Francesa is doing some sort of contest and the question was: ?gwhat year did Jeter win the WS MVP?h. The lady on the phone said ?gI dont know Mike?h so he told her to take a guess. Her answer ?g1992??.

LOL.
The world needs stupid people. They make the rest of us look smarter
And who was the Yankees SS back in ‘92?
_______________________________________________________________________
I dont remember, but in my defense I was only 6/7 in 1992 lol
Hmm, Jorge still banged up, I guess.
going samezies tonight except for miranda..
And who was the Yankees SS back in ‘92?
___
Mike Gallego?
Woo hoo! I actually won. It’s been a while.
1992, was it Tony Fernandez? He was the incumbent that Jeter replaced, I know that much.
or Velarde?
No Swisher
Or Spike Owen, maybe. Yankees had quite the void at SS in the early 90s
Tony Fernandez………
Looks like David Price overtook Phil as best young pitcher in the AL, lol. His ERA must be miniscule now.
If I had to guess I would have said Tony Fernandez. But I think he was more 1994/1995
Better to not throw Swish and Posada with Beanball Beckett on the mound.
I’m really hoping for a rain-out. The Pen and some nicked up guys need the day off….
Andy Stankiewicz?
‘Cisco better put extra padding in the Gazoo helmet if they do play.
He seems to be like a clay pigeon for Red Sox pitchers.
It’s time for that to end.
i am interested to see if they give miranda 10 games what he can do.. right now they are short on the left side..
even without 4 starters there lineup is top 10…….
Anyone else think the Jeter/Gardner order should be flipped?
I know moving Jeter to leadoff last year was “magical” but that’s in part because of Damon’s power and that he wasn’t running as much.
I like Gardner ahead of Jeter where his speed is more valuable and will give Jetes some opportunities. Plus Gardner running probably won’t annoy Jeter as much as it would power hitters Tex and Alex.
thoughts?
In 1992, Velarde and Andy Stankiewicz had about 400 ABs apiece while splitting the duties at short, according to the MLB.com stats. The immortal Dave Silvestri played a few games at short as well.
I looked it up-
The starting SS for the 1992 Yankees was Andy Stankiewicz
http://www.baseball-reference......1992.shtml
Spike Owen?
Stankiewicz was the starter of the 92 Yankees, according to Baseball-Ref. The team had Velarde and Gallego as subs. People that complain about this year’s lineups even with all these guys injured, man the Yankees were bad offensively in ’92
http://www.baseball-reference......1992.shtml
Ledger_Yankees Swisher says he hit left handed off a tee today but he’s still out of the lineup. “What’s one more day?” he said.
Price – 1.81 ERA
Thankfully we are not facing him. Garza, either. Those two give us by far the most problems of any Tampa pitchers
Erin,
Congratulations. I thought that Posada and Swisher would be back. Guess have to wait till tomorrow for that.
DING DING DING…Winner!
Whenever I turn on YES during the day, Mike is reading from some white paper.
Does he do that the whole show? What exactly is he reading every day?
Price’s ERA is 1.84…….but, I was being facetious; he has been amazing, though.
Mark in Tampa
my red sox lovin sister’s text to me this am “why can’t they just lose? why do they have to break our hearts?”
congrats Erin
I liked your line up, but decided to put Swish in

Erin,
Congratulations. I thought that Posada and Swisher would be back. Guess have to wait till tomorrow for that.

Thank you! I figured with the rain Sado and Swish would sit out one more day.
“Anyone else think the Jeter/Gardner order should be flipped?”
It makes a lot of sense, but maybe the Yankees themselves are not sure if Gardner is going to keep this up. Also, Jeter really doesn’t give a basestealer a lot of chances to run since he has been swinging so early and often.
Could also be that they would be reluctant to change yet another part of the order when so much has changed already b/c of injury.
You can’t figure the weather! It’s one of those things you can’t explain! MARCUS THAMES….helps the Yankees win! Wait a minute Suzyn, didn’t I say that for Randy Winn? Nevermind! Now, it’ll be, DO I MAKE YOU RANDY WINN?

