Yankees get back on track in Baltimore
The Yankees got back on the winning track tonight in Baltimore, where the offense scored eight runs and CC Sabathia pitched into the eighth inning for an 8-3 win against the Orioles. The Yankees had lost four of their past five games, but this one was reminiscent of the team’s strong start to the season, with the lineup scoring in bunches and the starter working deep into the game. Robinson Cano hit his sixth home run and Curtis Granderson broke an 0-for-17 slide with two hits.

Cano lifted his crazy april avg from .389 to .390. Hope he keeps this going. It’s fun to watch him when he’s having fun
Don’t want to overreact, but can Mitre be our 7th inning guy?
Anyone else half hoping that later in the season one of our catchers hits the 15 day DL so we can bring up Jesus?
I mean, I’d never wish for it to happen. But I would not be too disappointed.
Are you kidding, Charlestonchew?
Nice win, but they need to take tomorrow’s game and that won’t be easy.
How’s life Merlin?
Montero will get a September call up most likely. I don’t really want to see him before then unless it is in this situation:
Nick Johnson never starts hitting and they finally let him go, bringing up Montero to be a DH/third catcher.
Agree. Nice we got it tonight but means nothing if we lose tomorrow.
Sox and Rays keep winning and we need to do the same.
Get Matsuz’s pitch count up and beat up on their pen. AJ needs to keep us in the game
Montero isn’t hitting in AAA and he’s still a work in progress behind the plate.
If one of the catchers got hurt, Chad Moeller, not Montero, would get the call.
Montero isn’t ready yet.
For a second I thought YES canceled the post-game show for Boomer and Mike Kay.
Scary!
If you look around the league right there are some very exciting young players breaking in that are the next Jeter’s and ARods and Griffeys and Randys and such in the game.
———————————————————————————————————————-
There isn’t a shortstop in baseball at any level that projects to be a Jeter……much less a Rodriguez or or a center fielder as the next Griffey.
BryanHoch Girardi says Posada probably won’t be available tomorrow. Yankees might need to call up a catcher.
Ugh, that sucks – but it’s not a surprise. I hate Guthrie
I say Jeter gets to 3000 this year.
Anyone thinks different?
Longoria = A-Rod
Heyward = Griffey
There is no Jeter out there, but the othr two are there. Also Joe Mauer = Johnny Beach. Weiters may be Yogi as well.
And don’t forget Tim Lincecum (Clemens), David Price (Sandy Kofaux), and Justin Verlander (Nolan Ryan).
Joe saying that Jorge is sore and will probably be sore tomorrow; he thinks the ball hit mostly muscle
If they call up a catcher for a day, how do they handle the 25 man roster?
Too bad about the Caps, CR9. I caught the last period while I was at the gym. Some really *interesting* calls in that game. Grrr.
Posada might miss more than a few games.
Per susan
I bet Chad Moeller will be driving to NY early tomorrow, in case they want to make a move, either tomorrow or days ahead.
More than a few games? Geez, that’s not what Joe is saying; she must be speculating.
The question is, if they do want to add Moeller, do they commit Jorge for 15 days, or if they feel it will be less time, who do they send down?
I’m trying to think positive; boy, I really don’t want Jorge to miss more than a game or two.
Jeter isn’t going to collect 227 more hits this year. He’s never had that many over a full year, as great as he’s been.
Ugh…
Next to Cano, Jorge is the only one that is hitting now.
It’s OK… we can just watch NJ stare at cookies down the middle of the plate…. that should get the offense going….
susan said posada was “in pain” but it doesn’t sound serious. the subtext of what she said is basically that he won’t play tomorrow. she never said “more than a few games”.

What did you think of Chapman ?
If they have to add Moeller, that means that they’ll ask waivers on Albaladejo. He’s the most expendable player on the 40 man roster.
Betsy, might be necessary to dl him. I got the impression from hearing Joe that they will wait till tomorrow to see how he is, but if it really swells up, it’s going to be too long – even if it’s only a couple of days – to go with only one real catcher.
That’s why I think Moeller will be on the road early, so that if they want to make a move, he’s already there.
IF they decide it might not be the whole 15 days, and think they can get Jorge back sooner, then another player would be indicated to go. With the roster the way it is, I’m thinking Logan, the 2nd lefty, who also has options, would be the guy.
We’ll know before game time tomorrow.
MTU, he was pretty solid, but, at least tonight, he wasn’t showing a $30 million arm. I’m sure that he gets better, though.
If I could create a parallel universe, I’d remove Posada from the Yankee lineup just to illustrate what his absence would do to the lineup.
Those who say “we have enough offense” are just astonishingly lacking in understanding what makes this lineup the exception it is.
If I could create that, I would be interested to see what certain people’s take would be on the With Posada Yankee Lineup vs. the Without Posada Yankee Lineup. I think the little light would finally go on.
Of course, I would never wish it to actually happen in reality, because I don’t need or deserve the effing lesson, and the Yankees need his bat.
But it would be interesting.
Barbados, thanks for clarifying!
Bodh, we’re going to see tomorrow. We have a lineup where Tex is still awful and Alex has no power numbers to speak of…now we won’t have Posada tomorrow.
To get Moeller on the 40-man, yeah, Albie might be the guy to go. Certainly not Logan on waivers..

