Changing the sign
Several people have written to suggest that a little housekeeping is in order and I agree: I have submitted a request to our Web Guru to change the info in the “About This Blog” box on the right so that it reflects the fact that we are writing about the 27-time World Champion Yankees. Thanks to all who noticed and wrote in.
With that, I’m taking a short break. It’s been a crazy six weeks or so, from when Pete left to Chad arriving and then on through three long rounds of playoffs, and so I’m headed off to a very special place for a few days. Well, either there or here. One of the two. I’ll send postcards.
Anyway, Chad will be all over the Yankees clubhouse clean-out today and then off to the GM meetings on Sunday night as the Hot Stove League gets going. I’ll talk to you all soon.

Thanks for all the hard work Sam, you deserve some time to yourself !!!
Might be an irrelevant question, but does anyone know if the Yankees did a “I’m going to disney world commercial”? Those are always fun to watch and hoping the Yanks did one
My kids prefer Narnia. Have fun.
There’s always Oz, too. Thanks for all your great work leaping in to the breach. You guys
made a Former New Yorker who’s been out here for years feel part of the team! I’m used to taking a lot of grief so it has been great fun being part of this community!
Hurray Yankees!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!’
was at the knicks game, god was it boring, only highlight was seeing all the yankees there courtside, cc and alex were sitting with jay-z, hopefully they tried to convince lebron to come to nyc next summer, otherwise i can’t see why anyone would ever go to a knicks game

I think that is only after the Super Bowl.
BUT, Swisher did take it upon himself to say “I’M GOING TO DISNEY WORLD” to a reporter
I wonder if Cashman and Pettitte have discussed a time frame for his decision?
enjoy the break sam, you deserve it, you held it down over here.
Thanks Sam, it’s been quite a ride!! Personally, I pick a nice beach with good drinks!!
Where The Wild Things Are and Narnia? Is that code for Vegas?
Have fun!
Ooh, the former Sam. Spike Jonze did a fantastic job with it.
Sam you might want to do a friendly reminder thread on the commenting guidelines, and linking to political sites/trash, was always a no no,right?
Thank you guys for your great coverage of our Yankees.
You know they are the team of the decade
Thanks for all the hard work guys. Will continue to read throughout the offseason to stay on top of all moves.
Check out this blog written from a Yankees fan http://planetforward.ca/blog/t.....#more-2770
All the newbie’s got postseason experience now.Next year they know what to expect as for as the intensity and level of play that’s expected.
I’m so excited that the young bloods(baby bombers) get to play with the core-4( for lack of a better phrase) to defend the championship!
Enjoy your vacation Sam.
Have a good time – you deserve it!!
Sam, enjoy your break. It has been hectic, hasn’t it?
I’ve been following the Yankees from afar since the Pirates broke my young heart in 1960. I have never felt so well informed and so well connected to the team than in th past few weeks. I do hope you know how much you all are appreciated. Have a good time off. We expect you in mid-season form by the winter meetings.
Sam, you’ve done an outstanding job these past six weeks and I hope you enjoy your break. You’re an elegant writer and excellent reporter and an all-round good guy and we are lucky to have you.
This blog really could have gone either way when Pete left. You, Chad and Josh have stepped into the breach and made it better and stronger than ever. This is an important place for me and I appreciate your great work.
I saw posted somewhere on petes blog the poll question of who is the team of the decade for the 2000s. After this championship I don’t see how the red sox have any claim to that. Both teams won two ws but the yanks went to two more had a higher overall winning percentage and won more division titles.. Once again the sox just can’t hang
Enjoy your break Sam. Ed H sums it up for me as well.
That Empire State of Mind song keeps running thru my head.
* Free agent filing period: first 15 days after World Series ends
* Dec. 1 — Last day for teams to offer salary arbitration
* Dec. 7-10 — Baseball winter meetings, Indianapolis
Sam
Thanks! Enjoy your well deserved time off.
Blake, don’t worry, the Red Sox fans are hanging on “2000 isn’t this decade” and well we swept our WS wins.
“2000 isn’t this decade”
I was born in 1980. Does that mean I was born in the 70s?
I think its kinda funny how they can rationalize that not making the world series is somehow better than making it and losing. Oh red sox fans…
doesnt chad look like swisher in the jay-z pic ??
Tom, I agree.
I am watching the MLB Yankee WS marathon. Its great to see these players of the Yankee glory days. Its funny to see so many low numbers on the Yankee teams.
great work sam. thanks.
Great job Sam. Thanks for everything and get some rest

