“Mitre and Gaudin don’t have a prayer of winning the 5th spot….”

    lol.

    I hope Mitre wins it

The Yankees went in to their Dr. for a checkup.

And the Dr. said they were healty except for one thing.

    They have glut problems.

They suffer from upper level glut problems.

He suggested rest and a few trades to solve the problem. :)

    Why is that funny?

  4. jennifer March 19th, 2010 at 8:50 am

Betsy- I don’t get it either.

i wonder if Johnny is making the trip to play the Yankees, or if he stubbed his toe again.

Surprised that many regulars are on the road squad. The Rays spring ballpark is a bit of a hike from Tampa

    “Why is that funny?”
    —————————–

everyone on this board dump on Mitre. And i would laugh if he won the #5

  7. pat March 19th, 2010 at 8:58 am

I think the rule is you are “encouraged” by the league to send 4 starters on the road during ST.

  8. jennifer March 19th, 2010 at 8:58 am

    tampayank

They are required to bring 4 regulars. They did.

t’s no secret Posada had contentious relationships with several of those hurlers, and has more recently clashed with A.J. Burnett. Posada is understandably sensitive about that indictment, flatly denying that he and Burnett won’t be able to co-exist in 2010.

“There is no problem, not now, not last year,” Posada said. “The only reason [Jose] Molina ended up catching A.J. a few times was because they had success together. But it had nothing to do with me and A.J.” bob klapisch

    http://www.northjersey.com/spo....._done.html

he said” has clashed” and “not may have clashed” and not ” reportedly had clashed”, but “has clashed”.

what klapisch should have said that would have been totally accurate is” i’ve got to make up stuff and be controversial so people will read me because much better sports writers than me are being let go right and left.”

They have Thames, Hoffman, & Golson playing at home.
He’s a young guy, but I like Golson out of that group. Though Thames has the edge being a veteran. Hoffman will likely go back to the Dodgers.
I don’t believe Winn will give us much (I do hope I’m wrong).

For those that have DirecTV, both games are on television today with the afternoon game on YES 631 channel and the night game at the Rays on channel 653.

  12. teddy March 19th, 2010 at 9:24 am

i was close, had no idea who play rf

  13. Patrick from CT March 19th, 2010 at 9:35 am

Like I said on an earlier post, Thames better start hitting or he’s not making this team. I don’t see why the last guy on the bench has to be a RH outfielder. Winn is the #4 and can play anywhere and Pena played some OF last year if there is an emergency. They need a pinch hitter on the bench and whom ever is hitting well should get that job coming out of ST.

I had plenty of time to really read multiple Sunday newspapers this week cover to cover and came to the conclusion that the newspaper industry may employ more columnists than they do reporters/ beat writers these days.

The days of multiple people reporting what happened have been replaced by multiple people interpreting what happened.

The scary thing is many readers may not understand that a story with a quote or 2 sprinkled in does not make fact out of a columnists opinion just because you saw it in print.

It’s so sad guys have make stuff up.

    Amazing really.

Did Klapisch bother writing that Posada was a frequent guest at AJ’s for get togethers last year?

Of course not because that would take away from his opinion that Posada has contentious relationships with people.

Here’s a dose of reality. You can’t have the success Posada has had in his career by having contentious relationships with pitchers. It’s impossible.

Disagreements? Sure. That happens over the course of a season.

A pattern of contentious relationships, which Klapisch alleges? Not possible and have the success Posada has had.

Well, outside of the “clashing thing”, I thought it wasn’t half bad.

And Jorge looks great doesn’t he?

(this comment should go under the “Today in the Journal News- Mark Melancon…”, but since everyone prefers to post under the latest post… (you can tell I don’t like that approach…))

My current guess for Yankees roster- pitchers
    CC
    AJ
    Andy
    Vazquez
    Hughes/Chamberlain

    Hughes/Chamberlain
    Aceves
    Mo
    Robertson
    Chan Ho Park
    Marte
    Melancon

    Losing out
    Gaudin
    Mitre
    Logan
    Albaladejo

  20. HolyYankee! March 19th, 2010 at 1:49 pm

I think Melancon should have a set up job. I dont speculate anything but I like to have Melancon in the major for a full season prior to taking over Rivera’s closing job. Rivera can retire after this season with great feeling since he is a lock for becoming a hall of fame inductee.

I want Aceves to be our 5th starter to start the season with Chamberlain and Hughes pitching in triple A working on change up and secondary pitches. Yes, that means Mitre and Gaudin are staying with Yankees as relievers. Aceves seemingly pitches well in early of a season but starts faltering afterward. That way Hughes or Chamberlain can replace Aceves as 5th starter in the midst of the season. Gaudin or Mitre or both will be DFAed when Yankees bring Chamberlain and Hughes back.

I dont like waiting for Chamberlain and Hughes to find a groove for changeup pitch during stay with the big parent club.

I looked around on the site and found an interesting one.

It is about a Yankees getting Mauer suggestion. Why? Nick Johnson has a lifetime ticket for DL trips. Robinson Cano may or may not have to hit well under RISP. Granderson is a hack.

Personally, I can see Granderson batting 2nd because he rarely hit into DP. Johnson is a better option for that spot due to having high OBP but he runs like a grandma and we dont expect Teixeria and Rodriguez hit HR every time Johnson on base. That plus Cano continues struggling with RISP will make Mauer attractive.

Mauer would bat between Rodriguez and Posada as well as Posada would become a full time DH. It is not a bad idea but Yankees will have to pay $$$ to retain both Mauer and Jeter after this season.

The cost to acquire Mauer is up to debate. One mentioned that Yankees could send Chamberlain, Hughes and Montero. I have a problem with that because Pettitte and Vasquez may not return for next season unless we have faith in Bleich, McAllister, Nosei or Nova.

Dont laugh at me…. The one also mentioned that If Yankees want to lower the budget for next year then they can have Mauer now and then they can offer an arbitration offers to both Mauer and Vasquez. Yankees could have 5 first round picks for 2011′s draft.

It is crazy but an interesting idea. I mean if Yankees actually went after Mauer then who would they give up? Yankees have many good prospects but Chamberlain, Hughes, Melancon, Robertson, Montero and maybe Cano or Russo are either in major or closer to it.
