And people (including the writers) need to stop assuming that everyone is holding 2004 against Javy.

*************************************************************

I don't think a lot of people are, but there *have* been quite a few comments on here stating/implying just that. So I don't think when they say that they're basing it on assumptions. It has actually been said by some fans.

If you listened to Marte on the postgame, it isn't always the pitcher who's in contol of the game...

Marte threw Cervelli under the bus. But if that's the way he sees it, I guess it's better that he tells it than plays a martyr role.

GB, CR9 is a Yankee fan.

BD I think you know that I don't worry about losses. I am trying to figure out why Javy starts out good and falls apart. (I bet Javy's trying to figure it out too!)

"Hey what do you know, Cisco was behind the plate and the pitching staff crapped the bed. That?s to all you Posada bashers out there. The pitchers control the game not the other way around."

The NY Yankees are 12-6 after a very difficult opening schedule. They now play Baltimore and then get a home stand. I think they are in very good shape. Between Joe G and Dave Eiland, they should be able to figure out what is the problem with Javy. I still like our starting rotation very much. As for offense, as the calendar turns, you know that Tex will get going and it’s starting to look like this is the year that Cano becomes a major force. All in all, I must say, a great start!!

"Don’t forget what Ozzie said about Vaz,” He’s got no Heart.”"

Ozzie also called Swisher a whiner and complainer. Since when does Ozzie's opinion mean anything?

Girardi's issue when it comes to the bullpen is that he underestimates the importance of the known quantity. Aceves was pitching well today, which is undisputed. That was the known quantity. When Girardi walked out to the mound to replace him, he was rolling the dice. Any time you bring a new pitcher into the game there is a real possibility that he will stink up the joint. Girardi was willing to trade the known quantity - Aceves is pitching well - for a little bit of strategic gamesmanship with a lefty on lefty matchup. Without of course knowing if the lefty he was bringing in would be any good today. The rest is history - Marte had absolutely no command and gave up 3 runs within minutes.

We have seen this time and time again with Girardi. He takes out a pitcher who is doing well in order to get a better matchup on paper, but not taking into account the fact that the new pitcher might simply not have any stuff on that given day. I love that Girardi seems to take a more scientific approach to decision making than your traditional manager - but at some point he does need to give some sort of weight to what knows (the quality of stuff of his current pitcher) over what he doesn't.

Why do we want Melky back ? The guy is doing nothing in Atlanta. I could understand you saying that we bring back Matsui or Damon if the Angels or Tigers fall out of the race but Melky ???

Don't forget what Ozzie said about Vaz," He's got no Heart." I AGREE HE JUST DOES NOT PITCH AGGRESSIVELY. He pitches with fear of contact.

Next Friday is going to be brutal

A pitcher without a decent fastball and struggling mechanics... facing his former team and manager who insulted him.... and undoubtedly he is going to be amped up to stick it to Ozzie. Oh, he's going to have the fickle fans who want blood as his back drop and will boo him if he even gives up a base hit.

Bad combination.

"Vaz has nothing. His fastball has very little and you can’t beat AL teams with what he’s got!"

AL WHIP:

Sabathia - 1.244
Vasquez - 1.267
Burnett - 1.321
Pettitte - 1.386
