World Series trophy making the rounds

Trophy

Last night I got a most unexpected email from longtime reader of this blog, Ron Hromisin. Turns out, the World Series trophy was back in my old stomping grounds this weekend, and Ron was there to see it.

Al Santasiere, who co-wrote the official retrospective of the old Yankee Stadium, was at Misericordia University — near Scranton in a town called Dallas — for a book signing. The trophy came with him.

“My family and I returned a short time ago from what was the thrill of a lifetime,” Ron wrote. “There it was in all it’s glory, for the first time ever outside of NYY Stadium!!!”

All three exclamation points were Ron’s, and every one of them seemed necessary.

It would be nice if they really got the World Series trophy all over the place for people to take pictures with. Other teams have done this before, notably the Sox and I think it is a great think for the fans.

One awesome sight, the trophy is finally back at home with the Yankees!

The next beautiful sight,is the presentation of the rings ceremony.

I hope they can keep Costanza from dragging this one through the parking lot! :)

  6. Arno

Not actually correct, the trophy left the new stadium at least once when Matsui brought it out on Letterman.

  7. Al Lebo

Hey how about sending it up to Gloversville in the Adirondacks? Lotsa Yankee fans up here.

  8. Phil

The trophy has not only been to Letterman, but was at city hall and at 30 Rock also. It made some media rounds already.

  9. Roger(live from Amsterdam)

Hey how about sending it up to Amsterdam?Lots of Yankee fans up here…well one

“the trophy left the new stadium at least once when Matsui brought it out on Letterman.”

Are you sure it was the real trophy? Knowing Hideki, it may have been a drawing.

I love the WS trophy – it’s so beautiful (especially when it’s representing a Yankees championship)

    Yeah, this makes sense:

    http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/

The Yankees are willing to trade Phil or Joba, but they want to hold onto AJax? I don’t think so…….Seriously, do people pull these rumors out of their rear ends?

  15. Phil

The above Phil is not me.

    Here’s the actual article…….

  17. Mark in Tampa

What am I missing with the red sox? Why does every rumor I see about them have something to do with a corner infielder?

They have Lowell, who is nearly unmoveable, Youkilis, and Kotchman. If Vmart plays more than 100 games behind the plate, that is bad for Boston, although Varitek is not much of an option. They can’t slough off one of them to DH because of Ortiz.

Why are they not using their chips for a top level SS? I just hope they continue on this path.

sign bay or holliday for lf

trade hughes or joba + cano for king felix, sign pettitte & let miranda dh

pena or a fa/trade to play 2nd base

    our rotation would be

    cc
    king felix
    burnett
    pettitte
    joba/hughes

    outfield

    bay/holliday
    melky
    swisher

    infield

    arod
    jeter
    pena/hairston/fa
    tex
    posada

    dh
    miranda
    posada

    payroll around 192 million

•The fate of John Lackey could potentially affect the offseason plans of each of the AL East powers. Both the Yankees and Red Sox have interest, and Cafardo suggests that landing Lackey would allow the Red Sox to turn around and move Clay Buchholz in a deal for a coveted bat, like Adrian Gonzalez.
•Cafardo relays this quote from an AL GM: “The Red Sox could be the major player this offseason if certain things fall together for them. They still have enough chips in their farm system to make something big happen.”

    via MLBTR

Are these people truly insane. They are talking about Clay Buchholz for Adrian Gonzalez. They just got a big bat in Victor Martinez for nothing. Clay Buchholz is not worth sweat off my bum. He is definitely not worth hometown, Mexican heritage Gonzalez.

Whenever we wanted somebody, ESPN and the rest of the mediots would say, “it’s the arrogance of the Yankees to think they can get whomever they want and that the player is available to them”

Where is ESPN to shoot down the ridiculous idea that Gonzo is going anywhere this offseason.

  20. Mark in Tampa

Absolutely no to trading Cano. I have no interest in seeing a revolving door of sub-ML quality players at second base for the forseeable future. Cano is a future HOF at just his current production levels if he keeps it up for 10+years. There is no rason why he couldn’t do that.

If they do go with Miranda at DH, they are going to need to sign a bat like Holliday to cover the lost production.

Also, I feel that the Yankees will be lookng at bringing in another starter(Halladay, Lackey, etc) or bringing back Pettitte. But not both. Just a feeling, nothing more.

