I was at the 7:30 showing last night & the DVD is fantastic. Everybody had a blast. Joe Girardi, Brian Cashman, Michael Kay, Suzyn Waldman & John Sterling were all there & Joe Girardi & Brian Cashman high-fived us as they were going down the aisle. Someone also brought the WS trophy down the aisle & it was up on the podium while everyone made their speeches. It was as much fun as actually being at a game. The shots of Pedro’s face on the giant screen every time he gave up a run were absolutely priceless. I highly recommend getting the DVD.

I really hope the DVD included that Venga Bus song they used when the players got their keys to the city ! Still can’t believe they played that crap !

Giving any position player the day off as a DH makes no sense. In a close game, Pena or Cervelli or any other bench player would be pinch hit for by someone off the bench (Jeter, ARod, Tex, or Posada would be the DH in this scenario), and then you have to put someone in the defensive position. If you pull your DH so he can play defensively, you lose your DH for the pitcher.
Have an everyday DH, like Matsui, and give your position players the day off when they need it. They can always come in late in the game to provide extra pop.

One other point, Ray. By your way of measuring things, Jeter was only the best player on the planet if 27 year old Larry W. Jones (MLB leading 165 runs created, 168 OPS+) was playing on a different one.

Point never was that Jeter was somehow inferior. Offensively, he was superb. So was Alomar, and Alomar played superior defense.

Thats the one thing that pushes Matsui over the top.

and what brings him back to the pack is that when Girardi wants to DH Tex, Jeter, Alex or anyone else Matsui has to go to the bench since he is physically not able to play in the outfield anymore.

Yikes, Delgado at DH – no thanks.

I would rather remake the outfield and move Swisher to DH or bring in a solid catcher (either via trade or free agency or non-tenders) and move Jorge to DH.

For example – if Kelly Shoppach is non-tendered (a strong possibility) I would grab him up in a second and let him work as the primary catcher with Jorge getting a few games and Cervelli serving as an emergency back-up.

Yes that means carrying three catchers, but if Jorge is the primary DH that’s fine.

Matsui is better than almost any option for DH out there because he doesn’t have a platoon split. Thats the one thing that pushes Matsui over the top.
