I am not happy with this trade. Not because of Granderson -- I pushed for getting him back in November and am happy to have him on the team, as long as he understands up front that he needs to [1] cut way down on the strikeouts, and [2] get better against lefties. I believe Granderson's capable of doing that.

What bugs me is that the Yanks effectively did a 3-for-1 trade for Granderson. Cash should have held out for a prospect or a PTBNL, doesn't matter from whom, in addition to Granderson. I know Sam doesn't think they paid too much -- but I disagree.

Cash said that pitching was his very top priority. Yet he has now traded away three pitchers. Seems strange.

It's hard for me to evaluate the Granderson trade, because Granderson declined so much between 2007 and 2009. We just don't know what we'll get in 2010 and going forward. FWIW my guess is Granderson will swing for the fences even more in Yankee Stadium. I predict 30+ HRs, but an OBA of .310 of so.

Highlight film showing Granderson jumping and reaching over th CF wall to take a homer away, hit off Verlander. When’s the last time you’ve see a Yankee OF’er make that play??

____

Melky taking away Manny's shot in 2006.

Matsui taking away a homer against the Red Sox behind the Big Unit in the first game of 2005.

This is a good deal. Jackson has potential but getting Granderson is a plus. His contract is also very reasonable. Yankees get strong defense and power in cf. I wish Austin the best. He is a good kid. Coke and Kennedy were not gonna be deal breakers.

Granderson strikes out every 4.17 at bats. Figgins strikes out every 5.85 at bats.
Granderson is awful against lefties. Figgins, as a switch hitter, doesn't have that problem.

Granderson: career avg. 272
Figgins: career avg 291

Jeremy, if I cared to go further and point out how much less Figgins swings and misses, how many more pitches he sees per at bat (a trait the Yankees love), and how much better he is on the basepaths...you'd be buried.

Jeremy you also said:
"The point is that those prospects that were traded aren’t going to be that good."

That sounds like the boldest of all assumptions. Oh wait, you know for a fact what the careers of Kennedy and Jackson hold right? It's always the idiots who start the personal confrontations

I was looking at Grandersons stolen bases numbers. I was shocked to see that he only had 20 last year and 12 the prior. I thought he was a speedster? Did they just not like to send him in Detroit with all the hitters behind him?

Personally I think IPK & AJ are very good, but timing is bad for both of them. The Yanks are looking for spots to protect players ranked above IPK & Coke and AJ is not ready for 2010. So the Yankees get a stellar CF in Granderson and the ability to protect more prospects. This is a Win-Win for NY!

Also, unlike most of what I've heard, I like IPK & E Jackson in the NL with AZ. I mean really people, the NL is where Smoltz & Penny thrived at the end of last year & lower Yankee prospects did well with the Pirates. IPK & E Jackson will do great in AZ.

Also, I like what the Tigers got too! I wouldn't be surprised if Montero wasn't up at mid year as a reserve Catcher & full-time DH.