  21. Wait till we do it all Over Again

We’re not trading Joba, Hughes, or Cano.

  22. GreenBeret7

Explain AGAIN, exactly what reason Seattle would have to trade Hernandez who’s young and cost effective, and especially for a second baseman that they already have? The Yanks lose a high powered bat and defensive gem at 2nd base and exchange pitchers just to gain maybe five wins from pitchers and lose 7-8 games because of an inferior 2nd baseman.

Stick to your day job. You’re not likely to replace Cashman anytime soon.

  23. Art?rs Irbe

Again, Greenberet7, doing what Greenberet7 does best. Greenberet7 attacking another commenter, with more of Greenberet7’s non quantified statistics. I bet Greenberet7 could have 7-8 more friends than 0 if he lost the attitude. I bet Greenberet7 could keep the 5 remaining hairs on his head if he tried being kind.

    re: Aroldis Chapman

I read in the NY Daily News that a scout thinks he’ll get Strasburg type money but nothing more since Strasburg has comparable velocity but more refined command and better secondary pitches to compliment his heater.

Strasburg got 4 years 15 million from the Nats. If the Yankees can snag Chapman for 5 years and 20 million dollars as predicted by this scout, the leftover spending money will be enough for the Yankees to make some big moves. Furthermore, if they avoid big free agents like Bay, Holliday, Matsui and Damon and instead trade for Curtis Granderson, they can probably afford to easily sign both Pettitte AND Lackey or sign Pettitte AND lock up Halladay long term (after trading for him of course).

  25. gfd

Whenever Damon Oppenheimer,Director of scouting Yankees is faced with the chant of the 200mm payroll.

He replies,I’ve never seen a payroll on a ring!!!

    Bob Elliot,Sun Media http://www.torontosun.com

Article: Never seen a payroll on a ring.

  26. Betsy - high on pie

I don’t see that article on the website…….but anyway, I’ve heard that quote and he’s absolutely right. I love it when other fans whine and moan – I love it that they are miserable.

  27. gfd

Chapman right now is a raw product.Unproven,if any team pays him outlandish money that’s on them.He !should sign for 5yrs,
with an opt-out.If he is good then cash in,at a young age still.

  28. Betsy - high on pie

I generally skip over trade proposals……….they’re just fantasy …..especially if they involve Felix Hernandez. He’s on the Ms, I expect he will remain there and there are alot more interesting, realistic possibilities to discuss.

I do not believe Joba or Phil will be traded, even for Doc. Where Nick Cafardo gets his info is beyond me……..Again, it’s ludicrous to suggest that AJax (who I like) has more value to the Yankees than 2 young pitchers who have actually experienced success (and, yes, failure at times) in the majors.

  29. Tarheelyank

    Art?rs Irbe

I consider myself a friend of GB 7. You need to update your “quantified statistics” from “7-8 more friends than 0″ to 5-6 more than 1.

  30. Bret the Hitman

Maybe the Yankees are posturing when they say they want to hold onto AJax because they want to boost his trade value. Who knows? Maybe Dombrowski brought him up in discussions with Cashman at the GM Meetings.

  31. Bret the Hitman

If the Yankees are willing to trade Joba or Phil, I’d rather they try to put together a package for King Felix than Roy Halladay since Felix is younger, cheaper and most likely will outpitch Roy over the next 5 years. Since Felix is so much cheaper than Doc the extra savings can be invested in Matt Holliday to play LF.

Granted, it’s unlikely Seattle would trade King Felix since he is under contract for 2010 and 2011 and the asking price starts with Joba or Phil PLUS Jesus Montero.

  33. GreenBeret7

Even if Toronto wanted to include Vernon Wells in a deal with Halladay and Toronto picked up half of the remaining contract, nobody’s going to take it. He just had surgery to repair a torn tendon in his wrist. Before a team would take that, he’d have to prove he was healthy.

  34. Bret the Hitman

    Agreed Green Beret

  35. Phil

    Go Giants!

  36. gfd

Betsy when you get to the Totonto websit, type in Bob Elliot and the article title,it comes up.It’s a great read.

Remember everyone here wondered where and what Cashman was doing,it tells you.

  37. vey

The new GM in Toronto hasn’t said he’d pair up Wells in any deal. That was the old fired GM.

  38. Phil

Actually, this is the real Phil.
