Pettitte rolls as Yankees rebound in Anaheim
An impressive first month just keeps getting better for Andy Pettitte. The veteran lefty had his best outing of the year this afternoon in Anaheim, shutting down the Angels for a 7-1 win that snapped a modest two-game losing streak for the Yankees. Pettitte struck out out, walked none and allowed just one run through eight innings. Robinson Cano had four hits, Brett Gardner had three and Francisco Cervelli had a key two-run single when the game was still close in the fourth.

very satisfying win..so many positives to take from this game
I’m so disappointed I missed this game
But they won, so it’s all good
Great win
Great game for Gardner
3 hits, 2 runs, 1 3b, 1 sb, 1 assist
Reminder: YES has a new post game show called “Yankees Extra Innings”.
If that aint the truth, RalphieD!!!
Oddly, Andy had a very disjointed ST; maybe it should rain in Florida every day, lol
this Pettitte kid just might have a future in this game.
I can finally exhale.
I didn’t say anything ‘cos I didn’t want people to be nervous, but today’s game was a must win.
Nice game, surprised they didn’t discuss the arod/dallas issue
thanks for the heads-up, Trevor.

Because one three game losing streak = end of the season? It’s April, even if they lost they’d be 11-6 lol.
I can’t believe the Yanks got swept this weekend.
Nick’s playing with you, Alex.
What a terrible start, with a difficult schedule.
Anything less than 17-0 was an utter failure.
Just an easy pop fly to left center and Orsillo made it sound like it was a good defensive play.
Speaking of players from “rinky dink colleges”, Ryan Pope gets the start for Trenton. Pope is from Savannag and a grad of Savannah College Of Art And Design. They’re fast becoming a powerhorse baseball team in the sun Conference. Their first baseball coach was Luis Tiant and their first basketball coach was Cazzie Russell. This is just their 10th year of athletics.
Pettitte is pitching as well so far this season as he did in 1996 and 1997.
It’s just not the same team without Melky. What was Cashman thinking?
Totally unwatchable now.
If Andy wants to pitch again next year, the Yankees can just let Javy walk and sign Cliff Lee.

Ledger_Yankees Johnson’s back stiffer than he let on, likely out til Tuesday. #NYY
Thnk you Andy for being a Yankee! Gardner proved himself a great # batter, Joe should try it again tomorrow.
Did anyone hear the garbage Joe Buck and Company were speaking about the Yankees? My favorite line was, ” the Angels weren’t afraid of the soc called Yankees Dynasty,” because they are 29-3 against them in this park.
By the end of the 7th Buck and co couldn’t say enough good things about their awesome defense, and Teixeira’ defense, Cano-Jeter stats working in tandem in the infield, Gardner’s at bats, etc.,Only when it was obvious the Yankees would win. this game jerks!!

Does that mean Johnson’s back has been stiff the entire year?
If not, from what point?
Same old, same old re Gardner. More of a paragraph of he?s going to be garbage and then last sentence, ?I hope I?m wrong?. If he?s batting 300 and OBP hovering around 400 you?re going to keep him as a 4th OF. Give your head a shake. The guy hasn?t played a full year in the Majors, he?s still a rookie and the Yankees have played a very tough schedule in regards to quality pitchers this year. People just refuse to cut him any slack in that he?s still a rookie and playing in an unfamiliar position. It?s still a small sample size but I like what I see.
Next Golson will start to tear the cover off the ball and come up to play RF. Speed burners in the OF, defense on Seattle level, I’d be ecstatic. Talk about Wahoo. Think about it – From Damon, Melky and Swish to Gardner, Granderson and Golson. That would be mighty fine.

CR9, as far as I know it’s just a recent thing-Chad had a note earlier today that it was from taking extra batting practice yesterday.
Just noticed something looking at the MLB standings….The AL West has only 4 teams in it, so to win the division a team has to beat out just 3 teams. All the other divisions have 5 teams, except the NL Central, which has 6 teams, meaning to win the division a team must beat out the 5 other teams. Never noticed that…..
Nickk Johnson is taking up a valuable roster spot, can you say Pavano jr?

This is good news!
Trenton in the bottom of the 1st.
Krum ground out
Brewer walk, stolen base
Romine strikeout
Laird foul pop-up
Pope: 1 inning, 0 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, 1 strikeout
Erin
Thanks.
I was hoping this was the reason for his early season struggles, but I guess if it had been, then it would have meant season-round injury struggles.
Better this way. Johnson will turn things around.
There were a number of articles about Pope and his mechanics. Apparently the pitching coach at Art and Design is state of the art in developing pitchers’ mechanics.
Gardner
.340 .436 .404 .841
Melky
.135 .250 .154 .404
Gardner leads AL with 9 SB’s and with less playing time than the others, too.
I hope he steals 80+ this year. That would be totally cool to see a Yankee put up that kind of numbers.
Some interesting numbers against Kazmir, tomorrow.

Hope we go with Thames DH, and give Gardner another start against lefties.
How about we just DFA Nick Johnson and put him in the trash can where he belongs? he obviously doesnt know what it means to be a Yankee… bring up Montero to rotate between catcher and DH with Posada… thats it…
and while we’re at it.. gardner has shown that he’s a better hitter hitting at the top of the order.. isn’t it obvious?
Keep NJ out of the games period. Even Young Cervelli brings more hope to the dH than mush ball.
Gardner is still in the developmental stage, he needs time. So you have days like yesterday and then today. Highs and lows. What I liked was the duster (knock down) and the resulting triple.
Pope pitching the top of the 2nd for Trenton against Portland
infield single
double grounded down left field line (announcers describe it as a cheap double and quite likely foul) 0 not to furture CR9′s conspiracy beliefs…just reporting the voices
strikeout (of the legendary HOFer Iglesias)
ground out to short (RBI)
strikeout
Portland 1-0
Pope: 2 innings, 2 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, 3 strikeouts
Next target is Granderson. He is sinking to .250 avg. Long better work on him.
Melkman is in Hotlanta April 24th, 2010 at 7:37 pm

Sublett leadoff double to left center
Gorecki pop out on bunt

Hey, if you tune into YES, you can watch Andy dominate the Angels…again!
Stoneburner (Stienbrenner) pitching for Charleston – a nice pitcher down in the system.
You all trolls ready to declare Nick Johnson as a lost cause now ?
Is it just me, or have the Red Sox been making an awful lot of errors this year?
And it seems to be all their new guys, too…Beltre, Scutaro, Cameron, and Hermida
New Thread.
Andy threw 114 pitches in 8 inning with 1.29 ERA, Piniero threw 101 in 6 innings giving up 6 HR Yahoo sports list the TOP PERFORMERS by team .

It appears so far the GGBG wasn’t listening when so many people said he could not be a starter in the AL east. In time maybe he will prove them right. Time will tell. But up to now he just isn’t listening. Fun to watch.
Petitte has always been one of my favorite pitchers, and this is looking like a nice season for him so far.
