Andrew-You are so wrong. To use the term “soft” to describe Cano is ridiculous.
Cano is smooth. When he hits the ball, he is smooth. When he plays D, he is smooth.
Don’t confuse being smooth(like Rod Carew) with “soft”.
So wrong!!

I thought Winn might play, also. I understand Joe’s using Gardner, with the two lefties pitching on Sat-Sun, but, at some point I think he has to use Winn more. Unless, Joe sees something that we onlookers do not.

Pedroia never got benched for lack of hustle like Cano did. That is where his reputation comes from, not from making a play look difficult.

Seems to be getting too easy. Maybe GTLU should include 1st relief pitcher to enter the game and 1st pinch hitter. lol
I won’t use Winn at the detriment to Gardner, especially if Gardner continues to hit while in the lineup.
i’ll take cano and his ‘reputation’ over pedroia and his ‘effort’ to make pays that most people make without that much effort everyday.

I used Winn for Granderson
I had him in the right spot though. LOL. Winn is hitting .385 against Garcia. Granderson is .185 I believe

Although, nothing makes me cry quite like that movie. My sister used to catch me watching it sometimes and yell at me for torturing myself
I think Granderson will sit tomorrow vs Danks (probably) or Sunday vs Buerle (less likely).
At what point do the Yanks have to at least consider moving BG to center vs lefties and sitting CG more often than not vs lefties?

I really think its natural for some people. But I HATE it.
18 out of 27 guessed right today.
I like Cano… but how many MPV’s has he won? Pedroia already has one
Pedroia also has 2 all-star appearances and he has only been in the big leagues for 3 years going into this year. Cano only has 1 AS appearance in 5 seasons.
Pedroia also is a clutch hitter, something Cano has to still prove over the course of the season.
Cano is a better player. but it certainly isn’t by much and quietly, Pedroia has carved out a very nice start to his career through only 3 seasons. He is also one of the leaders of that team as well.
The grinder/gamer stuff is nonsense. Pedroia actually gets underrated because people view him as some kind little engine that could. He is a good player and has proved it in 3 seasons now. As detailed above, he has accomplished a good amount in his first 3 years.

I think that might even be a conservative statement. Cano is the best Yankees second baseman in the last 50 years.
You have to go back to Rizzuto to find anyone that should even be in the conversation. Randolph was scrappy and had longevity, but he was no Cano.

It’s too early to even consider that. Now you might see Thames subbing at DH against lefties, but his play in the field is pretty bad.

Pedroia has unreal contact ability but he is entirely a product of Fenway park. Cano would hit anywhere.

I have friends who do it, and I even find myself doing it with my family/friends sometimes. But in a professional capacity? Never.
TRUTH:
That MVP Pedroia won in 08 was a JOKE, every one’s numbers were down across the league. The fact that Pedroia won with those numbers and Jeter did not win with better numbers in 06 or 09 is a travesty. I actually think Pedroia is OVER-RATED, much in part because he is a product of Fenway park.
The Cano/Pedroia comparison will be a moot point after this season.

that was the biggest joke of an mvp award. His numbers were average at best. No way did he deserve that. I’d even argue he wasnt the best player on his own team that year (Youkilis).
.326 17HR 86 RBI and a .376 OBP. Yeah no one has ever done that. Give me a break!
From the last thread. Some Matsui people are hush-hush now because they have enough sense not to cry over spilt sake. Nothing to do at all with how Cano is doing!
vs. Danks
Granderson – 1-19 (.053), 3 Ks
Thames – 1-1, double, (.071) 7 Ks
Winn – 0-3
vs. Burhlee
Granderson – 5-23 (.217), 4 doubles, HR, 2 walks, 5 Ks
Thames – 5-27 (185), 1 triple, 1 HR, 2 walks, 8 Ks
Winn – 6-30 (.200), 1 HR, 1 doublm 5 Ks
Ironically, both Thames and Winn have great numbers vs. Garcia. Thames is hitting .333 with a HR, Winn is hitting .385 with 2 HRs.
Robbie is better than Pedroia. Only 2nd basemen better than Cano is Utley.
Anyone who would take Pedroia over Cano clearly has not watched Cano play every game for the last 5 years.
Winn is fine playing the role of the 25th man on the roster. Let’s all be thankful that our starting OF is playing pretty good.
We don’t want Winn out there 5 days a week.
Winn knows his role. He will get an occasional start. Could be tomorrow to give someone a blow or maybe on Sunday.

Think Joe would win for sure Saturday. Day game after night game, left handed pitcher, Jorge hurt (will he play) do Curtis and Brett play against the lefty, does NJ play, do Winn and Thames play in the outfield. Would be some intresting lineups.
As much as I want Jorge back in the line-up, I think it would be a great idea to give
him the entire weekend off.
Cervelli can handle catching 4-5 consecutive games.
the Scooter Rizzuto was a SS not 2B…..Billy Martin was a 2B, Tony Lazzeri and Bobby Richardson were also 2B….I guess Joe Gordon would be considered the best Yankee 2B…way before my time but….
When it’s all said and done Cano on his current career arc will be considered the best Yankee 2B off all time.

OK…I am no expert, I am asking for real.
I do not get to see too much of Utley. Obviously I saw him play last year in WS.
I looked at his career stats…pretty solid. But he is alot older then Cano.
Why is it that he is the guy…is it his defense?
After this year, maybe the comparisons of Cano and other second basemen will be seen in a completely different light. Cano is really showing a lot of power now.
