Finally getting to go to an ST game, been a hectic year but my wife was kind enough to get tickets and Dunedin is just up the street so we are going. A good birthday present indeed.

BryanHoch C Francisco Cervelli has a Grade 1 (mild) left hamstring strain. Girardi says won’t play rest of ST; not DL yet. 3 minutes ago

Thanks guys. BD was actually yesterday but we are celebrating a bit today as well with the game. The BlueJays field is not as nice as the Phillies or GS but close by and homey. Sorry to not be seeing ARod or Jete, but lookin forward to AJ pitching and seeing the rest of the team. Yippie going to a game. It still gets me going.

Girardi: Granderson in CF, Gardner LF. Final answer.

Wow, unbelievable….poor Frankie. I’ll bet he eventually goes on the DL. Sheesh – right before the season starts, too.

Good – I always wanted Granderson in CF.

    Thanks, Pat – thanks Erin!

Speaks reams as to what type of person Grandy is.

He’ll be a great and popular Bomber for years to come.

Thats the way it should have been. you don’t trade for an All Star CF to stick him in LF.

    Pat M or CB,

Not to stir up anymore Joba debate, but I have a question for those that have a good bit of knowledge on the pitching side of things:

Everyone talks about how Joba has lost his fastball after that Texas start, which seems to be true, but how is it that he seemingly hasn’t lost a tick off his slider? When he was mowing people down in 07 and throughout the minors the fastball was sitting 94+ and the slider was around the 87-88 mph mark.

Why is that the slider hasn’t lost velocity? Is it purely conditioning? He got himself into such good shape in 06-07 that he could repeat his mechanics on the fastball that allowed for the increased velocity?

Just asking… any input would be greatly appreciated.

    100% agreed

now the geniuses at nom@@s will have to find a different idea to endorse

Craw, first – I’m a generally pessimisitic person. Second, hamstring strains (yes, I know this is mild) can linger. After I posted it, I realized it’s probably not that serious – still, I hate to see any player injured.

my favorite non-yankee player, in past 5 years. Never expected he would be on the yankees

With Ace and Cervelli hurting I think both will begin the season on the DL. Logan and Rivera will make the team on opening day but hopefully their tenure will be short lived.

  25. austinmac April 1st, 2010 at 9:50 am

As long as the Yankees are unsure if Gardner can hit enough to be a regular they had to keep him in left so not to have the potential of switching Granderson back to center.

Isn’t Rivera banged up as well? Or is he past that now?

  27. SJ44 April 1st, 2010 at 9:53 am

Mechanics. Pitching is like a golf swing. Any change in mechanics can result in the loss of velocity, movement and command.

Joba’s shoulder injury was not serious. What’s happened to him though is that his mechanics aren’t as tight as they once were.

That’s affected his stuff more than anything.

We are seeing signs though that he is beginning to get his mechanics back to a more consistent level.

The fastball is showing late movement again. The tilt on the slider has been much better recently.

It’s now about building arm strength and concentrating on repeating his mechanics.

If he does that, he will get back to being the pitcher he is capable if being.

New Post: Granderson in center, Cervelli with a Grade 1

  29. randy l. April 1st, 2010 at 9:54 am

    betsy-

slight hamstring pulls can easily turn into really serious hamstring injuries.

if you remember ,cervelli got his shot last year when posada missed 24 days after a slight hamstring problem turned into a big one.

it’s better for the yankees to err on the cautious side with cervelli especially in the cold weather of the early season when players are often playing tight and field conditions can be bad.

Curtis seems like a nice man and a good player and I’m all for supporting people who are both those things but he hasn’t played an official game yet as a NY Yankee so I’d like to see more before I consider him a great and popular bomber.

    vinny-b – I’ll bet he’s a great teammate too.

Acevedo’s back issue is probably why Hughes will remain on the 25 even though he’ll be starting two weeks in.

I believe Girardi confirmed that Hughes is staying on in case they need a long man; although in a pinch, I’m sure Mitre would be ready to give 3-4 innings.

How bout giving PJ Pellitiere a chance if Cervelli is on the DL?

  34. Billy April 1st, 2010 at 12:03 pm

I think PJ would struggle behind the plate, especially with the running game. PJ struggled throwing runners out last year. He just doesn’t have a good arm.

Can’t wait for the season to start!
