A few links before Cashman
The beat writers are scheduled to meet with Brian Cashman in five minutes. I’ll be back soon with updates from that session, but until then…
The Daily News is contradicting earlier reports that Andy Pettitte has turned down an offer from the Yankees. The News writes that the Yankees will make their first offer at some point today. A source told the paper, “They don’t intend to low-ball him.”
Speaking of The Daily News, two good items from Mark Feinsand’s blog. 1. Feinsand is hearing the player to be named later in the Brian Bruney trade might be the Nationals first overall pick in the Rule 5 draft. 2. Chien-Ming Wang’s agent says Wang will be ready to pitch by May 1.
One last item, Marc Carig is reporting that the Yankees will meet with Mark DeRosa’s agent.

Good news. Andy deserves to be treated with much more respect. He has really learned how to pitch with what he now can deliver. He’s become a much more refined pitcher. He’s not trying to blow people away just using his control, offspeed stuff to the max. He could pitch like this for a couple of more years.
gossip, gossip, gossip. Andy will be fine with us.
we made that mistake with Andy once.
Twice we are the fool.
Too many rumors.
Nick Pietruszkiewicz:
From Peter Gammons: To get Curtis Granderson, the Tigers asked the Cubs for Starlin Castro and two prospects. The Cubs considered that to be too high a price.

COUGH…GAG….GARRRRRR…..
jcrasnick: Joe Nelson went 3-0 w/a 4.02 ERA in 42 games with Tampa Bay in ’09. He also played HS hoops in California with Jason Kidd.

dood is old!
No chance Wang’s ready to pitch by May – that’s his agent trying to dangle a carrot to hopefully get the Yankees to tender him a deal.
Chad – any idea who is available in the Rule V draft that the Yankees are so high on?

Pass.
Buster Olney’s source must be Peter Gammons.
Erin – great minds think alike.
As usual, there is a Yankee tax on everything— even from Cash’s good buddy Dombrowski.

The Tigers aren’t that crazy. They’re hoping for Jackson but will probably end up with less.
So who is Buster’s source?
Agreed Phil.
The Tigers would gladly ‘settle’ for Jackson + Kennedy
Similar to asking for NJ and Soriano, but taking Cassey Fossum and Brandon Lyon..
Seesh, hope Alex Anthropologist is more reasonable about Halladay.
Unless Washington moves another player off of their 40 man roster, they won’t be getting any picks in the Rule 5 Draft.
I hope Wang is a member of the 2010 Yankees.
kannedy+jackson for granderson seems fair and I think the yankees should make that trade if they can
Pass on Granderson for Hughes OR Jackson…or IPK for that matter.

Good one!
Plenty of crappy players to move (ie DFA) off the Nats roster.
Wang’s agent must think the Yankees are stupid if they are going to believe that. I’m guess he knows they wont but has to say that stuff anyways.
I am all about giving Wang another go for decent pay….but come on dude.
Why would they even send Jackson? Granderson’s no Halladay.
Yikes.. I think Ajax and Kennedy is a little steep
“So who is Buster’s source?”
He was on the elevator with two 5th graders.. one was wearing a detroit hat and told his friend that it would take A-Rod and Jeter to pry Granderson away… Buster decided that he would make the rumor more believable.
I hate how GM’s insist on players from teams according to their where they rank on that team, and not how those players abilities compare to other players. It’s absurd.
Duckshire’s available now…
Tigers re-signed Adam Everett.

I don’t. Kennedy is bottom rotation fodder.
I like buster but he’s not very accurate in his reporting
You can’t spend too many chips on Granderson, then we won’t have as much for Doc.
Buster is good with solid news, but surprisingly poor with the abstract.
I like Kennedy. you wait he will have a better career as a starter than joba will.. Sorry jobamaniacs..

I have to agree with blakes, and disagree with Kennedy being bottom rotation fodder. Though he may turn out to be, i think he has been and will continue to put up good numbers in the minors and can be used as part of a much bigger deal.
The Yankees don’t need Doc.We already have an ace+ wouldn’t you rather root for a team with homegrown players like hughes and joba
Why wouldn’t Detroit demand Hughes/Jackson?
It’s called negotiation. It is up to them to find a common ground.

I think Granderson is a big deal. He has leadoff ability and GG defense at a premium position.
Rays would offer B.J. Upton and Wade Davis for Halladay
http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/.....onday.html
Kennedy’s problem is his position on the depth chart. Especially if we sign another pitcher besides Andy.
If he’s traded to another team, I think he’ll do well. Put him on the back end of an AL rotation or the middle of a NL rotation and he’ll be just fine.
I think someone mentioned earlier that Kennedy’s trade value will be quite high by the trade deadline.
They may be correct. I think he’ll anchor that Scranton staff and rack up the K’s. Teams will call about him, or he could even be part of a big trade.
Granderson is miscast as a leadoff man and we have to hope his D bounces back.
Kruk just said the Yankees should give up Joba and Hughes even for 1 year of Halladay. How does he have a job?
any idea if rule 5 picks can be traded unlike regular draft picks? also if the nat’s take a guy can they even trade him as he would need to stay on the 25 man all year? would he need to stay on the yanks 25 man all year? it’s outside the box i will say that
“Granderson is miscast as a leadoff man and we have to hope his D bounces back.”
There is nothing wrong with his defense.

