Granderson to begin rehab assignment

Posted by: Sam Borden - Posted in Misc on May 21, 2010 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

Curtis Granderson, who strained his groin running the bases way on May 1, is headed out on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. According to Joe Girardi, Granderson will play 5-6 games with the SWB Yankees and the hope is that he might be back next week.

In other injury news, Marcus Thames still has a sore ankle and will test it during batting practice. His availability will be re-evaluated after BP.

Back with more later and, hopefully, some Girardi audio.

I respect your opinions. Maybe you can see it from my point of view.

You said Betsy either enjoys annoying people or getting attention. Is it possible that she is worried, and looks to others on here to help quell her worries?

For example, me personally, I dont enjoy annoying people or getting negative attention. I do, however, get angry/furious sometimes, and post on here to relieve myself of the anger, and in the hopes that others will help quell my anger.

    Good news for once!!!

  5. Jeremy May 21st, 2010 at 5:29 pm

I have to laugh at the Daily news writers. They think the Mets are going to beat the Yankees down. It might happen if the Yankees don’t show up, but I think the Yankees will at least take 2 out of 3.

If the Mets can’t even beat teams like the Nats and Marlins I don’t see them winning this series.

hopefully MT can pinch hit, otherwise, we might need CC to bat for a pitcher tonight.

What are we giving up -Hughes for Soria? Hope not.

side note, i would have liked BG hitting 8th tonight, so if he gets on, which he has a lot this year, then he can be bunted over by Javier.

    Thoughts-

When Granderson is fully healthy, will he be back in center or will he be our leftfielder?

  11. Jennifer May 21st, 2010 at 5:33 pm

Considering how popular and how much money lohud is seemingly making off this blog you’d think they’d hire Someone to keep watch over it. Apparently many can’t handle the freedom of not having big brother watching.

If Ace gets healthy there will be no need to trade for a bullpen arm at the deadline.

Roy Oswalt Requests Trade From Houston
By Mark Polishuk [May 21 at 4:24pm CST]
The Chicago Tribune’s Mark Gonzales is reporting that Astros ace Roy Oswalt has asked Houston owner Drayton McLane Jr. to be dealt before the July 31 trade deadline. Oswalt said last week that he was “open” to a potential deal and would waive his no-trade clause if he could join a contending team.

Oswalt has been rumored to be possibly the top starter available at the deadline, and after a somewhat shaky 2009 season, he has looked like his old self this year — a 2.66 ERA and 3.75 K/BB ratio in nine starts, though his record is just 2-6 for the last-place Astros. The right-hander is guaranteed to earn $15MM this season and $16MM in 2011, so it’s a steep price for a pitcher who will be 33 in August. We’ve already heard that the Mets might not have the money to make a play for Oswalt, though given their recent struggles, they might not be looking to add players at the deadline anyway.

  24. Steve May 21st, 2010 at 5:45 pm

It’s probably best for Brett Gardner to remain in CF when Granderson returns. He hasn’t embarrassed himself or the team and is covering his routes well.

  25. Joe May 21st, 2010 at 5:50 pm

Don’t want to see Oswalt in Boston.

  26. vblade May 21st, 2010 at 5:52 pm

Boston’s already paying Lackey and Beckett $35M or so combined. I doubt they take on another $16M.

  27. Matt May 21st, 2010 at 5:52 pm

Granderson hasn’t played at on of left field, while Gardner has and has dazzled. If both are comparable in center field, which it seems that they are, it makes sense to put the most experienced left fielder (especially in Yankee Stadium with the sun) out there.

Don’t you all think this has gone on long enough. You are supposed to be adults who for the most part are Yankees fans. Last night people were so disgusting, I left the blog. And now again you are being abusive to people on this blog. And I don’t believe for one minute that Ray VT wasn’t being impersonated, I have read enough of his posts. Enough!!! If you don’t like the people in here go to a sewer and find your own kind.

  38. champ809 May 21st, 2010 at 5:57 pm

I’m sure you won’t see Oswalt in Boston as they’d have to give up Bucholz and Lars Anderson for him I’m sure and then take on another 30 mil in $ to pitchers every pitcher on their staff would be making between 12 and 18 mil.

