Eric Duncan goes to Atlanta
A bit of minor league news while we’re waiting for an official announcement on the Yankees non-tender class of 2009.
Former first-round pick Eric Duncan has signed a minor league deal with the Atlanta Braves. When I talked to Duncan a few days ago, he was close to a deal but it wasn’t finished. He’s expecting to be assigned to Triple-A Gwinnett. The Braves could use Duncan as a corner utility man, using him at first, third, left field and designated hitter, kind of like he was used this year in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The Braves previously re-signed another third baseman, Wes Timmons, to a minor league deal.
The latest list of Baseball America minor league transactions also has word on Josh Towers going to the Dodgers, T.J. Beam to the Diamondbacks and Chad Moeller to the Orioles. But we already knew about those. Otherwise, unless I overlooked it, no other Yankees free agents are listed.
The only Yankees signing mentioned is outfielder Jon Weber, but we already knew that one as well.
Meanwhile, while I’m waiting for the Yankees’ non-tender announcement, I’m once again watching the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame concert on HBO. While I was typing this post, Metallica started playing Enter Sandman.
Somewhere, a baseball game must be ending.

It’s funny yesterday, DOA was on and one of the key character’s name was Halladay. Yankeenicity.
I’m due for a dinner engagement and if I don’t leave my steak is going to be non-tendered, but I’ll be checking for updates as I can.
No news is good news?
Keep the faith.

White smoke means tender?
Dark smoke means not tender?
Or is it the other way around?
_____________
The Yankees send out pinstriped smoke for tender, gray for non-tender. lol.
Nothing like adding some tension to the tenderization process.
Come on Yanks the fans want to know the Wanginator’s status.

Funniest post ever!!!!!
That was a great concert! I personally loved the Simon and Garfunkle segment but I had to watch Metallica doing “Enter Sandman”…how great was it that they showed a Mo montage during the beginning of the song?!?!
Is there an 11 pm deadline? Will watch for pin-striped smoke.
Midnight deadline, about 90 minutes away.
Former Yankee here! Hi everyone! Goodnight folks!
I remember you. Good night, Mike.
Sory I asked this before but new thread. Does any one know if Cervelli has a option left on his contract for this year? Also if any one has heard any thing regarding Conor Jackson ? He would be a great fit for us. Thanx
Of course Cervelli has options left.
How can we find out definitively? There seems to be a difference of opinion on any option for Cervelli.
Phil
Thanx,I had read from other comments that he didn,t . Just was trying to figure out if we needed another catcher for the year. Just making sure.
he was a September addition in`08 and up and down in `09. They put him on the 40 in the `07 offseason.
Cody Ransom has signed a minor league contract with the Phillies, and has an invite to spring training.
As Phil stated, he has at least one option year left.
Well, I hope Cervelli has an option left, would certainly hamstring us if he didn’t.
59 minutes und counting.
Yanks officially non-tender Wang.
Maybe they are having trouble clearing the chimney… Darn Santa got to the Yanks early.
I realy want to keep Gaudin To.
Cash says he hopes they can continue their relationship.
Cashman: “….We are still hopeful that our relationship can continue, but those decisions are yet to be made.”

Finally Davidoff announces Wang nontendered on twitter
Sigh.
Hope something can be worked out going forward…
A few years ago, I wrote on here, my own blog, and on other places that Eric Duncan would never make it. I got blasted for telling the truth. I saw him at Trenton and SWB and said he’d be another Drew Henson but without the football option that Henson had. All I did was write the truth, that Eric wouldn’t make it. Nothing against Eric, but I was right.
Hey Sac Fly,
Haven’t seen your name in here.
Just wanted to say welcome to this blog.
All questions here are good questions. Fire away – someone’s bound to answer you without editorializing.
Happy Holidays
Mike,
so?
Took him all day to draft that tweet?
Should’ve just stopped at “We are still hopeful that our relationship can continue”
The good news is that no one else will offer Wang a guaranteed major league contract of any significance. And he will have to rehab somewhere. Keeping the fingers crossed that he’ll want to do it with the Yankees.
What does that mean? He’ll continue to send Wang a Christmas card – even though he’s probably a Buddhist?
Get him signed!
Keeping the fingers crossed that he’ll want to do it with the Yankees.

Do you want a cookie or something?
It means if WANG WILL ACCEPT A MINOR LEAGUE DEAL.
Congratulations, Mike. You made a good call. What else you got?
Bodhi

Wow, let me be the first to offer my apology.
My prediction is that you suffer from a bit of status anxiety.
Alexei Kovalev scores his 400th. Molodyets!
LOL.
The mere notion of status on a board of anonymous posters offers a bit of irresistible irony.
With the St. Louis Dispatch giving one of the notices that Wang was being non-tendered, it made me think that the Cards were at least interested in him.
I still wonder what took so long. Parties? Dinner and a movie? Maybe they were trying to work some type of agreement out, but fell short?
I hope things go well for him. Wang is had been very good for us Yankee fans.
Catcher Raul Chavez only player nontendered by Jays.
PeteAbe says:Wang motivated to come back for league minimum deal.
Pete is his biographer!
Good Luck Eric. I always had high hopes for him because he grew up and went to school right around my area and was a year older than me.
