see Madson giving Matsui some trouble.
    So instead of using his best pitcher to keep the game in striking distance Manuel brings him in for the two lowest leverage outs of the entire game.
    Just nonsensical.
  1133. beachyankee
    this is it 3 outs Mo please
    ray,
    I always knew you were a classy guy, but that is the height of it.
    Thanks.
  1343. The Vent
    Predicted ESPN article: 200 billion, Old, Purchased Pitching, Bam Box, 2004, etc. Suck it ESPN! 4 core players from 15 years ago and Arod!
  1344. Quietstorm
    Got to be happy for AROD!!!!!!!!!!
  1345. CR9
    WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
    OOOOOOOO
    About time. Appreciate this one.
    A YEAR OF PIES
  1346. Gary
    Pretty amazing in the modern era. To do it with 3 starters, a un-hittable reliever and with only half the team hitting. You could give the MVP to any of about 5 guys and not have a strong argument.
  1347. CR9
    ENDS WITH TEARS IN THE EYES.
  1348. Nick D.
    Wow.
    A lot of great players just got their first rings.
    And a lot just got another one.
    Many thanks, Ray. You’re always a class act.
    You know, it’s still not too late to be a part of the evil Empire. You’d be most welcome.
    Of course, you realize that joining up with the Empire this late, you wouldn’t get the big, diamond encrusted Championship ring that the rest of us get, but, you will get a smaller version.
  1350. Angel - A tale told by idiots, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing
    Ken Rosenthal is such a leprechaun amongst giants around these guys, lol.
