Spring training tickets on sale this morning

Posted by: Chad Jennings - Posted in Misc on Jan 15, 2010 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

Just a friendly reminder from the LoHud Yankees Blog…

Yankees spring training tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. ET over at the Yankees official site. For those of you who have never been to spring training, I highly recommend it. George M. Steinbrenner Field is a cool place to watch all sorts of baseball, including the occasional bullpen session and maybe a bit of batting practice on the side field.

If you can’t get a ticket to Tampa, the Yankees are playing three spring games against the Phillies in nearby Clearwater, and that’s also a terrific place to watch a game (my first three spring trainings were spent around that park).

———

While you’re waiting to order tickets — or just killing time in the office — let me recommend the latest Dirk Hayhurst entry at Baseball America. Hayhurst never says exactly who he’s writing about, but I think you’ll be able to guess.

I am guessing Roy Halladay simply b/c this guy Hayhurst pitched as a rookie for the Blue Jays last year. Pretty lame read though.

  2. Tony January 15th, 2010 at 9:27 am

    Rivera?

  3. Rishi January 15th, 2010 at 9:30 am

Tony – that is totally what I was thinking – but I think that’s being a Yankee fan :) I think Halladay is probably the right answer…

  4. MTU January 15th, 2010 at 9:30 am

    his “Mo-ness” :)

That was my first thought too! :)

  6. Tony January 15th, 2010 at 9:32 am

    Rishi-

yeah it was my clear initial reaction but on second thought, the guy’s never played in the NYY organization so I guess it’s just my awe inspiring respect for Mo clouding my judgement haha

  7. Zooboy January 15th, 2010 at 9:32 am

    Gotta be Pavano. No doubt.

I am guessing Halladay, but it certainly could apply to Mo as well.

  10. raymagnetic January 15th, 2010 at 9:41 am

He’s talking about BJ Ryan. Duh!!!

kate, once I read it again I realized it was Hallady-I’m just so biased for the Yankees that Mo was the first person I thought of! ;)

  12. B.Stanley January 15th, 2010 at 9:52 am

I thought Halladay too but then read the part about the “celebratory drinks” again. Why would the Jays be celebrating?

  13. T-Bone January 15th, 2010 at 9:59 am

It’s Halladay. The Jays were probably celebrating a win a get-away day, flying to the next city. Halladay was preparing. Hayhurst wouldn’t be on a plane with Rivera.

    That article’s about the Doctor.

I hope his pitching is better than his writing.

I’m jealous!! My goal is to make it down there next year.

How many games are you going to?

  18. GeorgeInJax January 15th, 2010 at 10:17 am

No spring training for me this year, tickets are just getting to steep. By the time I drive 200 miles each way, Get a hotel room, Meals, & then have to pay $40 per ticket to watch prospects. I love the experience, but I’ll pass this year & use the money for MLB pass to watch all the Yankee games since they are out of market for me.

Very cool. I’ll be anxious to hear how your experience was. I’ll probably have lots of questions for you so I can get a good idea for next year.

  22. blake January 15th, 2010 at 10:26 am

If the Tigers sign Damon, would they DH him? I mean I can’t see Johnny roaming the acreage in that ballpark.. why would the tigers trade Granderson to cut payroll and then turn around and spend on a closer and an old outfielder… I don’t see it.

Thank you for the “heads-up”. We purchased our tickets for the March 13th game against the Orioles. We live 2 1/2 hours north of Tampa in Gainesville, Fl. In Gainesville, all people talk about is amateur sports — the Gators, particularly Gator football and to a lesser extent Gator basketball.

  25. Y's Guy January 15th, 2010 at 10:40 am

current tigers depth chart lists ajax in cf guillen and ordonez sharing lf/rf/dh and wilkin ramirez, ryan rabern and clete thomas filling in the other spots. this is really weak, especially if ajax needs time to adjust to mlb. so there is a place for damon, but a lf of damon/guillen in comerica would be tragic.

the real question is why they let granderson go with no real replacements ready.

  26. Erin January 15th, 2010 at 10:43 am

    Thanks Uncle E!!

  27. Jimbo January 15th, 2010 at 10:48 am

Hayhurst came up with SD in 08 so perhap it cold be Hoffman?

