If they didn’t make fun of him it would be more in his head than it already is. These guys enjoy the names and the joking, you don’t want them ignoring the thing, that would make it just more weird.
The helmet is funny as hell so why not have some fun with it?
Man I’m at this game right now and the weather is brutal, I wish they’d make a decision already

I have only been to Vegas twice. Once in 2002 and last New Years. However, I would very much like to return for my next birthday in December. After two years in a row of blizzards on my birthday, I would like to spend my next one (which is a biggie) in the desert

Grrrr Im so upset the game is probably rained out. I know logically they should cancel bc its only ST, but I havent been able to watch a live game yet.
If the game gets rained out, this might be two in a row for the Yanks as the weather is supposed to be brutal tomorrow as well. Sam, what would AJ and Andy do in those cases? The other guys would probably be getting cabin fever….
AJ would pitch a simulated game indoors.
Rich, how do you do that? The indoors is big enough to contain a pitcher’s mound and a batters box? It can’t be big enough to contain a diamond, so how I guess I don’t understand how this could be done.

Well, he might get selfconcious about it. It wouldn’t hurt for someone to say “Don’t worry, it doesn’t look that bad” instead of “Hey, Gazoo!” I just wouldn’t want him end up not wearing it because he thinks he looks funny in it. Frankie needs to protect his noggin.

Rich, I’m not disputing that; I’m just saying I have no idea how a simulated game would work. I don’t have the tv on, so if they explained it, I missed it. Either way, it’s not as good as pitching in a regular game.

Obviously it won’t have the same intensity of an exhibition game, but the whole point of ST is to work on pitches and build up arm strength to get your pitch counts up. All that matters is that AJ gets his work in one way or another. Its too early in ST to worry about him getting off rotation or anything
A simulated game is throwing to a batter (or to an empty batters box), and simulating what would happen on every pitch. So, say the hitter hits the 2-2 pitch, they might rule it a single. Then, after 3 outs, he sits down for 10 minutes to simulate a batting inning, and they do it all over again.

It’s ludicrous to play this game. Too chancy for injuries.
Erica, Seth – thanks! As long as AJ can work on his change and gauge his progress, it will be fine. If he has to throw one tonight, I hope he fools all the Yankee hitters, lol (or at least the ones who will be recruited).

The weather down here is pretty bad. (I live in Clearwater, near Tampa) Constant rain, not heavy just constant. But huge wall clouds, we’ve had tornado watch which we rarely get. All in all pretty ugly indeed.
If it makes you Floridians feel any better, in NY we are supposed to get hit with 3-5 inches of rain over the weekend.
They said that if it were snow it would be between 36-60 inches!
