Great post, Chad. Not sure if ALL of the trades worked in the Yankees' favor, but certainly a nice summary of the year's moves.

I did say he could be that if he reaches every bit of his potential, but I don't necessarily mean he would be a clone of Hunter. I don't think it is unreasonable to think Ajax could average 18-25 HRs, which is less than Hunter, and reach Hunter's 801 career OPS. If everything goes right for him.

Jackson is not an offensive version of Hunter and he doesn't need to be. He's more of a right handed version of Damon. He's not going to be a 25 homer type hitter.

The best Gardner could ever be is a lower rated version of Brett Butler, if he ever figures out that he's not a power hitter. Those three early home runs were the worst thing that ever happened to him.

GREAT POST CHAD!

When are the Winter Meetings?

All this talk about Granderson is blue sky IMHO. He would be an upgrade over any outfielder on the team however.
No way the Yankees go into the season with both Gardy and Melky in the same starting OF.

I think, and most scouts seem to think, that Ajax has the power, it is just a matter of time until he unlocks it. Gardner is what he is, there is nothing wrong with that.

It's just that Ajax has the kind of ability to be maybe Torii Hunter if he max's out, or maybe Gary Matthews Jr if he doesn't. Gardner's peak may be Mickey Rivers-type. Nothing wrong with that, the Yankees won 2 WS with him in center, just depends on what you are looking for.

You're right. He can't replace Damon's offense.

I did think, and stated before the season, that it would have been great to see Gardner show that he could be a replacement for Damon in the leadoff spot. I said that, of course, before they flip-flopped him and Jeter.

But, I thought that if Gardner could how the ability to handle ML pitching, and take the reins, that the Yankees could afford to let Damon walk and have Gardner in the outfield at least as a stopgap until Ajax was ready. However, I don't think Gardner showed enough last year to give anybody confidence that he is any kind of replacement for Damon. He still frequently looks overmatched in all phases of the game, and the Yankees are left looking for a legit big league outfielder.
