Individual game tickets about to go on sale

Posted by: Chad Jennings - Posted in Misc on Mar 15, 2010 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

I literally get emails about this every day, so here’s the most recent thing I’ve heard.

Indications are that Yankees individual game tickets will go on sale Friday. I don’t have a time, but they will be available online at the Yankees official site and over the phone through Ticketmaster. They will go on sale at the box office on Monday.

Again, there’s nothing official just yet, but I heard this afternoon that Friday will probably be the day. That’s the plan, anyway.

Whenever the Yankees release something official about individual game tickets, I’ll be sure to have it on the blog. Until then, circle Friday. It sounds like that will be the day.

———

Also, just a reminder. Feel free to signup for LoHud’s NCAA Tournament Bracket Challenge. And feel free to pick the University of Missouri to upset West Virginia in the second round.

The pre-sale for season ticket holders is going on till 10PM tonight. Unless they held out some tix for the general public, the pickings are slim. I could not find 4 tickets seated together for any weekend games that were less than $300. And that includes games against Kansas City and Seattle.

It was funny that you can still buy $300 seats for every game, including the Red Sox. Personally, I hope those seats stay empty forever. It makes for a nice monument to all the long time fans who sat downstairs that the Yankees screwed.

My dad is also a Mizzou Journalism alum, but no way I’m picking the Tigers over the WV Huggie Bears.

I once met Quin Snyder’s fiancee shortly after he got the UM job. I hope they still lived happily ever after.

  3. Chad Jennings March 15th, 2010 at 6:19 pm

I covered Quin. Very, very smart man. I’m just not sure he knew how to coach non-Duke players.

  4. Nick in SF March 15th, 2010 at 6:23 pm

I was not aware that he also got both law and business post-grad degrees from Duke. Maybe people like that shouldn’t be dealing with mere mortals on a regular basis.

  5. Chad Jennings March 15th, 2010 at 6:26 pm

He did law school and business school at the same time — at Duke no less — while also playing semi-pro basketball. No joke. I’m telling you, the guy is off the charts intelligent.

  6. Nick in SF March 15th, 2010 at 6:32 pm

Perhaps, like Icarus, he flew too close to the sun… and tumbled down to the D league to coach Pops Mensah-Bonsu.

  7. Pat M. March 15th, 2010 at 6:33 pm

Nick in SF….I just throw $ 25.00 on The Cal- Berkley Bears to win the 2010 NCAA Championship @ 50-1

Davidoff made an interesting statement during the interview about Phil Hughes and how some in the industry have wondered if he is still mentally impacted by his May 1st, 2007 hamstring injury suffered in Texas. It was that night Hughes was working on a no hitter and left in the seventh inning after sustaining the injury.

It’s a fair point by Davidoff, as Hughes has yet to develop as a starter in the big leagues. I will say that he returned that season in August and pitched to a 4.65 ERA in 11 starts. I think the bigger hindrance to his development was the injury he sustained the following year which basically robbed him of a season of development. Hughes has yet to be given a full season in the rotation since he was called up in May of 07’.

    ****

This makes no sense; why would he still be mentally handicapped by his 2007 injury? The reason why he hasn’t developed completely is because he also missed most of 2008 and was shipped to the pen in 2009.

  9. Nick in SF March 15th, 2010 at 6:44 pm

Pat M, I hope you have a strategy to hedge that $25 bet… it could be settled before bedtime Friday night.

  10. m March 15th, 2010 at 6:54 pm

Anyone who thinks Phil is mentally handicapped is a mental midget. Seriously.

He’s dealt with setbacks with a grittiness you wouldn’t expect from his socio-economic background. (I kid, I kid).

Seriously, Phil’s the man. He’s oozing confidence right now, and that’s half the formula.

  11. Mitch March 15th, 2010 at 6:54 pm

    Attention Mr. Chamberlain :

2007 is long gone. Starting rotation spots are earned these days.
Being fan friendly, signing autographs, and waving to fans doesn’t cement anything.
Attack the strike zone and quit nibbling at the plate.

  12. Pat M. March 15th, 2010 at 6:54 pm

Nick in SF….I’m riding Cal, Georgetown, Gonzagaga & Villinova…25.00 on each…..If you see anything that lloks good to come Thursaday / Friday, do share….Lot’s of homework between now and then…..

  13. S.o.S. March 15th, 2010 at 7:01 pm

    Pat,
I see your going gaga over Gonzaga. I would go with another big east team in West Virginia. You cant go wrong with the big east though. I wish i knew for certain if Syracuse was healthy enough.

  14. Nick in SF March 15th, 2010 at 7:04 pm

‘Mentally impacted’ isn’t the same thing as ‘mentally handicapped’ but either way, it takes a ton of chutzpah for a baseball writer to think he can slip one past one of Phil’s LoHud PBMs!

