"Betsey:
I thought it a shame today that on a day where Jeter was honored by SI, both Joel Sherman and Michael Kay had to criticize the decision. Kay and his bozo cohorts La Greca and Bonnie Bernstein (how I hate her) basically asked what qualifications Jeter had to win it? Sure, he had a great year and he’s a good guy, but Mauer probably gives to charity and he dominated his sport at his position; Mo is a great guy, Jimmy Johnson (sorry, please – Nascar?) had a great year. Those are the names they brought up,…… I’m no pollyanna, but Jeter is a worthy choice – I just don’t get why people have a problem with his selection."

Michael Kay has become an old lady over the past two years - he bashes the Yankees on his radio show, then kisses their butts on YES and in person, and whines about everything....such a phoney - and I agree about Bonnie Bernstein - not a good addition to his show - LaGreca is a Mets fan, so I'm not surprised.....

Al Oliver, what a great swing.....All those players mentioned =, especially Ron Santo & Andre Dawson, to which I cannot understand how those two great players are not in Cooperstown...You can make a solid andvalid point on the others, but Dawson and Santo cries for some type of investigation.......I think Randy I, played with Al Oliver in the Senior league

That's the advantage of having a dog or the twins being here so much. I can blame them for typos.

GB, Fort Meters, I think the KC Royals played there..I’m certain because Frank White robbed me of a 9th inning hit there in a FSL game…..Talk about a really good 2nd sacker..Although I always though Willie Randolph was the better skilled ballplayer…..

Yeah, the Royals played there years ago, then moved up to Haines City on US 27 to Baseball World.

Stop acting like you were picked on. Frank white wasn't particular. He robbed everyone. He was like Lou whittacker...the Ozzie Smiths of 2nd basemen. Writers never gave them much credit, but, other players and managers did. Along with Santo, Gawson, John, Kaat, Blyleven and Trammell, they should have been in the HOF years ago. A case could be made for Al Oliver, too.

MikeinBH, the economy has things going slow. The various teams have their plans, but are waiting till the big teams make their opening move(s). Once a team makes a signing or trade then things will get cooking.
The Indians have said that they were probably going to fill in spots from their farm system. Other teams may be thinking along the same way in an effort to curb spending.

Next season is going to see a bigger downturn in ticket sales due to the economy not recovering and unemployment at near 17%. Last year the economy was shaky, but unemployment wasn't nearly as high. As a result the attendance at games wasn't as affected as this coming season will be.

The market still will have to be determined by the bigger FAs out there as well. That gives a baseline for all the other players.
