Tonight’s game canceled because of rain

Posted by: Sam Borden - Posted in Misc on Mar 11, 2010 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

Headed down to talk to Joe Girardi. A.J. Burnett will likely throw a simulated game inside to get his work in.

UPDATE, 8:11 p.m.: Yup, simulated game for Burnett. He’ll throw three “innings” of 18, 17 and 15 pitches, with rest in between each one (though there will be no hitters). Girardi and Dave Eiland also tweaked the travel roster for tomorrow to allow some of the guys who were supposed to pitch tonight the chance to throw. Dave Robertson, Royce Ring and Jonathan Albaladejo will now go on the trip; Wilkins Arias, Christian Garcia, D.J. Mitchell and Zack Segovia were taken off the travel list.

    It’s Jeter’s fault. ;)

Too bad…a simulated game is just not the same. I hope they will let AJ throw 3 innings (or his allotted amount of pitches) and that he can still work on his change.

That weather system is going to mess up the weekend up on Long Island, lol. I’m not looking forward to 50-60 MPH winds and possible flooding..

Simulated games are actually better than normal games.

  5. Betsy - Romine wasn't built in a day March 11th, 2010 at 7:57 pm

    LGY, how so?

  6. Nick in SF in Larkspur March 11th, 2010 at 7:58 pm

Will AJ close his eyes and simulate throwing to Jose Molina?

  7. Rich in NJ March 11th, 2010 at 8:00 pm

“Will AJ close his eyes and simulate throwing to Jose Molina?”

    That’s just wrong.

  8. LGY - Child Prodigy/GB7's Bestest Buddy March 11th, 2010 at 8:02 pm

Much closer to the real way baseball should be played, which of course would be on spreadsheets

  9. Betsy - Romine wasn't built in a day March 11th, 2010 at 8:03 pm

    sigh..

  10. Betsy - Romine wasn't built in a day March 11th, 2010 at 8:04 pm

Well anyway, I’d still like to get reports on how his change looked….

  11. m March 11th, 2010 at 8:06 pm

    Betsy,

Just call the dugout phone. :P

  12. LGY - Child Prodigy/GB7's Bestest Buddy March 11th, 2010 at 8:07 pm

    Did I disappoint you Betsy?

  13. Bodhisattva - Destiny Wears Pinstripes March 11th, 2010 at 8:07 pm

    Good.

I don’t want Jorge pulling another hammy running around the bases.

  14. m March 11th, 2010 at 8:09 pm

    LGY,

I thought it was an excellent joke. You were joking, right? :P

BTW, what’s your RAB handle? For the life of me I can’t figure out which one your are. All you statheads look the same. :P

  15. Bodhisattva - Destiny Wears Pinstripes March 11th, 2010 at 8:09 pm

    Nick in SF,

Nice story about the whale. I liked the Yankee cap stuff, too.

  16. Betsy - Romine wasn't built in a day March 11th, 2010 at 8:10 pm

No, not at all LGY – but obviously you were kidding about a simulated game being better than a real game. I sighed because although I adore Nick in SF, I don’t think AJ/Molina jokes are funny…

  17. Betsy - Romine wasn't built in a day March 11th, 2010 at 8:11 pm

M, I’ll just call 411 and maybe they’ll give me the info, lol. Darn…I always like reading reports on pitchers, etc… the next day and now there will be nothing.

  18. Holden March 11th, 2010 at 8:13 pm

Shudda called it much earlier. They knew, and could see the local radar, that it was to rain all late afternoon and throughout the evening.

Late weather calls cost a lot of people inconvenience- and a lot of money.

  19. m March 11th, 2010 at 8:15 pm

    Betsy,

On second thought, don’t call the dugout phone. Jorge usually answers it, and he won’t have nice things to say about AJ. :p :P :P

  20. Pat M. March 11th, 2010 at 8:16 pm

Nick in SF…..I’m telling you The Cal-Berkley Bears are streaking…I’ve had a great day so far, UCLA, Cal, Hoyas….Playing The Irish + 2…..

