I recall when Pete got BIG props from Rob Neyer at SI for an observation that was lifted DIRECTLY from SJ44, about a possible major-league move based on minor league action.

I wrote about it at the time on another forum, with links and dates. It was SJ44 at his insider best, and PA’s comment was flat-out nicked from him, with zero attribution or “hat tip”.

Pete can be an excellent reporter and a good writer, and laugh-out-loud funny, but he’s never been shy about nicking ideas from other sources.

Okay, fine (the way you write it, I can’t help but think of Gal 2:11, which is slightly amusing). But a LOT of people who went head to head with Pete got banned AND their posts were deleted (and not just trolls).

All in all, I have very mixed feelings about ol’ Pete. He did a great job in many respects – gave me a lot of pleasure as a reader, and really, what more can you ask for from a writer? – but he has a weird dark side.

I will miss the throw-downs between GB7 & PA… that was some great stuff… like two hardcore badhats shooting it out in a Western. (GB’s Walter Brennan circa My Darling Clementine vs. PA’s Lee Marvin circa Liberty Valance? Or vice-versa?)