The team that should be lining him up is the Phillies because as they are presently constituted they are woefully short on SP after Halladay…

    Halladay
    Oswalt
    Hamels
    Happ/Blanton

That may get them back in the series against us..

    SAS -

I’m thinking of taking the night off from the blog. I didn’t always participate in the game threads. But back a couple of seasons ago, people used to talk about what went on during the game threads and it seemed like they really enjoyed them. Unfortunately, as they got more popular and populated, it’s not so much fun anymore. I find myself with agita and stopping myself from posting responses to the negativity.

So, I’m going to try to stay away during the game. If they’re winning, I’ll venture back. But if they’re losing – I’ll come back about a half hour after the game. It should be safe by then. :)

  41. SAS May 21st, 2010 at 5:59 pm

  46. Nick in SF May 21st, 2010 at 6:02 pm

As for Oswalt, I predict he will be traded to the Dodgers, which means he’ll be Jamie McCourt’s pool boy by October.

  47. blake May 21st, 2010 at 6:03 pm

The Mets could really use Oswalt, although the whole contender thing could be an issue. He could make a big difference for the Phils.

  48. Banjo May 21st, 2010 at 6:03 pm

  50. Chuck58 May 21st, 2010 at 6:03 pm

Also Ran, having Curtis come back after 2 rehab games would essentially be asking him to re-do ST, only in the middle of the season against folks going full-tilt. I understand what you are saying about Winn, but it would possibly screw with his head, and we sure don’t need that. It’s a marathon, not a sprint – no worries!

Meanwhile, that other Chuck from earlier is not me. :-)

  51. m May 21st, 2010 at 6:04 pm

    SAS,

Are you saying that RayVT really said those awful things? If so, I strongly disagree. It’s the same stuff that some sicko has posted under the names of several regulars.

Over a week ago when someone first started attacking CR9, I emailed Chad. He deleted the post and banned the ISP (internet address). Of course, there’s a way of working around it as we can see.

Sadly, Chad said it’s a person who posts often. So, yes, there’s a sicko amongst us.

  52. rconn23 May 21st, 2010 at 6:04 pm

Hey all. Before I repost the “good news!” post, I will put an offer out there. Fran and I were talking about the negativity that sometimes pervades the game thread and the fact that we have a safe haven and we agreed that we would be willing to have some of the other “positive posters” use it as a refuge if need be. We have already had a few of the regulars request admission, and we decided it is fine. It’s more a chat line set up than posting the way this is set up, but it works fine for us. It might get a little crowded in there but we don’t mind.

If you are interested in finding out how to get there, feel free to email me at yankeetrisha@verizon.net. I can tell you now that there won’t be open admission. We’re well aware of the posters who tend to stay upbeat and those who don’t. So please don’t bother emailing if you don’t fit into the first category.

We only use this during game threads though anyone is free to go there at any time. I “own” the forum, so I can allow admission (or reject it). A sign up is necessary but it’s pretty simple. If you sign up you certainly don’t have to use it. You can also feel free to roam the forum and make any comments you want to. Just know it’s there if you want it. Many have been the times that we’ve been able to have rational discussion about what goes on with the Yankees without having a pall put on the discussion by people who are per pitch or per AB fans.

  80. GreenBeret7 May 21st, 2010 at 6:19 pm

  91. Banjo May 21st, 2010 at 6:28 pm

Here is a scouting report when he first signed:

Hisanori is a slight, undersized pitcher who had his best year in 2009. He is peaking right now. He does not overpower people…relies on more off-speed stuff and pitch selection to get his outs. He logs many innings, and can give up bad innings, but not terrible innings. I do not believe he would be dominant at the MLB level, but he could be a good middle reliever if he is not asked to go too many innings…could be very similar to Hideki Okajima, but with a more orthodox delivery.

I will say again that anytime I have had occasion to email Chad, he has always been extremely and immediately responsive. We all know the pitfalls of forums with open registration (some like the idea, others don’t) and changing the registration process here certainly isn’t Chad’s call. But in the meantime if someone is crafty enough to switch IP addresses there’s not much Chad or anyone else can do about that under the current setup.