  21. Nick in SF in Larkspur March 11th, 2010 at 8:17 pm

Thanks, bodhi. It was a great experience.

Betsy, laughter is a mechanism that helps us release pain. And it’s easier to laugh when the story had a happy ending. Hopefully the memories of Jose’s eye hugs can still make AJ happy.

I cannot reveal my identity. It is part of Bill’s plan for us to post with different handles on each site in order to make it appear that our group is as large as possible.

    LGY -

    Too, too funny!!!

  24. m March 11th, 2010 at 8:23 pm

Bill? Is that a hint? haha.

Is this like V? Invasion of the Body Snatchers?

  25. m March 11th, 2010 at 8:25 pm

I wanted to see a game today, especially A.J. But it is nice and relaxed isn’t it? No chicken littles…yet.

  26. tampayank March 11th, 2010 at 8:25 pm

the weather is supposed to be ugly tomorrow too so not looking good for a game at 1pm

  27. LGY - Child Prodigy/GB7's Bestest Buddy March 11th, 2010 at 8:25 pm

To be honest there is only about 3-4 posters on RAB recently all posting with multiple handles. randy is a smart guy pointing out that there is a group think thing going on right now over there. Not smart enough though to figure out why.

  28. m March 11th, 2010 at 8:27 pm

I remember Rose, Mondesi, Tommy Carlos, Mike Axsia, and of course Rebecca.

I wish you guys would give Rebecca back. It’s like she’s been brainwashed. :(

Bill James. You must have missed the other night when I revealed that I am working with Bill James because he identified me as a sabermetric child prodigy.

  30. m March 11th, 2010 at 8:29 pm

Did you go to the Sports Analytic Conference at MIT?

  31. LGY - Child Prodigy/GB7's Bestest Buddy March 11th, 2010 at 8:30 pm

Contrary to popular belief I have actually posted here a lot more than at RAB during the offseason.

Speaking of Yankee caps, I posted the following from SFO at the beginning of my trip, a redeye to Mexico. It was very late at night, likely overlooked by most:

“Let the record further reflect that there is a flight to Taiwan departing from the gate next to mine.

I just did a thorough walk-through and counted a grand total of zero — ZERO!! — visible Yankee caps.
    And I’m rounding up!

Heck of a job, Cashman.

  34. Betsy March 11th, 2010 at 8:31 pm

ok, so this makes no sense to me. The players are already there; why not let AJ face hitters instead of throwing to no one? Why not let him pitch with Andy tomorrow instead of what they are doing now, which is not a simulated game – it’s a bullpen session.

  35. Bodhisattva - Destiny Wears Pinstripes March 11th, 2010 at 8:33 pm

    MTU,

    Sent.

  36. m March 11th, 2010 at 8:33 pm

    LGY,

I tease ray (Red Sox fan) that his biggest secret is he wears pinstriped boxers.

I think yours is you wear LoHud briefs. :P

  37. Jerkface March 11th, 2010 at 8:35 pm

oh now tease me about my underwear! this is so wildly inappropriate, I love it.

  38. LGY - Child Prodigy/GB7's Bestest Buddy March 11th, 2010 at 8:37 pm

    hahah

  39. Bodhisattva - Destiny Wears Pinstripes March 11th, 2010 at 8:37 pm

    Nick in SF,

    Probably burned them all.

  40. Bodhisattva - Destiny Wears Pinstripes March 11th, 2010 at 8:40 pm

    I prefer Henry James.

They don’t make James like they used to, do they?

    MTU,

    that’s one hurdle :D .

  41. The Ohta Faction March 11th, 2010 at 8:41 pm

A.J. just had a meltdown in the simulated game.

Good to see he’s already in mid-season form.

  42. Erica - always OPPC March 11th, 2010 at 8:41 pm

    Wrapping it up

  43. Nick in SF in Larkspur March 11th, 2010 at 8:41 pm

I did see a very pretty Chinese girl sporting a Yankee cap in Berkeley today — maybe all is not lost.