Congrats Roger!!
Pat M, because you’re one of the people here I trust to be honest in your responses, and not try to change the argument, put up a smokescreen, or twist my words in order to make it look like I said one thing when I actually said another, I will address my response to you. I certainly understand the here and now of baseball and I also know how to apply perspective. The only player IMO who can make a difference to the Sux fortune is Jacoby Ellsbury. I don’t know whether or not he will do it but I still don’t think it can make enough of a difference to a team with spotty offense, in 4th place and 8.5 – soon to be 9 – games behind the division leader and soon to be 10 games behind in the loss column. In addition, they have to pass not one but three teams to get to the top.
I am going on what I see and what I know of the team, the same way I do with my own team. I don’t think I had a lot of support on this forum when I said the Yankees would take it all, and continued to say it throughout the season. In fact I saw more doubt than anything else at times.
I got my head handed to me when I tried to say the Jays were a good team. Some of the more prominent members of this forum basically said I had it wrong. I said I was talking the here and now and I was still told I was mistaken. Well they are still doing a good job and my position about them hasn’t changed. I think the Sux are dead in the water and will not be resurrecting themselves. It doesn’t mean that they won’t win any more games. It means that I don’t think they are going to be a defining force whatsoever.
I realize my views don’t get the play and respect of some others here, but that’s really of no moment because I’ve learned to trust my views. While my track record on what individual players the Yankees might get hasn’t been the best (I don’t spend a lot of time on it since I ultimately trust they know what they’re doing ) my views on a lot of other matters have been on the money.
Anyway, I think it’s fine for us to have opposing opinions. I respect your view and I trust you respect mine.
Oh 1992 memories! Pat Kelly and Andy Stankeiwicz in the middle of the infield and Meldio Perez, Scott Sanderson, Scott Kamieniecki and Tim LEary heading up the rotation!
ten games bloe .500 despite a pretty darn good bullpen…
Here we go all over again with ped’s.
Mr. Vee – I think that there are quite a few people who are very happy with what he adds to the lineup.
Price has faced a few cupcakes ???
YankeesWFAN There is no “official word” on playing tonight’s game. Its on until its off. Got nothing else for ya.
Odds that Joe Girardi would have referred to Stankiewicz as ‘Stanky’: 100%.
Now there’s a nick-name you do not want, ever.
great job to all of you that researched or tested their memory regarding just who played SS back in ’92
i didn’t want to look up the info. i was hoping to recall.
my guess would have been Spike Owen.

Don’t want to have to play a 5 game series in August against the Sox, when they will be much healthier and their pitching is much better order.
What if we have a bad series and lose 4 of 5? Don’t like giving Boston a chance to get back in the race in August with a good series against us, that is probably the only way to do it, by beating us head to head a few games in a row. Get them now while they are down.
Scooter loved Stankiewicz.
Francessa playing detective with the Galea (sp?) story. Athletes “A-Z” in various cities in 2009 received treatments. Matching up dates , teams and cities. A lot in Cleveland. PEDs and baseball big news but NFL gives ROY to guy with failed test.

Beltre 3B

Pitching: RHP Josh Beckett (1-1, 7.46)/
Jeter>all of the ’92 Yankees shortstops
LOL
It’s a good thing Jeter came along. Remember when Robert Eenhoorn and Andy Fox were the infield prospects?
Had the right players, but mixed up the order.
The biceps injury to Swisher needs to heal quickly.
I’m concerned about his injury because he is just another player with power we need
to help us win this season.
Thanks Erin! That was a smart move to copy paste my lineup..haha lol
Good news…I hope…

The indictment on that Toronto doctor lists the cities where he “consulted” with professional athletes during the 8 month period they’re investigating. Apparently, Cleveland was the city with the most “patients.” Interesting. Boston was on that list.
Hoffman just blew a save, maybe Balfour follows suit?
Need Yankee baseball. Wah.
Did Kevin Maas rip the cover off the ball for the ’92 team, LOL
fake SJ44 ftw?
game looking as doubtful as doubtful gets
The players need to take the skirt off. It is a little rain. What are they afraid of getting wet?
Nonsense. That is the problem with players today, they are too worried about the money and looking good on the field and playing to the camera rather than playing good hard baseball.
Back in my day, we played in monsoons. There was no such thing as a ‘rain delay; There was no weather delays ever. We played in 118 heat index days in Palm Springs. We used to play in 60 MPH winds at the old Kauffmann Stadium in KC. The Winter Leagues were not in Florida. They were in South Philadelphia or CT. Yes, we used to play in 10 inches of snow.
The game needs to stop treating the players like children. They are men, they can handle a litle rain. Again, the players from my day are rolling in their grave thinking about how soft the game has become.
“take the skirt off” ?

