Interesting lineup with giving Arod a half day off and NJ a full day along with Jorge.

I actually like this lineup given the goals and alternatives, but it’s getting harder and harder to imagine a scenario of how Winn’s bat will ever be worth keeping on the roster.

  3. hardwired April 24th, 2010 at 2:11 pm

considering what happened the last time they faced Pineiro, a change was definitely in order.

Wonder why Gardner isn’t leading off instead of Jete

  5. awaism April 24th, 2010 at 2:14 pm

    That’s better

Can some1 explain the infield flyball rule

  7. JK April 24th, 2010 at 2:18 pm

Man NJ better start producing….. it could get real ugly back in Yankee stadium if he’s still under .200 watch pitches for strike 3.

Hopefully the Yankees continue to hold Matsui in check during this series. The compare and contrast between their early season performances is not making things easier for Johnson with Yankees fans.

“Wonder why Gardner isn’t leading off instead of Jete”

Perhaps, he doesn’t want to move Jeter for one game.

Well the defense is certainly there with this lineup…

  11. Joe from Long Island April 24th, 2010 at 2:31 pm

What is it with the stupid baserunning?

I just turned on the Mets, and saw the Braves runner on 3rd fail to tag up on a long fly ball to Francouer. He got caught in a run down, then they threw out the runner on 2nd who was caught off base, to end the inning.

So, Atlanta just turned 2nd and 3rd, one out, and a long fly ball into a DP and no runs scored.

Cox looks livid on my HDTV. Livid.

  12. Rich in NJ April 24th, 2010 at 2:32 pm

Jeter is more likely to get on base than Gardner. So you want him leading off.

  13. Bronx Jeers April 24th, 2010 at 2:38 pm

“What is it with the stupid baserunning?”

And Blanco just stole a base!

That may not be stupid but it certainly is stupefying.

    Love the lineup change

Keep NJ on the bench until he starts hitting… the guy is killing us with all the Ks and unproductive outs. At least Tex is showing signs…

  15. Rich in NJ April 24th, 2010 at 2:45 pm

“Keep NJ on the bench until he starts hitting… ”

Hitting from the bench can be problematic…

  16. Chuck58 April 24th, 2010 at 2:46 pm

    Infield Fly Rule…. let’s see:
Runners on first and second or bases loaded.
None out, or one out. Fair ball pop fly that can be caught by an infielder using ordinary effort; batter is out and runners may advance at their peril.

    How’s that, gang?

  17. Chuck58 April 24th, 2010 at 2:47 pm

Hitting from the bench…. Good one, Rich! :-)

  18. JK April 24th, 2010 at 2:48 pm

The intent is not to allow the infielders to intentionally drop the ball and force runners to advance to the next base resulting in possible doule play.

  20. XLJ April 24th, 2010 at 2:51 pm

Teixeira and Johnson needs to start hitting. It is amazing how good the yankees record is considering they have a real tough april schedule and that they are getting nothing from there 2nd and 3rd hitters.

  21. pat April 24th, 2010 at 2:52 pm

eboland11 Girardi, asked about Teixeira not checking on Wilson: “this isn’t the family reunion softball game.”

 These Yankees may have a little bit of an edge to them this year.

  22. JK April 24th, 2010 at 2:52 pm

    What you guys think about…

    Crawford, LF
    Jeter, SS
    Tex, 1B
    Arod, 3B
    Cano, 2B
    Posada, C/DH
Granderson (has better arm than Swish), RF
Swisher DH or Montero, C/DH (if he dominates AAA this year)
Gardner (if he has a good season), CF

    ???

So they went 2-4 on this west coast trip.

It is tolerable — not acceptable, but tolerable.

Wow, they played the other 2 games in Anaheim already and they lost both?

How come the scores of those games aren’t available to anyone else but our daily Red Sox troll?

The latest word from the financial world is that they plan to dismantle Goldman Sachs and distribute all its assets to the American tax payers.

  31. m April 24th, 2010 at 3:15 pm

there was a game yesterday where the infield fly rule was in effect (runners can go at their own caution). It may have been the mets game that pagan scored because no one was covering home plate. monumental f-up.

  32. Dina Temple-Raston April 24th, 2010 at 3:16 pm

Prof. SJ : Shouldn’t a red sox troll root for the red sox, instead of the Yankees?

    lol

  33. SJ44 April 24th, 2010 at 3:18 pm

He doesn’t root for the Yankees.

He didn’t last year when he was here under a different name.

  34. m April 24th, 2010 at 3:20 pm

I think that’s ER. I called him a mets fan and he got all kinds of insulted. Said he’s been a Yankees fan longer than I have or something like that.

These trolls can get so indignant.

  38. SAS April 24th, 2010 at 3:35 pm

Chad, I just finished reading the blog from last night that extended until after noon today. As I said last night that type of vile language should not be acceptable whether by a ‘troll’ or by a regular poster. Because of the way it was typed it was impossible to miss. I think you or Sam ought to explain to us what is done, can be done, etc.

The Journal News is part of the Gannett chain of papers. Surely, a corporation that size has someone who knows a way to stop this from continuing. As someone said earlier, the baseball stuff may be annoying but the language is inexcusable.

The blog is here for the enjoyment of those who wish to partake. It is obviously important to LoHud since serious journalists are assigned to it. Therefore, there has to be an appropriate way to stop this nonsense.

  39. Rick April 24th, 2010 at 3:48 pm

All things point to Girardi having no confidence in the bat of Randy Winn and unless things change, Cashman will be shopping in July or sooner.
