    Nice pics, Chad!

I hope the weather says this way, but watch it rain, lol

I wonder if that’s environmentally safe, lead-free paint that they are using. If not, Greenpeace will be looking to blow up the new Stadium to make their views known.

GB – I missed the name on your post and knew it couldn’t be anyone but you worrying about Greenpeace :)

When their leader declares “Peace in our time”, look out.

j/k about peace being for sissies, though.

Hey GB. You guys are looking good!

  6. Joe from Long Island April 11th, 2010 at 9:45 pm

    Great pix.

Do they unfurl the World Championship flag, also?

I hope I can tune in while at work, for at least a little bit.

    pat -

    From last thread -

I was only talking about Jackson looking at his own situation, not about anyone here. I certainly wasn’t trying to insult you or anyone else.

  9. GreenBeret7 April 11th, 2010 at 9:50 pm

Evening, Ray. hope all is well with you and the (sox fa) family. Yeah, NYY made another solid late game comeback today. Boston’s looking good since they left Boston. At least the last two days. The bats are hopping and they have some new-found power. Still not sure how the front part of your bullpen and back of the rotation will turn out, but, still probably a better team overall than Tampa. Haven’t seen much running from them and defense doesn’t seem that much different than last year’s. Perhaps they should have resigned Alex Gonzales for shortstop.

  10. The Captains Blog April 11th, 2010 at 9:52 pm

    The place looks great.

@ Joe from LI: Not only do they unveil the 2009 flag, but they are going to be flying all of the other 26 as well. Sounds like a spectacular sight.

  11. GreenBeret7 April 11th, 2010 at 9:52 pm

Ray, I haven’t seem nuch of the KC/Boston series, but, has Ellsbury been having defensive issues out there. I figured that he’d look better than what I’ve seen.

  12. Stephen April 11th, 2010 at 9:55 pm

Leave it to the Yanks to sell JumboTron ad space to Budweiser for the AP photos.

    ;)

  13. ray (sox fan) April 11th, 2010 at 9:59 pm

GB, unfortunately my work schedule the last few days has not allowed to actually watch very many of the games so I can’t comment on how Ellsbury is doing defensively.

Obviously still very, very early in the season but I am concerned about the Sox bullpen. R Ramirez seems completely lost in the bullpen.

I have pleasantly surprised so far with Beltre’s offense.

I like our starting rotation but we have no one who even lives in the same “zip code” so to speak with CC. That guy is just plain very, very good.

  14. Benny Blanco April 11th, 2010 at 10:01 pm

    Hey Betsy,

What are you expecting from phils first start?

    Obviously, I can’t see in the future but I’ll take 6 inn ,7 hits, 2R, 2BB, and 8K’s .

  15. Trevor April 11th, 2010 at 10:05 pm

All those ads bug me. I would like to see some of the wall.

  16. GreenBeret7 April 11th, 2010 at 10:05 pm

Ray thinking about how uncomfortable Ellsbury looks in left field. Misjudging some flies to the tracks and throwing himself on the ground and coming up short. Actually a lot like Gardner, neither look comfortable going into the left field corner. Though, like you say, it’s still early for both players. Do you think they’ll bench Ortiz by the end of April if he doesn’t get it cranked up? I know what most fans and media think.

  17. pat April 11th, 2010 at 10:06 pm

    Doreen

I was playing so I should have included a  .

He seems happy with where he is but the “What ifs” of not kicking it into high gear before now would bother me if I was him.

To paraphrase what Papa Jeter has been known to say, someone may have more talent than you but there’s no excuse for them to outwork you.

  18. GreenBeret7 April 11th, 2010 at 10:07 pm

Other than experience, Lester still lives just down the street from Sabathia. I figure that NYY steals him when J. Henry goes broke and has to sell him.

  19. Benny Blanco April 11th, 2010 at 10:09 pm

    pat -

I was hoping you were playing, but one can’t be too sure on the internet. :)

I’m kind of thrown about Jackson, because everything I read said he was a hard worker. I’m just thinking he was thrown by the trade.

  24. ray (sox fan) April 11th, 2010 at 10:16 pm

GB, you were asking about Ortiz.

I don’t necessarily see Ortiz getting benched by the end of April.

But they certainly will not give Ortiz as much time as they did last season. I was listening to the game on the radio today. Ortiz was up with the bases loaded and only one out. A few years ago Sox would have been drooling with that situation.

Ortiz starts out 0-2 but works it to a full count. He swings badly at a pitch that was way out of the strike zone to make an out. If he just held back it would have walked in a run.

Ended up not being a critical mistake today, but Boston is not going to let that keep happening. The question is though, do you put Lowell in at DH or trade for a bat?

  25. BJK April 11th, 2010 at 10:16 pm

Here’s hoping Ortiz stays in the lineup. Lowell is a much scarier hitter these days. Keep him on the bench.

The real question is, how many homers does Varitek have to hit in a game to get some playing time?

