"I’d let Joba and Hughes be the 4th and 5th starter and see what they do. YOu got to give them a shot. If it does become a disastor with them which I dont see. You can trade for a starter at the trade deadline."

You wouldn't necessarily need to make a trade. They'd still have Aceves and Gaudin who could slide into the rotation. In addition they'd have Kennedy, Nova and probably Mitre in the minors.

Hughes has thrown 192 major league innings. Joba has thrown 281 major league innings.

That's not an insignificant amount of experience.

Cashman has already indicated that neither joba nor phil will be under any significant innings limit next year.

Neither one should be guaranteed a spot in the rotation. Both should have to compete against other guys who could start. Joba in particular needs to show that he's in shape and focused.

It's a risk - but it's nowhere near the risk it was starting Hughes and Kennedy two years ago.

I can see where Granderson would be a good addition to the Yankees. There are pluses and minuses with any player, and it makes it harder when you have players that you like leaving in part because of it.

My reservations come in who would have to be traded to get him, and how the club will be impacted by the loss of Matsui or Damon (or both).

If Halladay is really available, which I do think he is, he would be a better choice for trading the higher end players for. One reason I would really like him on the Yankees, beside the obvious of his own ability, was how well AJ learned from him. Bringing in Doc could help Burnett and the young arms that are still with the Yankees. From the sound of it, it would be a case where an extension would happen, so it isn't a rental. That is a plus in my mind, as the time lost from the traded players could be made up with wins from Halladay.

Other trade opportunities will come up, many that are not even rumors or thought of.

If the Yankees trade for Granderson(which i hope for) than Robertson is deffinently coming into the deal. it isnt that terrible. He could spot start and work long relief. If not release him. Its worth getting Granderson.

I dont really see Cashman trading Hughes or Chamberlain. He didn't trade them when the team needed an ace for Johan Santana what makes people think he will trade them now for Halladay coming off a championship?

I'd let Joba and Hughes be the 4th and 5th starter and see what they do. YOu got to give them a shot. If it does become a disastor with them which I dont see. You can trade for a starter at the trade deadline.

And I think Matt Cain will be free agent next year. I would make a run at him next year instead of Halladay because Pettitte will likely be gone.

Rebecca,

Nicely done!! What a great opportunity.

I particularly enjoyed your comments on the new stadium and park factor variation over time.

I don't think I read anyone in the main stream media bring up that point in as spot on a manner as you did in that interview.

Congrats!

Pat M.

Are you really good with a rotation of CC, AJ, Andy, Joba & Hughes…..I see it as a gamble…..

Nope. Thats why i don't care who plays left field. Its important to land someone like a Lackey. or save the trade chips you would use for Granderson and use them for Halladay instead.

The thing is . We can't fold and make a trade for Granderson right away. Thats exactly what the Sox are waiting for . The less chips we have for Halladay the better postion the Sox are in to land him.

Didn't mean to cause confusion about Romulo Sanchez. In the past he's been eligible but protected. As someone pointed out, that's true of a lot of players. I just didn't want to include Sanchez with the first-time guys because he doesn't really fit that category.

Also, this morning I checked with Mark Newman via email because I also thought Sanchez might be a free agent. Newman's response: "Sanchez is Rule 5 eligible and poses a
decision we have make."