=============================
Anti-Yankee commentator. Simple as that.
Kruk is nuts.
Rosenthal has been stealing swigs out of Gammon’s bottle of Jack Daniel’s, again. He’d better be careful. That stuff will stunt his growth.
Holy Hannah!!! It’s too late, Ken.
No a Rule 5 pick can’t be traded…However the Yankees will tell them who to take and then that player will be named as the PTBNL from the deal.
craw,
his UZR has been declining. Might have to do with injury, but it needs to get back where it was.
Hey – If the Rays want to give up all that for 1 yr of Halladay, I’m all for it.
That would be GREAT for us… we’ll get him as a FA next year and our chief rival would have given up 2 big pieces of their team for a rental and won’t be as strong in 2011.
Upton would be enticing to anyone. But im not sure Tampa is the contender Roy is looking for.

totally agree. if it doesn’t, he is far less valuable than people anticipate.
“craw,

How much of a decline because I live in Michigan and watch a lot of Tigers games and I didn’t notice any decline in his defensive ability.
I just want to know what package Igawa’s going to be in? Seriously. When is Cash going to call it like it is. A loss. Must be the most expensive minor leaguer ever. Wonder if the Nationals will take him along with Bruney if we pay for the flight.
roger,
Would love to cheer for players like Joba or Hughes. But Doc’s one of the best pitchers in baseball.
I don’t see how there could be buyer’s remorse when you’re talking about Doc.
Just came up with a fabulous trade idea. Yankees trade their Tampa minor league team to the Jays for Roy Halladay.
Yanks get to keep the big three. Jays get a whole team of prospects who the Yankees won’t miss anyway because they’re getting Roy frickin Halladay! Roy gets to pitch near Tampa on his off days.
Win, win, win situation. Cmon Cash, get it done!

Are you going to believe what you see, or, what some amazing, all-knowing formula tells you to believe?
Yankees in on Kelvim Escobar
http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/.....cobar.html
Joba and Hughes? That’s gotta be a typo. I can understand either/or but not both.
BJ Upton is not all that, kiddies. Great, great fielder. Had a tough year recovering from injuries. And he’ll be due for a payday soon?
People want to send certain players and keep certain players. Buyer beware! (except for Halladay of course. they’re just trying to get a good package knowing that he’s as good as gone.
)

GB, is that a trick question?
raymagnetic,
I like where your going with this. Can we add Igawa’s name to that list just to make it an offer they cant refuse?
im not a big granderson fan. very streaky and cant hit leftys at all. please dont trade for him. id much rather have Damon
Toronto is already stuck having to sell low on Halladay since he’s a 1 year rental. Why would they trade him within the AL East and have him dominate the Jays in front of the fans on top of that?
Roy Halladay, will not be traded to the Yankees this offseason.
GB-
Haha, I knew you would jump in on that.
“Are you going to believe what you see, or, what some amazing, all-knowing formula tells you to believe?”
I’m old school like yourself so I take these defensive metrics with a grain of salt.
Seattle would take Igawa.
Can we trade Igawa and someone else for Brandon Morrow?

Nah. Just trying to see if the UZR Truthers get their panties in a wad, again.
Cashman’s priorities: “Pitching, pitching, pitching & then LF”
Paging Juan Miranda…please pick up the largest bat you can find and commence swinging.
Brett,
He has a no trade clause and has said he doesnt want to be traded midseason. Not many players for Roy. Just heard on the radio here in socal today that Mccort is giving the power for making decisions on the dodgers to someone else. He is in a divorse and could care less right now. Angels are fighting Seattle to keep their own. Boston is too damn cheap. Mets are the Mets. That leaves us.

LMAO. Sorry….just couldn’t let it pass without thowing a dig.

=========
Brandon Morrow? Hell i would trade Igawa for a player to be named on 2 years. Maybe even a playstation 3(not what the owners of the mariners manufacture.whatever it is, ill take one of those).
I understand Roy has a NTC but he also isn’t demand a trade to soley one team. He submitted a list. The Jays have choices when it comes to keeping him out of the AL East. What they don’t have a choice in is that he’s a 1 year rental.
Can we trade Igawa and Eric Duncan for Ichiro.
To think Eric Duncan was our #1 prospect at one time.
How good does it feel 7/8 years later to know we can actually pull a trigger on a trade if we wanted to. I couldnt stand listening to trade rumors years ago and having to listen to all experts say “the yankees dont have much to give”. Therefore all we had is money for free agents. Good times fellas. No matter who we get.
“No chance Wang’s ready to pitch by May – that’s his agent trying to dangle a carrot to hopefully get the Yankees to tender him a deal.”
Yanks or any team could requests Wang’s medicals and have their doctors concur with Wang’s agent.