Holy Geez! Awesome Erica is only 29! How’d you get so wise for being so young?!
maybe he’s referring to female field hockey players. In which case, he may be onto something.

You were a wimp. Back in my day, we used to play in floods. I remember back in 64, 5 feet of water in the infield and it didn’t slow us down at all. We laughed at 5 feet of water. My dad used to tell me how back in his day, the really big flood of ’37, they played in 10 feet of water, but he did admit it slowed them down some.

“GTLU Closed at 2:30″
I am sorry Erica, I was not able to get my lineup in until 2:44. I hope that since my submission was in before the official lineup was announced, it will be accepted. (It’s wrong anyway.. LOL) I guess I never understood why the need for a cutoff time anyway.
Thank you.

Doreen GTLU.. Thanks
SS – Jeter
CF – Gardner

3B – A-Rod
2B – Cano
DH – Posada
RF – Thames
C – Cervelli
LF – Winn
the Roberto Kelly for Paul O’Neill trade was so HUGE, there really is no font to do it justice.
The Yanks really started establishing their identity, and O’Neill was as big a part of that as anyone, imho.
I’ve heard enough about PEDs. I could careless if these players are using. Don’t really care anymore.
trisha – OPPC member who sees, hears, and knows all. 28 is on its way!!!!! May 18th, 2010 at 3:51 pm
You aren’t the only one who thought Toronto was a good team. I thought Wells would be much better this year since he is finally playing w/o an injury. And I like their stable of pitchers. I actually picked them to finish ahead of RSox last year, but I was premature on that one.
I had the right guys in the wrong order. Strange that he put two righties, Thames and Cervelli back to back.
I don’t think it makes much of a difference having Jeter or Gardy bat first. Tex will get more fastballs with a speedy runner on 1st.
According to weather.com, it looks as though the current rain system may move out by about 6-6:30. If so, the question will be whether or not too much rain has fallen.
Nicely said in the lengthy comment above, Trisha.
“some of the people who are saying or implying they know the game really don’t have much experience in it except for watching it.”
Randy, serious question – how would you know who and who doesn’t have experience playing the game?
“if you hear someone on this blog never having any self doubt about their ideas or simply never wondering about things out loud in public that’s your clue that they were a know it all before they ever hit this forum.”
The problem with this premise is its reliant upon what you choose to remember. It’s a sweeping generalization based on prejudice where you’re entirely motivated to remember what you choose to when it reinforces the impression you WANT to have and disregarding or overlooking what doesn’t fit tidily into the profile you’re trying to sell.
“personally the know it alls who have no experience anywhere close to the game are way more annoying to me than the trolls.”
Coming from a self-professed anti-thinker, that makes perfect sense.
But here is your problem, and this problem isn’t inherent to this forum or discussion about baseball, it’s inherent in any venue where people who think and choose not to co-mingle.
You’ve said NOTHING of relevance to an ISSUE ever discussed here.
You’re doing what people who can’t hang in substantive arguments do – you go for ad hominem character attacks against the people who frustrate you. It’s a method as ancient as it is transparent but only limited in its effectiveness – can’t discredit the argument – try to discredit the person offering it.
But the problem here is, no one is trading on PERSONAL credibility. Whether anyone has or hasn’t played the game.… whether anyone is or isn’t of a certain personality has nothing to do with anything, until that person makes those things the premise of their argument – “believe me for no other reason than I’M saying it” …
…. and no one is doing that.
The differences of opinion you find some personally frustrating Randy are never argued on personal terms. No one is trying to cash in on who they are or what they’ve done, perhaps except you.
Whatever side of an issue you’re on, the differences should be and for the most part are being argued on substance and merit.
That you’re trying to attack people in general rather than what they argue is for a reason.
I’ll let you try to figure out what that reason is…
Stucky-
Do you realize how hypocritical
your post is?