  28. Yanksgal07 January 15th, 2010 at 10:49 am

He says in the article that he is heading for the “visitor’s entrance” and in my opinion there is only one player he could be talking about especially when he uses the word humble …it’s Mo !!!

    Go Yankees 2010 !!!

  29. Yanksgal07 January 15th, 2010 at 10:50 am

He’s talking about the visitor’s entrance at his ballpark …that is …not Yankee Stadium

    Go Yankees 2010 !!

  30. austinmac January 15th, 2010 at 10:54 am

I read that Sheets is throwing for teams next week. I don’t see the Yankees having any interest since acquiring Vasquez. Has anyone heard whether the Yankees will be in attendance?

  31. Frank January 15th, 2010 at 10:55 am

“If the Tigers sign Damon, would they DH him? I mean I can’t see Johnny roaming the acreage in that ballpark”

You’d have to think that he, Ordonez and Guillen would all get a decent amount of DH’ing in.

  32. Yanksgal07 January 15th, 2010 at 10:55 am

I reread the article and now I’m confused …I thought he was taking the sweets to the visitor’s dugout in his stadium…but ..it still sounds like Mo to me…so it will be Mo at least for me !!! :o )

    Go Yankees 2010 !!!

  33. vinny-b (NJ and Granderson - thank you Cashman!) January 15th, 2010 at 11:01 am

wonder if Reed Johnson is talking to any team.

of all the LF candidates, all factors considered i like him as a fit on the roster.

  34. blake January 15th, 2010 at 11:04 am

Over at RAB, they have a discussion about a possible Gaudin / Conor Jackson swap. Jackson will make 3.1 million next year and still has a lot of upside, hits right handed, and isn’t too bad in LF.

Doesn’t sound like too bad an option to me if the Dbacks would go for it.

  35. vinny-b (NJ and Granderson - thank you Cashman!) January 15th, 2010 at 11:15 am

    does Conor Jackson play LF?

  36. Erica - always OPPC - Bring Back Johnny!!!! January 15th, 2010 at 11:16 am

When does the pinch hitting series start on LoHud???

The news has been so slow, that I am really looking forward to it

    Know who plays LF?????????

    Johnny Damon!

  38. John in Ohio January 15th, 2010 at 11:16 am

The subliminal use of “bible” immediately made me think “Mo”.

But that makes no sense. Why would this guy be traveling with Mo?

    I’m guessing Greg Maddux.

  39. blake January 15th, 2010 at 11:17 am

Vinny, yes he plays LF and 1b and he’s 27 with still quite a bit of upside.

Do you have your essay on your pretend relationship with Johnny Damon ready? ;)

  41. upstate kate January 15th, 2010 at 11:22 am

    Erica
I keep thinking as long as he hasn’t signed elsewhere, and as long as the Yankees haven’t signed another LF, there is still a chance :)

  42. upstate kate January 15th, 2010 at 11:23 am

would that be a real essay or a pretend essay?

  44. braeden January 15th, 2010 at 11:28 am

In his haste to trade Halladay to keep him from the Yankees, Alex Anthopoulos *still needs to trade for pitching.* He’s looking at Sheets, but doesn’t think he’ll get him. This after having the most valuable pitcher available, that he gave away for prospects, and 6m. “stoopid!”

Matters none to me, with Halladay the Jays finished 28 games behind, this year it’ll be 45!

  45. Rishi January 15th, 2010 at 11:29 am

  46. Frank January 15th, 2010 at 11:29 am

    “does Conor Jackson play LF?”

He does this year. LaRoche signing pushes him to left for the Snakes this year.

  47. cameron January 15th, 2010 at 11:38 am

So the Tigers are talking to Boras about Damon.
Here’s another opportunity for a team to stand firm against Boras, with no market for his client, and let’s see if they drink the Boras koolaid. They trade Granderson (salary dump) for a 36 yrs OF?

  48. ML January 15th, 2010 at 2:57 pm

Everyone’s thinking Halladay, but he was in SD in 08. So I agree with John in Ohio that it’s probably Maddux. I guess it could be halladay, but it just sounds like Maddux to me.

Chad, can you clarify? It sure doesn’t seem obvious to us!