I was born in 1980 as well. I consider myself a full 80’s child
By the way, I fell asleep before 9 last night and woke up at 9:30 this morning. I may have been tired
I really want to give a big shout out to Sam (and his team) for what this forum has become. I agree that once Pete left, this forum was going to go in some direction, but which direction was the unknown.
There have been certain hot-button topics that have brought out a lot of acrimony thoughout the season; but what I noticed is that those same topics were discussed in a lot more reasonable fashion once Pete left. Opinions may have remained the same, but the discussion lacked the true hostility that was so much a part of it when Pete was here. I attribute that to the fact that the forum hosts did not ever feel the need to get down and dirty with their opinions nor criticize the views of individual posters.
While a few posters have commented that the forum hosts aren’t “edgy” enough in their presentations, I think their manner has encouraged a calmness and civility that was heretofore lacking. It doesn’t mean that posters haven’t gotten testy from time to time. But it does mean that it seems to disappear as quickly as it shows up. And to me, that’s a very very good thing.
I think of Sam as the leader of the pack. Therefore I especially thank Sam for the new way of doing business. I think it’s wonderful.
Erin if you are out there…
Did you see today’s google doodle???? If not, SCRAM over there
Trisha
can you re-post your prediction chart, I didn’t get to see it.
thanks
Erica, it’s oscar the grouch. Is there a reason why it’s like that today?
Sam,
You deserve a break, great job these last 6 weeks
Patrick-
Its in celebration of the 40th Anniversary of Sesame Street on November 10th. Its a pretty big deal. Wednesday was Big Bird. Thursday= Cooke Monster. Friday- Ernie and Bert.
I have been doing lots of random googling cause its so cute
Sam- may your vacation be full of laughter and glee. Enjoy yourself. Thanks for all your contributions on this blog.

Ummm I went to be at 6:30 last night. My friends and I left the city after the parade and lunch to go home and take a nap. I woke up from that nap at 7am this morning. Whooops.
Upstate Kate – will do. I won’t bother posting the MVP Prediction Chart since we didn’t have any winner.

Okay. Good. Glad it wasn’t just me.
Meanwhile, I am sitting here in my pjs drinking coffee. I am looking around my apartment and it looks like someome ransacked it. Why do i feel like I am always cleaning, yet my apartment is always a mess?
This is not an exaggeration- there are actually 4 large cardboard boxes scattered around my living room floor

I tried. I was creaming “Johnny, I love you. Come back. Come back”. Then I realized I was jumping up and down on a porr lady’s foot.
The funny part is I DVRed the YES coverage and at one point they showed Johnny and you could hear a female screaming “come back, come back!”. LOL. I have no idea if that was me or not. I don’t think it was though- it didn’t look like the area I was standing.
Sam, thank you for all of your hard work!
It’s now hitting home that this is the end of the season – players are cleaning out their lockers and going home. I find it kind of sad, especially since there will be some changes by next spring and that yesterday was the last time this team would be all together. Still, it was a wonderful, wonderful year and the players will always have these memories (and the fans will have some pretty good ones as well, lol).
Betsy-
It is pretty sad. This really was such a special season. I was a little disappointed in YES yesterday that they only showed playoff highlights. I would have liked to see the highlight reel they played at the end of the regular season again. Afterall, if they don’t play those 162 games- the post season is irrelevent
Betsy
I agree, it is bittersweet. I still have the parade and post game shows on the DVR to watch
I stayed up until very late (early am) to watch my YES tape of the parade – AJ looked very cool in Alex’s hat. Joe and Jeter couldn’t help laughing – everyone got kick out of it, lol

Oh yes, I saw Andy. He looked awesome, and happy. Damon was having a blast as well. And its always a pleasure to see Jeter with his classic “I’m in my element” smile.

I had to get rid of those. MY DVR was 86% full with 3 hours of TV getting taped last night. I got rid of all the Yankee stuff and got it down to 47% before I passed out last night. Sadly, I added 3 more hours last night…… I feel like I am not even making a dent
I think my plan is to punish myself and not watch any TV until my apartment is cleaned, sheets changed, and maybe a visit to the gym
Erica, I’m sure YES will have a season-recap show……..that will be a keeper, for sure. Did you read (and Erin, you too), the Cashman article I posted in the previous thread? I think Cash understands what a special team this is in terms of how much they really care about each other – he refers to them (as he has been lately) as a band of brothers. I tear up whenever I hear him say that – and I go back to reading this piece from SI a month or two ago where AJ describes how, unbelievably, they all grew to practically love each other in a few short months…….
I just consulted my USA Today 2009 Baseball Preview (purchased early April cause Johnny Damon was on the cover).
Out of 5 people…. Paul While correctly predicted a Yankees vs. Phillies World Series, with the Yankees victorious.
I wonder if he gets to say “told you so”.
Who is Pete,Sam?
Name sounds familiar can’t quite place the face, uhmmm……oh well,he must not be important!
How about that parade celebrating the WS champions the NY Yankees? The trophy is back home, where it belongs!

I have to go back and look. That’s another advantage Johnny Damon has on his return. He is a huge part of the chemistry of this team. He is a veteran, but very likeable.
I tried. I was creaming “Johnny, I love you. Come back. Come back”.

Thanks to Sam, Chad and Josh for all your hard work, the blog has never been better, loves it!
Great ARod quote about wishing they could continue to play “for no reason………no umpires………………like a softball game.”
Doesn’t want the sun to go down…
Sam, consider a break in Colorado. Even better than Narnia or the Wild place, and it’s real. Snow in the mountains, a few ski areas open, while we are still wearing shorts and tees here in the Grand Valley.
About the only thing missing is good coverage of the Yankees, and you have filled that void so well I now get the best of both worlds.
Thanks.

Ahh I see. I always did love Sesame Street, I watched it every day as a little kid. Big Bird was always my favorite
