Watching the rain in the Bronx

Posted by: Chad Jennings - Posted in Misc on May 18, 2010 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

photoThe weather is not promising here at Yankee Stadium. Bryan Hoch and I are braving the first row of the open press box, but that’s mostly because we’re really dumb. Most everyone else has moved back a row.

There’s no announcement yet about a delay or a rainout, but it doesn’t look good.

As for actual news, the Yankees have announced that Nick Johnson had surgery today. The procedure was done at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital by hand specialist Dr. Melvin Rosenwasser who remove inflamed tissue from his right wrist. According to the Yankees official announcement, “it will be a minimum of 4-6 weeks before Johnson is able to swing a bat.”

    Quick question:

What happens if Jeter hits below 290 (which would be the lowest of his career) regarding his next contract in terms of years/$$ and doesn’t put up his typical numbers?

For those of you that will be home (or have a DVR), the Scranton game tomorrow is on the MLB Network. It’s an early afternoon affair.

how about calling up jesus montero and letting him DH

I just wish they’d cancel the game already…..

Jerkface, I understand what you?re saying about Phil?s cutter and I have no problem with it not being his main pitch (I guess that?s what CB was trying to convey- maybe I just didn?t understand it). If he?s a quick learner, he?ll start mixing in his pitches instead of depending on 2 of them; big league hitters aren?t stupid.

    Re-post

    Quick Question:

My son mentioned to me last night that it seems that every time Cervelli is in, the Yankees win and every time or almost every time lately Jorge is in they lose. Could Jorge be losing his touch or calling for the wrong pitches to some batters? Maybe Cervelli is a breath of fresh air for the pitchers? Could there be any truth to this or is it just a coincidence?

  11. ron May 18th, 2010 at 3:35 pm

  12. DVAT May 18th, 2010 at 3:35 pm

UPDATE (2:45 PM): A dry slot that has developed over the Washington D.C./Baltimore metropolitan area is racing northeastward towards the New York City metropolitan area for this evening. Ahead of this dry slot, rain will be very heavy with very poor visibility and the potential for flash flooding and dangerous driving conditions. However, by 7:00 PM, the heaviest rain will be over and taper off to scattered showers and drizzle. Raw yet playable conditions. I now believe this game will be played or at least will be playable by the expected start time of the game. A delay is still possible until 8 PM. Winds will be from the east around 10 to 20 mph with higher gusts and temperatures will be in the upper 40’s to lower 50’s. A rather uncomfortable night to be at the ball park, but they’ve played in worse.

Game Delay Potential: HIGH: The heaviest rain will exit, but scattered showers and drizzle will linger.
Game Postponement: LOW: The steady rain will come to an end by game time, depending on the conditions on the field, the game will have a good chance to be played.

  15. ac1 May 18th, 2010 at 3:36 pm

how does CC keep getting screwed by rain?

  16. JM May 18th, 2010 at 3:36 pm

Another nice game for David Price. Rays beating the Tribe, 5-1. Guess it will be up to us to slow them down Wednesday and Thursday.

  17. jz May 18th, 2010 at 3:37 pm

oh man, Cisco has been amazing with RISP.

  18. ANSKY May 18th, 2010 at 3:37 pm

    joelh –

Jeter could go on the 60 day DL and hit 250, and it won’t effect his next contract unless the prognosis were that whatever put him on the DL was a career ending or career threatening injury.

In other words, Jeter’s going to make so much in his next contract, that he won’t notice losing a penny if there were a 30-point drop in this season’s batting average.

Weather is a shame. I was looking forward to a brawl tonite with punk arse Beckett on the mound and CC who isnt happy with him.

Nick just need another prescription for pain killers. Dont you get it? The man loves surgery.

Dear Yankees, Please call the game so I do not get dragged onto a meaningless train ride. Thanks, the truth

The Yankees want you to go anyway. Pay $20 to park. Drink 3 $10 beers and then leave :-)

  29. Betsy - Hughes rules (Pleading the Fifth) May 18th, 2010 at 3:40 pm

I heard that, lol – that was NO Yankee fan.

  30. jz May 18th, 2010 at 3:41 pm

It’s easy to make high $ from Yankees.

  31. Patrick from CT May 18th, 2010 at 3:42 pm

Oh Boy, it’s going to be another long night…
When these games start at 7pm I don’t get to bed until midnight.

  32. jarrett May 18th, 2010 at 3:43 pm

Did anybody else other than myself notice that Metallica band manager Cliff Burnstein was sitting directly behind the plate, 3rd row during the game last night?
This is the 2nd time I have seen him sitting in those exact seats w/a male friend this season.

  34. Bob Aboey May 18th, 2010 at 3:50 pm

    I thought that was Metallica’s Cliff Burton…

Looking at radar from around the region, the rain is moving north and there is a nice area where there is no rain. This looks to be around the city by gametime so hopefully they can get the game in.

  36. J ano May 18th, 2010 at 4:21 pm

Did anyone else notice those two hot blondes sitting behind the the yankee dug-out, that were always on camera when a left hander came up?

I wonder what their motive was…

  37. Rachael May 18th, 2010 at 5:03 pm

I’m sitting in the middle of midtown staring at a clear-looking front traveling toward the Bronx . . . I have a gut feeling that they’ll get this game in (fingers crossed).
