You people are sure talking small time. With the Yankees war chest they can sign anyone. You don't think they will go after Halladay, Lackey, Beltre, Gonzalez, or Holiday?

I'm betting they go after two of these guys and purchase another WS run. There are plenty of minor league teams to feast off of too -- San Diego, Kansas City, Cleveland, Oakland. The list of Yankee developmental teams goes on.

I don't think the Yankees will deal with Boston.

And does madden really think the Yankees “possibly” make montero available in a trade for a starting pitcher? The only pitcher that would be even close to worth it would be Felix.

----------------------------------------------------------

so you are saying that montero who has done nothing in the majors is going to get you an ace pitcher & one of the best pitchers in baseball?

it will take way more than montero & i do it in a second

Gb, I understand. Cleveland wasn't going to resign DeRosa. Nor, were they going to offer him arbitration it an atempt to get comp. draft pick(s); so they needed to get something for him.

Franklin Gutierrez would have fit in perfectly with the Yankees. Indians gave up Garko for nothing last year too.

I’m not jumping on anyone, but just wanted to point out that most organizations have a David Robertson type in their system. Although, for the most part Robertson was under the radar because he was overshadowed by bigger names like Joba, Hughes, Kennedy, Brackman etc. Robertson was a hidden gem that turned out to be quite valuable.

GB7,

I haven’t heard anything. It would’ve been nice to have for sure, but oh well. And I take umbrage to your comment about Suzyn & John. Nobody needs that.

Sterling's ok.....even with his little foibles. Waldman may not be the greatest, mainly because of the shrill voice, but, she does her homework, and her pre and post game interviews and questions are certainly better and more professional than those from the so-called "eye candy", who really isn't.

Tom, Derosa was a free agent at the end of the season and wanting more than Cleveland wanted to pay. Cleveland made some strange mid-season deals with trading three outfielders, any three that would have fit in very nicely in NY. Franklin Gutierrez was a winter deal, but, at 25 years old when dealt, he may be the best of the ones they traded. Derosa is good, but, getting some age. They got all they were likely to get, and that pitcher ended up hurt. Ben Francisco would have been a decent pickup, too.

I'm all for building for the future and lowering the payroll but I hope that cashman and the Yankees remember that there is a limited window where players like jeter and Rivera will be able to continue playing like this. The red sox will most likely try and make a splash this offseason to try and get back on top and I hope the Yankees aren't content to stand pat.

I think we may not fully appreciate some of these guys until they are gone

Tom,

Good one.

Was just looking at trade rumors, and there's a lot of stuff about the Sox. Like only Nick Cafardo (yes, the writer) thinks the Sox can net Adrian Gonzalez.

And Rosenthal thinks that Beckett should ask the Red Sox for Burnett-type $$. Anyone thinks Becky gives the Sox a hometown discount?