Cool! I hope Jeter proves you wrong! LOL…
Joe, I think Moeller definitely has to be called up ; if Logan has to go down, so be it.
I just heard the announcer (Mike Shannon) on Cardinals radio give around the league update totals.
He mentioned all the teams that won. When he got to the Yankees He said Yankees OUTLASTED Baltimore, what a jerk! You beat a team by 5 runs, not outlast punk!
There is no Jeter out there, but the othr two are there. Also Joe Mauer = Johnny Beach. Weiters may be Yogi as well.
———————————————————————————————————————-
Johnny ***Beach*** was a bum. Only Andy Etchebarren could be another Yogi.
Posada: “No, I’m not going to the DL. Nothing’s broken. Nothing’s damaged…get here tomorrow and see how it feels.”
Who cares about Posada. Cervelli should be playing more!!
“If I could create a parallel universe, I’d remove Posada from the Yankee lineup just to illustrate what his absence would do to the lineup.”
No need for a parallel universe when you have history. We already lived through 2008.
Hopefully Jorge will be ok to stay active and DH.

Thanks.

Those guys will pick it up soon. We’ll be alright if he’s out for a few games. Don’t want to take any chances with him. If it’s a substantial amount of time, then we’re in a bit of trouble.
My parallel universe would run a half season or so. That would be sufficient, most likely, to sink the ship.
bodha
They’d go to the non-obvious rather than the obvious because being wrong would never occur to them.
Oh, I know they’ll pick it up; I’m just disappointed that Jorge is going to be out. If he has to be DL’d then so be it…..
At least Cervill is hot right now. He’s batting .444 and seems to pick up an RBI almost every opportunity he gets.
The Yankees come home on Friday and Saturday is May 1. I see Tex heating up soon (he has already started hitting the ball harder).
If we win tomorrow, look for fans to be calling for Po to be Pipped by Frankie
Bodhi you are so right on!
The weather is going to be nice this weekend, I think in the 80′s on Saturday. That might help some of these guys heat up.

Selective amnesia, I guess. Why else would people have been screaming for Molina to take his place on AJ night? There was actually a bozo on another site who suggested Posada should be completely eliminated from the Angels series, or they would run all over him and we would lose because of him….This guy was not alone, he had several allies, who smugly agreed.
Wasn’t much better in here, as I recall.
If the bruise is bad enough, he might not even be able to dh. It might affect his swing, no?
Can we have a parallel universe where the Yankees have advanced gene therapy to successfully override the loser gene with the winner gene?
MTU, others may have seen it differently, but, it wasn’t there tonight. He had a couple of 99 MPH and a couple of 101 MPH fastballs reported but, left a few pitches up over the center of the plate and they were tagged. Think of Russo as a David Eckstein with a bat and he pulled a 93 MPH hanging slider.

Maybe we can secede? Found a Posada Appreciation virtual island? Dunno
.

Well, either way it was great that you got a chance to see him.
Let see if he improves. Appreciate the update as always.

That’s exactly what would happen, pat. It has happened! But it’s nice to see the Jorge love in here at this moment.
.
and, Feliz coughs up two runs against the White Sox to blow the 2 out 9th inning lead.
Are these parallel universes like the ones on Fringe???
Cause I would really like it if Joshua Jackson is in the parallel universe too!
new thread
Alt-X timeline without Jorge???
KABOOM!
“It… worked.”

The posada nonsense here was really over the top. Unfortunately it was a handful of poster (one in particular) who just kept posting about it over and over and over and wouldn’t let it go.
When people tried to reason with those posters rationally it made no difference and the whole thing mutated into an endless and unecessary flame war that went on across threads and on and on for days.
The posada bashers just continued to make cheap, unsupported knocks on posada and when people tried to reason with them it was completely ignored. They also made it very personal, often calling into question how team oriented Posada was and stating that his temperment was a “problem.”
It was ideological in this really bizarre way. But those who were killing Posada were just relentless.
It was so bad that I simply stopped posting or reading the blog for several weeks.

Bizarre is the word for it. I also withdrew from the place. It made me feel a little sick in my stomach to read people smugly knocking a great Yankee.
They question his team dedication? Not very alert, those Yankee fans. Do they think Jeter would so cotton to a guy who wasn’t a team-first player? Just made up stuff to justify the indefensible.
My guess is, if you’re an emotional guy, you need to be more Aryan looking – like Paul O’Neill. It’s endearing when the fairer-haired kick in water coolers.
Those people can go straight to hell.
If you can round up Ryan Reynolds and Boone from Lost, I’ll join you in that parallel universe, Erica.
I just want to add – I never said Montero was going to come up now.
I was thinking later in the year – July ish. If Posada or Cervelli goes down for 15 days, we might get to see him then.
