Albaladejo has been cloned and is pitching for both sides. Um…cool! But shouldn’t they have cloned CC first?

  2. Balloon Boy McFadden April 3rd, 2010 at 10:47 am

LOL. You beat me to it Chad! Quick with the edit there! Thanks for the great coverage!

Yankee players and some fans don’t like this game, but as a Yankee fan I’m happy the organization is allowing us to see some future Yankees today. This is a fan event and should be held every spring training.

Some fascinating Futures gazing for us this afternoon.

  5. BBFan April 3rd, 2010 at 10:52 am

I wonder what is the logic behind selecting these minor leaguers as future stars. Some are obvious such as Montero. Some others are not and probably there are better players at those postions – like 1B and 3B.

  6. BBFan April 3rd, 2010 at 10:53 am

    Chad,

Is the game on the TV today?
    Thanks.

  7. SJ44 April 3rd, 2010 at 10:56 am

It should be held at the beginning of the ST schedule and not on the final day. Similar to when teams schedule games against the college teams.

The team should be relaxing in Boston getting ready for tomorrow night.

The Yankees dropped the ball on this one and I don’t blame the guys for being a bit ticked off about playing this game.

    Albaladejo future star?
    Why not use Igawa.

  9. RSom April 3rd, 2010 at 10:59 am

Wonder why McAllister or some other pitcher who actually has a future couldn’t get the start. Perhaps the Yankees want one last look at Albaldejo against major league hitters for future reference?

  10. Chad Jennings April 3rd, 2010 at 11:00 am

I think the game is on YES but I’m actually not positive.

As for the Future Stars lineup, they actually got pretty close to the organization’s top players at each position. You can obviously debate them, but that’s not a terrible group.

  11. Chad Jennings April 3rd, 2010 at 11:03 am

As for the pitcher, my guess is the Yankees want their actually minor league starters pitching in actual minor league games where they can pitch a lot of innings and stay stretched out in that no-rules environment. Up here, they’ll just run through a bunch of relievers.

pcaldera Jeter, Joba just arrived in clubhouse in slacks and sportscoats – charter flight attire. Camp is coming to a close. Next stop: Boston.

I agree with SJ, this game should not have been played today. The players should be in Boston preparing for tomorrow.

However, not sure if beginnig of Spring is the right time when regular players are not fully ready. Somewhere in the middle of the spring training will be ideal.

  14. BBFan April 3rd, 2010 at 11:05 am

    Thanks Chad for your answers.

  15. teddy April 3rd, 2010 at 11:05 am

    the players need to chill.

the minors deserve a reward for backing the major leaguers.

so they travel to a night game, big deal

  16. Tom in N.J. April 3rd, 2010 at 11:07 am

The game is on YES at 1pm:

  17. pat April 3rd, 2010 at 11:07 am

Any future star who hurts any starter today has no future.

  18. BBFan April 3rd, 2010 at 11:08 am

    Teddy,

Noone is questioning the need for the game itself. I think it is great.
    It is the timing.
For example, a week ago would have been ideal.

  19. BBFan April 3rd, 2010 at 11:09 am

    Thanks Tom.
I have not seen many of these minor leaguers.
It will be fun to watch them.

  20. Tom in N.J. April 3rd, 2010 at 11:09 am

The Red Sox are also playing a game today, FWIW.

  21. PJH April 3rd, 2010 at 11:10 am

Romine has a canon for a right arm.

  22. YankeeRay April 3rd, 2010 at 11:11 am

I don’t have a problem with this game being played today. Most teams play an exhibition game the day before opening day to stay sharp.
They will play a few innings and then back off the starters. Fly to Boston in the early evening and they don’t play until tomorrow night.
I like it and am looking forward to seeing some of the futures play.

  23. bodhisattva - Destiny Wears Pinstripes April 3rd, 2010 at 11:11 am

Want to see Heathcott or Mesa throw a runner out :D

  24. teddy April 3rd, 2010 at 11:11 am

true, but not like there going to laa, is to bos, how many hours is that on flight

  25. BBFan April 3rd, 2010 at 11:12 am

I think three years from now, Romine will the starting catcher and Motero will be DH + backup catcher.

  26. Pat M. April 3rd, 2010 at 11:14 am

Hotels are expensive in Boston I suppose…….They make money today rather than spending money in Boston……I don’t believe this to be true, but they should be in Boston rather than flying in tonight

  27. SJ44 April 3rd, 2010 at 11:14 am

I’m also of the school that I think it’s a joke the Yankees start on the road in Biston and Tampa.

They are the defending champs. They should open the season at home.

They open and close the season on the road against their biggest rivals. That’s a joke.

I can’t remember the last time a defending champion has had to do that.

  28. SJ44 April 3rd, 2010 at 11:18 am

The Yankees had to endure watching the Red Sox get their rings in 2005.

MLB should have had the Sox have to do the same thing this year.

Bud Selig. Only Bud can make Gary Bettman look competent as a Comissioner.

  29. BBFan April 3rd, 2010 at 11:19 am

SJ, MLB just wants to milk the popularity of the Yanks :)
And they still bit*ch about Yanks spending money on the players.

  30. Chad Jennings April 3rd, 2010 at 11:20 am

The Red Sox were defending champs when they opened at Yankee Stadium in 2005. I’m pretty sure the Yankees opened on the road in 1997, 1999 and 2000.

In all fairness, aren’t preliminary schedules made a year in advance before the Yanks were the champions?

I remember the middle of last season listening Suzy & John discuss the preliminary schedule and games against the Dodgers this season

  32. teddy April 3rd, 2010 at 11:22 am

    sj your wrong.

yanks to lost bo in alcs so they open in 05 in ny, then ny opened in fenway 05

the yanks beat the angels in the alcs, so they open up and see the hardware.

i rather see matsui” hopefullt” gets his ring to an epic standing ovation

“Like Bobby V or not, he’s a smart guy and a good baseball man…one of the best at ESPN”
    ——————————————————————————

Joe Mcgraine (MLB network) is another guy who is good. He and Duane Kiper were the Tampa Rays announcers for a long time. Know i will get flamed, but i liked listening to their games. Mcgraine would get a little jab/joke in against the yankees ocoasionally, but he is actually very funny. And it fit the context, considering the match-up was David and Galiath at the time

  34. BBFan April 3rd, 2010 at 11:25 am

    Erica was corect.
The schedules are decided before the playoffs are done.
So much for the conspiracy theory :)
    Still Selig Stinks (SSS) :)

  35. SJ44 April 3rd, 2010 at 11:29 am

MLB should copy the NFL blueprint.

The Super Bowl winner opens the following season at home in primetime to kickoff the season.

Could you imagine the excitement and interest generated about Opening Night if the Yankees were opening at home in primetime against Boston and receiving their rings?

That’s the proper way to kickoff the baseball season, IMO.

  36. CR9 April 3rd, 2010 at 11:38 am

Bud couldn’t manage his way out of a bathroom, nevermind manage an entire baseball league.

And yet somehow he steals 14 million a year for corrupting and ruining a league.

They talk about Carl Pavano stealing 40 mil from us, or Alex Rodriguez being grossly overpaid. I hardly think that is the case at all. It’s a loser like Bud stealing 14 million a year that annoys me.

  37. The Ohta Faction April 3rd, 2010 at 11:41 am

    RHP Jonathan Albaladejo

they picked the guy to make the hitters look like future stars.

  38. CR9 April 3rd, 2010 at 11:43 am

    Ohta Faction

    LOL

At first, I thought that said RIP Jonathan Albaladejo.

I was like, omg I feel so bad for insulting him recently.

    LOL
