Spring rotation announced, Gaudin gets opener
In Joe Girardi’s spring training office, one wall is covered by a massive dry-erase board configured into a calendar. It’s been fairly blank since camp opened, but this afternoon is was covered with players initials, outlining the Yankees rotation for the first 11 spring training dates.
Andy Pettitte will not pitch in a game until March 12, but he will throw a simulated game in Tampa on March 7th.
The Yankees have not announced which relievers will be pitching each day. The first time through, their starters will be limited to roughly 35 pitches.
The first name listed is that day’s starter. The other names will pitch in relief.
March 3 vs. Pittsburgh
Chad Gaudin, Sergio Mitre, Alfredo Aceves
March 4 at Philadelphia
CC Sabathia
March 5 vs. Tampa Bay
Phil Hughes, Joba Chamberlain

The 1st and 3rd games are on Mlb network so well get to see Phil and Joba throw.
Blake-
Do you know if any of these games are on MLB.com ?
1. Interesting that Gaudin and Mitre open up. I know that the big guys are getting a more relaxed schedule this spring, but, still, I wonder if this is also a bit of an early showcase for potential trade partners.
2. Interesting comment last post about a LoHud blog iPhone app. I’d go for it.
3. Betsy – I heard about the threat of another storm for Wednesday. It had better not linger and delay my Friday morning flight to Tampa. I would not be a happy Yankee fan.
god, i can’t wait
MTU,
I subscribe to MLB.TV and I got a letter that they are going to start billing my card on March 1 so I’m assuming the ST games will be on there….

So Joba/Hughes first game is televised, as is AJ’s -yay!
Joe, are you going to ST? That’s great – I expect some great stories from you!
Evidently Mitre won’t lose his position on the 40 man roster to make room for Park.
BTW how do the rules work? If some player is removed, does that mean he immediately can be signed by another team? Would he be available in order of worst teams first via a waiver process? I assume the Yanks will have to put Park on the 40-man roster as soon as they sign him, which I guess means that he hasn’t been formally signed. Is his signing still awaiting a physical? Does anyone have a good guess as to who will be removed to make room for Park?
Just looking at the schedule for the season…..
They have 47 road games before the AllStar break this year including 3 West coast trips (April-LAA/Oak, June-LAD/Ariz, July-Seatle/Oak). After the break the farthest trip is 1 Texas/KC series and another trip to Texas hooked onto a Tampa series.
Tough travel first half of the season but more home games and less jet lag the 2nd half.
I haven’t seen this mentioned here but its worth announcing-
CBS 101.1 is having a contest where if you listen for a certain song during the day and you are the right caller you win a 3 day trip to Tampa for Yankee spring training when “Johnny Damon and the Tigers” (as they call it – sniff sniff) come to town.
They have a really cool Yankee promo with Nick Swisher.
Pat, thanks! That’s like the Sox schedule last year – I like it. Good teams will still overcome, but still – I like being home for much of the 2nd half.
Chad, I assume that you will be in Tampa for most, if not all of the ST games. Could you find out about Romine’s high rate of interference calls, what if anything the the coaching staff knows or is trying to fix?

It’ll be interesting to see if Ian Kennedy gets one of the Arizona starts against the Yankees and Mitre gets one of the Dodger starts against the Yanks.

Technically, no. But working Saturday is very political. And everyone notices when I am not there on Saturdays because I am the jerk who orders the pizza for the office. LOL.
But I hit my hourly requirement and I wasn’t feeling so rundown all week. So I decided to skip it. If anyone has issues, I’ll just offer to take extra work next week and worry about it then.

I am not sure I ever want to be a partner. We have like 40 partners in my firm. Three are women. And only one of them has children. Its not easy.
I am also probably at least 7-10 years away from that point and Johnny will no doubt be out of baseball

That was an Ernie clip???!!! OK, must watch…
Bodh, I blame Erin for not warning us, lol. Sorry, my first reaction (even though it apparently was minor) really WAS OMG.. Erin, j/k!
The Post reported it this morning so beat writers probably asked.
Mark Feinsand even went into full Inspector Clouseau mode and called the Tampa Police to get a copy of the accident report.
The Yankee beat writers must be really BORED this year.
Erica, you’re welcome! I didn’t even finish watching the clip; I was watching it as I read Erin’s post and I clicked out of You Tube and onto Kernan’s twitter. Glad to see that Ernie hit one out……..now if only Charlie Brown could do that.
Tala, thanks! I’m off to check out the stories…
I apologize to everyone for causing mass panic about Alex’s car accident. I am very sorry. He is fine!! I repeat, he is fine!!
Mariano Rivera never travels on the road games in March and stays back in Tampa to get his work in. Usually 8-10 relief appearances at home and he’s ready for the season.
Alex is another Pavano – he didn’t even tell Cash about it, lol (kidding, just kidding!)…..
I don’t know why the headline has to include the price and type of car Alex was driving; what’s the difference if he was driving that car or a Big Wheels?

Ernie & Bert and baseball, two of my favorite things
I hope Alex gets checked out anyway as even the slightest hit in a car can throw your neck/back/muscles out of joint

Yeah, but, you’ve got to agree that it’s more original than most of the conflict stories we get.
Girardi still undecided on his lineup. Said the 2, 5-6-7 spots were up in the air, so it’s Jeter-?-Teixeira-ARod-?-?-?-Swisher-Winn/Gardner

pat, if they can decide on the 2 and 5 spots, the 5 and 7 spots will be no issue. If it’s Granderson @ #2 and Cano @ #5. I’d think that it’s Posada and Johnson at 6-7.

BloggingBombers The guess here is that Johnson bats second, and the 5-6-7 are Granderson, Posada and Cano, which splits up the lefties.

Couple of quick observations. Joba and Phil are pitching same day. Aceves has a day to himself. Gaudin and Mitre are on 4 days. I wonder if Gaudin and Mitre are being show cased for a trade.
So is anyone else watching CNN and waiting for the tsunami to hit. (and feeling a bit sick for doing so?)

I’m not saying Ilitch didn’t overpay, because he did, and I never cease to be amazed that Boras gets more out of some men than a smoking hot chick, but Maddden is so hostile, you would think Ilitch spent his money.
New post.
With the question of who the 5th starter will be, I personally look foward to what the season will bring. Cashman is excited about the recent addition of Chan Ho Park as well as Curtis Granderson. I personally feel we replaced the supposive starter from 2009, Ching Meng Wang with Javier Vasquez and it will be up to Joba Chamberlain and Phill Hughes to solidify that last spot. Granderson will provide great speed along side of Gardner. Also, I see Granderson landing a spot in the top of the lineup, potentially taking the leadoff spot where Damon was last season.