Also – his best pitch is a screwball and lefties hit over .300 against him in Japan (from the Metsblog scouting report) and isin’t a real ‘innings eater’ which is why he is better suited for the pen

Look at the Yankees forum, on Yankees.com, registration required, and still a massive amount of trolling. There’s always ways around it.

GB7 If true, where will Winfree fit in on the major league team.

I agree. Their strengths are different though. Granderson is Fast, gets good jumps & has an above average arm.

Gardner is extremely fast, average jump, & weak arm.

Both do the job. But usually put the weaker arm in LF. Granderson won’t be in either field until he is ready to go full speed.

You said Betsy either enjoys annoying people or getting attention. Is it possible that she is worried, and looks to others on here to help quell her worries?

Is it really possible to “worry” that much?

    trisha -

it’s my opinion there has been no regular poster on this site that i can think of who has been more negative , more annoying, or fought with more people than you.

basically it sounds like since you can’t control the discussions on this site , though you try with sometimes 15% of the comments, you want people you approve of to come to your site so you can be in charge.

    makes sense to me .

anything that gets you somewhere else is good news to me.

YES! It’s possible to worry THAT much. I am the KING of worrying. I am a total Drama queen.

My dogs sniff around outside like normal dogs, and I tell them to knock it off, because I dont want their noses in anything that could hurt them.

I baby proof a house for dogs, for gods sake, because I dont want them to eat anything that will get them sick.

    RayVT –

“Gardner is extremely fast, average jump, & weak arm. . .”

Think he is getting better with his jump (nice catch on sinking liner a few days ago) and looks a little stronger in tracking balls over his head. Agree that he still needs improvement in tracking balls, but he does seem to have gotten better.

I feel he has an average arm, but does have a quick release and his throws are accurate.

You are right, too much of a gamble for Granderson to play if he is not 100%.

There is no reason for that ****. I have never seen anyone else on this site take issue with Trisha besides you. Now, Im not insulting or attacking you, but do you think we could all be amicable here?

Have a great idea for a DH – Mike Piazza

Watching him on SNY now, he is still in great shape. I bet he could still hit 25 HRs.

No, he’s hitting about .285 with a bit of power and run production.

Tom in NJ, he’s been bad almost every time out so far. Haven’t seen him since last year, but, listen to the broadcasts. Mainly, he’s all over the place

I’m doing pretty well, tom. thanks for asking. Hoping that you and your family are doing well.

  118. trisha - OPPC member who sees, hears, and knows all. 28 is on its way!!!!! May 21st, 2010 at 6:55 pm

randy, you couldn’t be more wrong child. I know your panties are in a perpetual bunch so it makes it hard for you to ever read posts and get the real meaning but there is nothing I want less than to have a mass exodus. I said that we are only there during game time. However would that command an audience. You don’t know what kindness or sincerity are because you don’t possess either. It was an offer for those who don’t want to stick around when nuttiness prevails on the forum during a game. It was a sincere offer for that and nothing more.

I noticed you were giving SJ a hard time today about catchers. Maybe if you paid more attention to what SJ says you’d learn something.

Your anology about the sinking ship was ridiculous – not surprising coming from you – because the Yankees are not a sinking ship. However believe me when I tell you that you wouldn’t need to jump into shark-infested water because I would have pushed you overboard before you knew what hit you. You have to trust that my regard for you is nonexistent. But unlike you, I have the ability to bypass your prattle because you mean nothing to me. You on the other hand don’t have the ability to control your overwhelmingly distorted personality. Oh well.

As I told you, I received unsolicited emails from people telling me to totally ignore you. By and large I think I do a good job of it. Cry on my friend.

    Gardner has improved defensively.

  121. GreenBeret7 May 21st, 2010 at 7:03 pm

Romine has his 2nd RBI double in 2 at bats, both off of top of the left field wall and off of Casey Kelly. Laird has another RBI single off of top of the 37 foot wall. I said he had a double but it was a single on his first hit.