  26. m April 11th, 2010 at 10:18 pm

From what I saw on the highlights, Ellsbury’s having a tough go of it in LF. :)

He got jawed at by Bill Hall when their miscommunication cost them a run. And the Beltre thing. Ouch.

Ellsbury’s fast, but he has a tough time coming in on balls from what I read.

He and Gardner are both adjusting to LF, so it’s too soon for any conclusions.

No chance. The Mariners would be hot to sign him to upgrade their DH spot.

  53. GreenBeret7 April 11th, 2010 at 10:45 pm

Ray, you pose an interesting question. I think that I give the job toLowell and let Ortiz ride the bench. Boston won;t get anything back for him and would need to eat about $10 mil on either contract. If Lowell gets hurt again, they won’t find anything that helps without putting another $6 mil or so out, plus talent. I can’t see Henry and Epstein doing that. I also don’t think that they can afford to go after Gonzales right now. Their farm took a pretty good hit in getting Martinez and losing Tazawa and Westmoreland. Matsuzaka’s not bringing in much.

  54. m April 11th, 2010 at 10:47 pm

  71. CR9 April 11th, 2010 at 11:10 pm

The fact that he calls himself Cowboy Joe West is disgraceful.

He is trying to profit off his career as an “impartial” umpire.

    What an absurdity.

It was named “Diamond Dreams” and what’s absolutely mind boggling about it is that in it, West pontificates on how baseball is so great because there is no time limit involved. Seriously!

Here’s the link although I can’t recommend listening to it on a late Sunday evening.

Thanks. After seeing the Yanks cheated repeatedly today, and then seeing notorious Rangers hater Kerry Fraser referee the Rangers game unfairly, this was the perfect time.

One day, referees/scumpires will treat NY teams with fairness, and when that day comes, God help the rest of the teams.

Right now, the Yankees/Giants/Jets all have great upper management. If we had fairness from the stripes, I can only imagine how many championships we’d get.

Not certain but I think thats just a month or two. Pretty sure a major league player had one last season or the season before.

  90. GreenBeret7 April 12th, 2010 at 12:05 am

Betsy, as a pitcher, I’d think that Banuelos will be out 4-5 weeks to make sure he heals properly and no problems with peritonitis setting in. He probably should have had them take out his tonsils and fix all of those other childhood maladies.

  91. Betsy - Hughes rules (pleading the Fifth) April 12th, 2010 at 12:18 am

Jerkface, GB – thanks! That seems like a long time, but I guess it’s really not – and it’s best to be safe than sorry. If that’s what it is, then I’ll be happy that Banuelos is not injured and that they performed the operation in time – scary. I looked it up – it was Corey Hart who spent more than a month on the DL. Doesn’t it seem like the Yankees are having the worst luck already this year with their young arms?

  92. GreenBeret7 April 12th, 2010 at 12:23 am

Not sure that NYY’s having any more issues with their kids than any other team. Just that they’re the Yankees and theat’s the minor leaguers that most Yankee fans follow.

  93. Betsy - Hughes rules (pleading the Fifth) April 12th, 2010 at 12:28 am

True, GB…………well, in any case, Banuelos’ setback is temporary, unlike that of Garcia/Horne.

  96. Rich in NJ April 12th, 2010 at 12:57 am

I’m just glad it’s baseball season and there is only a very small chance of snow until like late November. So I will gladly live with off days.

When it does get cold and the baseball season is over, with the Yankees having caused Girardi to change his uniform number yet again, maybe CC, Jeter, A-Rod and the rest of the NY powers that be will have convinced LeBron that playing in NY is a once in a lifetime opportunity that no other city in the world can approach.

  97. m April 12th, 2010 at 1:04 am

    LeBron? :?

Anyway, he’ll have to make his decision a lot sooner. By the time the Fall Classic is wrapping up, he’ll be playing in his new uni. Either a Cleveland one with his new # or a new team with his new #.

Fran, that’s good news; I hope he can rejoin the team soon.

It remains to be seen how the final stages of demolition to the old Stadium will affect the wind currents to the new Stadium.

Sweeny Murti raised the question to Girardi- Tuesday, 7th inning, Matsui comes to the plate, are you bringing in a lefty to face him or what’s the plan?

Yes, it’s going to be bright, beautiful and warm for Opening Day and they are returning from a road trip 4-2 against their Division Rivals. But it’s only a game:

Great news about Geno. You gotta pull for one of the Good Guys to come through. Ditto about Mickelson; his wife and mom are both sick. All the best to them too. And whatever happens with Schoenweiss up in Boston, you have to wish him well after losing his wife and trying to keep playing.

I was at the stadium on a tour last sunday and they still had johnny damon and hideki matsui stuff up on the outside walls and inside the stadium. Got to sit in the dugout, it was pretty uncomfortable, we didnt get to tour the clubhouse, because they were loading all the yankees home gear from spring training. The museum was pretty cool and monument park was awesome. It was my first time in New Yankee stadium and only my third time inside a yankee stadium. I took some great pictures of the destruction of the old stadium. If i can figure out how to post picture is will.
