The season is over but Alex Rodriguez still draws a crowd. A-Rod joined several teammates and former Yankees at an autograph-signing session in New Rochelle yesterday, and the fans packed in to get his signature. Greg Clary has the story.

—–

As it turned out, Derek Jeter sat in one of the prime “always on-camera” rows right behind the ring at last night’s Pacquiao/Cotto fight. The Captain was alongside his movie buddies, Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell, and sat next to a producer from the HBO show “Entourage.” CC Sabathia was said to be in the house as well, but wasn’t shown on camera in ringside seats. Giants running back Brandon Jacobs was also there.

For those who missed it, check out the replay on HBO next week or whenever they show it. Great fight. I was a few rounds off; I said Pac-Man in eight and he ended up winning in the 12th.

    chad

    i saw the fight
i believe it was the 8th round when pac was all over cotto & i remember thinking man chad might be right here

    but cotto survived

pac beat him down & was hardly ever touched

pac & floyd will be great

    Bru,

    I’m Sam. Chad’s the other, less good-looking guy :-)

  3. bru November 15th, 2009 at 9:48 am

pac had trouble with a few of the mexican fighters but lately no fighter is even coming close to even touching him

floyd might not knock fighters out but he hardly has been touched by anybody, ever & is undefeated

i cant see floyd knocking pac out but stranger things have happened

if floyd cant run he will have to engage

    thats where it gets interesting

    floyd is faster

I do not know much about boxing. When you say Floyd is faster, does that mean he throws faster punches?

Did you see my post last night? I was not meaning to be arrogant or portray that I know what Joe’s feelings are.

  7. Spencer November 15th, 2009 at 10:22 am

Actually the fight was stopped in the 12th, not the 11th.

Pac is a unorthodox but brilliant fighter at the top of his game. I don’t think any boxer now fighting can throw a faster flurry of powerful punches from so many different angles.
Mayweather is a great defensive boxer, but I don’t know how one defends against a boxer that fights like no one else. He doesn’t have a speed or power advantage, but perhaps he is better “technically.” Mayweather avoids fights like these – precisely because he doesn’t want to take the risk of blemishing his record.

I guess I understand why the Journal News covered this signing, but I really wish they hadn’t.

Brandon Steiner is a leech on the good name of baseball, and should never be promoted in any way.

  9. Dr. Cox November 15th, 2009 at 10:56 am

Brandon Steiner just conquered a small corner of a baseball that is extremely in demand. He is a great businessman and entrepreneur to bash on him would be to bash on America.

    yes i saw yer post

    t/y

i try not to come across as if i know anything myself because i do not

i try to put Imo as much as possible

at times i do get my stats wrong but…

pac is fast but floyd is in another world imo

i think most experts would agree but pac is also fast

    i watch the big fights

i saw last nights fight for free online

i hear ya on the girardi thing

i just think he got burned out & when that happens & the fun is gone it has to hurt in a negative way

    he did great for us

    you cant take that away

    it happened on his watch

a good manager is getting the most out of players but you have to have the money & talent to win it all

  11. Christina: Pictures from the Yankees Parade November 15th, 2009 at 11:03 am

Paying up to 450 dollars for an autograph? Ouch. Go to an away game and you can get an autograph like that for free. I got an autograph of both Jeter and A-Rod in Toronto. Didnt cost me a penny.

It would have made more sense if the money went to charity, but I guess if people are willing to pay that much, then you can’t fault them for taking advantage of that.

  12. NG November 15th, 2009 at 11:08 am

Sam, it happened in the 12-th. Floyd vs PackMan? That would be something to watch. How to beat Pacquiao? Watch his first fight against Morales. His offense is unmatched but he is below average defender. Make him move backward. Sounds easy, huh? I guess it is not that easy. I still think Pretty Boy can knock him out cold and early.

  13. bru November 15th, 2009 at 11:13 am

    Spencer

pac is fast but i dont think he is as fast as floyd

floyd will try to outpoint him

    who knows who will win

it will be a great fight & it will happen

    to much money involved

i cant see floyd hurting pac but maybe outpointing him

    maybe

cotto should of stayed with his jab all night

straight, hard & follow through instead of pulling his punches back
the way to stop speed is with a jab & cotto has a great one with a ton of power

if he stayed with it instead of dancing around he had a shot

once i saw cotto not being able to hurt pac & pac coming in with no fear i knew it was over

cotto at first hit pac with some nice jabs

he should of jabbed then kept circling to the left to take mannys lh power away

  14. bru November 15th, 2009 at 11:20 am

pac makes adjustments like no other & likes throwing a lot of punches at every angle

i think you can keep moving to the left after jabbing & try to make him use only his right

then set up,jab to the left eye so you can throw a right hand without it being seen

    then repeat

  15. bru November 15th, 2009 at 11:30 am

    cotto started out great

he jabbed, had his hands up high, elbows tucked in & his chin touching his chest to cover everything

    very hard to hit

he should of just jabbed pac to death & wait for openings while moving to his left away from pacs left hand

pac likes chaos with no rhythm or system

Boxing day on the blog. That’s OK, not much else going on. Can’t wait for the organization to finish their meetings and start moving on building next year’s team. It will probably be sometime in December when Ninja Cashman starts tipping his hand…

GB7 got his backside handed to him hand-grenade style for his pompous attitude and absurd ideas.

It must have been such a handling that I completely missed it.

    Hey GB,

I don’t know if you are online right now, but wanted to give you a heads up on something.

Earlier this morning I was reading some of the postings last night and was surprised to see someone posing as me.

They sent a message to you saying something about you being a bully and stuff like that.

I want you to know that was a false message that I did not send. Looked like it was sent by a regular because they had me asking about your family and things.

Now I know you cheer for the wrong team :) and you pick on my dog Yaz….but I would never call you a bully.

StandingO’Neill, could you please link (or cite) your “backside” reference.

I’ve got my money on GB –

I’ve seen his business card –
    “Have camouflage will travel…
fighting idiots and trolls on the internet since 1892″

  22. Erica - always OPPC November 15th, 2009 at 12:21 pm

    Ray-

You can e-mail Sam and he will ban the imposter. My hunch is the same person was posting all those nasty GB7 messages- in which banning them wouldn’t be so tragic cause it would probably make this blog a nicer place

  23. DT - OPPC member November 15th, 2009 at 12:26 pm

    “hahahahahahahahahahahahaha”

I never trust any poster who uses an uneven number of haha’s.

    It’s haha. (2)
If the laugh needle is stuck and multiple haha’s are used they should end in an even number. 13 ha’s is just odd.

Single “ha’s” should only be used on pop-ups in foreign countries. Preferably around 3B.

  24. ray (sox fan) November 15th, 2009 at 12:28 pm

Thank you Erica. Sounds like good advice.

    ray ( sox fan)-

i would never call gb7 a blog bully either.

… mainly out of my instinct for self preservation because it just can’t be smart to call someone names who owns a blunderbuss .

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blunderbuss

and ray,i saw that post and knew it wasn’t you. anyone who knows people on the blog can figure out the impostors.

” mainly out of my instinct for self preservation because it just can’t be smart to call someone names who owns a blunderbuss .”

A blunderbuss would be a good way to break up a filibuster.