  15. S.o.S. March 15th, 2010 at 7:05 pm

If the real Texas would stand up. I would pick them as my sleeper. But you can probably insert a half a dozen teams and make the same case for them.

  16. Jerkface March 15th, 2010 at 7:06 pm

A mental impact could cause a cavernous malformation.

I just completed one of my brackets.

I know nothing about NCAA basketball. I seemed to choose a lot of teams that start with “K”

  20. Nick in SF March 15th, 2010 at 7:11 pm

    Not very pc. ;)

I did my brackets and picked VIllanova to win it all. Last year I followed my whimsy to a risk factor over 80% and was out of it by the end of the first weekend. I don’t think I even had a single team in the semis. So, this year, I went strictly by the numbers to a 15% risk factor. There’ll probably be a ton of upsets!

  22. S.o.S. March 15th, 2010 at 7:13 pm

    Erica,
You remind me of the Peyton Manning SnL where hes on a show and some girl is picking brackets by how much she likes the name and colors? It was classic.

    Pat,
Texas would have to play as well as they did at the beginning of the season to get out of the east. The would probably have to beat Judd Wildcats, Cheese heads and the Big east tourny champs W.V.. No cake walk.

That is basically how I choose NFL games.

In my cummulative pool, I won money for coming in dead last 3 seasons in a row. Its actually really hard to be that bad.

I did a statistical analysis that proved if I did the opposite of my instinct I would have placed first. :-)

  24. S.o.S. March 15th, 2010 at 7:14 pm

    Erika,
Kan you klarify to me why you konstantly picked teams with that start with k?

  25. Doreen - 2010 GTLU March 15th, 2010 at 7:15 pm

My husband said to me this morning that if I filled out the brackets tomorrow I’d probably pick differently. I think he’s right. I have no real rhyme or reason. So, tomorrow I will fill out another set of brackets just for the fun/heck of it. I really don’t remember who I picked except for a few notables. :)

My final four is Kansas, Kansas ST, Kentucky and Duke.

(I mentioned I know nothing about this right).

I have one more bracket to complete thats worth more money. Can’t wait to see if I choose different

  27. S.o.S. March 15th, 2010 at 7:17 pm

My wife always seems to stick with teams that wear blue and has gone far with N.C., Memphis and Kansas. And here i watch games in March to have an edge and seem to do worse. Maybe i should throw darts at it. BTW, my 6 year old who was 5 last year tied me in points by just picking teams that sounded good. Sad.

  28. Nick in SF March 15th, 2010 at 7:19 pm

    Duke? I’d kancel that one.

  29. S.o.S. March 15th, 2010 at 7:20 pm

    Erica,
Replace Duke with louis. Kardinals or Nova Kats and your bracket would look prettier.

Drive 4-5 – I got some good news the other day. My friend, with whom I share Yankee tickets, told me we got back on the Saturday plan. Here’s hoping things work out for you.

Doreen – How was the drive to Islip today?

  35. S.o.S. March 15th, 2010 at 7:32 pm

Scratch the Kardinals and Kats suggestion. I now see why you picked Duke. Coach K. Makes perfect sense.

  36. m March 15th, 2010 at 7:32 pm

How about teams with coaches with last names that start with a ‘K’?

It’s okay if you didn’t know that Krzyzewski started with a ‘K’, spelling bee champ Samir Patel didn’t get that one either.

  37. blake March 15th, 2010 at 7:35 pm

    Erica -

    That’s too bad.

Today was my first day out since Friday. Lots of downed trees and branches and limbs, but at least by today they were cleared off the road. What a mess!

Are the gates stuck in the down position? I’m wondering if they do this on purpose when there is a chance of a power outage? If the gates are stuck up, it could be very dangerous.

    Duke? I’d kancel that one.”

Villanova has been struggling recently and the “experts” would not be surprised if Nova is knocked out early.

The only real challenge Duke faces is Louisville (as the beat Syracuse in their final regular season game), but I really do not see Duke missing the Sweet 16 again.

If Duke faced Texas A&M, that could pose a challenge, as the game would be in Texas.

Erica, while I do not think that Duke has a great chance to win the whole thing, they do have an excellent chance to go to the Final Four.

  61. David in Cal March 15th, 2010 at 8:14 pm

Everyone assumes the Yanks will carry 2 backup outfielders (probably Winn and Hoffman/Thames) and one backup infielder (Peña or Russo.) Since Peña played some outfield last year, I wonder if it’s worth considering taking both Peña and Russo along with just one backup outfielder?

  62. Betsy - Romine wasn't built in a day March 15th, 2010 at 8:18 pm

    Dave-

    I have considered that also.

I do not think the Yankees will go that way though.

That would mean dumping Hoffman and Thames.

I think they’ll want to keep one.
