i agree

we should strike first & trade for jj or kf

let the rs pay 100 million for doc, lose prospects & get becket mad to the point he leaves or gets a huge raise further hurting the rs

at least we get a younger more cost controlled pitcher for now

joba or hughes with 2 or 3 more prospects & try like hell to keep at least montero, maybe ajax also

if we keep montero & one of joba/hughes we have to do it

Considering the playoffs are where 4 starters truly matter, you can patchwork the backend of a rotation just fine with a guy like Gaudin. Gaudin was VERY serviceable…thats why I was thinking postseason. I think Wang’s finished personally.
__

Either way, Wang was a significant loss. In terms of his regular season career, he would have been their #2 starter.

I don't think he's donw.

"and boy was 2005 a long time ago lol."

Four years?

If one is going to give up all that for Roy, why not give that package and alittle more to get Johnson. That would be the far better move in the short term and long term.

“The thing with the Wang injury though was that it didn’t affect their playoff rotation since they were able to ride a 3 man all the way through…In my opinion “ground ball” pitchers never do well in the playoffs. You need guys that can get some K’s.”

I didn’t know we were confining the discussion to the playoffs.

Wang certainly pitched well v. the Angels in the 2005 ALDS (1.35 ERA).

I think NY should just sign Lackey & Chapman. then bring Pettitte & Matsui back on 1-year deals, sign Cameron to patrol CF on a 1-year and move Melky to left. Then get a bullpen arm...Soriano?

Stay away from trades, and stay away from a multiyear Damon deal. Signing Lackey forces Boston to throw away their young prospective talent.
