A city divided

Apparently, the winner of this weekend’s series gets their colors in lights over the big city. Pretty cool.

Here’s the release:

The Empire State Building will light its world-famous tower lights in honor of the Yankees and Mets Subway Series on Friday, May 21, Saturday, May 22 and Monday, May 24, 2010. On Friday, May 21 and Saturday, May 22 the north/south sides of the building will be lit in Yankees blue and white, while its east/west sides will be lit in Mets blue and orange.

The team who wins the series will have its colors displayed on all four sides on Monday, May 24.

    Can’t blame you for trying CR9. :)

I had to make a judgment call, because as far as I know, no one else has done that, so it’s not explicit in the rules. (Now it will be!)

  10. Nick in SF May 22nd, 2010 at 2:09 pm

How about letting the Mets have their colors on the ESB for 2 nights in June and the Yanks have theirs for 27 nights?

viewing the regular comments on this site, i do hope people realize Francisco Cervelli is not going anywhere.

he will be New York Yankee (either as a starter or backup) for many years.

what happens with Montero/Romine/Murphy/Sanchez is fine to debate, but Cervelli isn’t going anywhere

“he will be New York Yankee (either as a starter or backup) for many years”

    Vinny-b

I am not so sure about that. If the powers that be feel he is playing over his head, and one of the youngsters is the real deal, I can see them moving him while his value is high.

The problem right now though, is none of the youngsters are ready yet.

  32. Nick in SF May 22nd, 2010 at 2:53 pm

@Doreen: smartphone and mobile wireless technology allow for lineup guesses from a variety of locations away from one’s home.

And since the LoHud Yankee blog is also the de facto LoHud Futbol blog, many are home watching the CL final.

If anyone wants to know when and what time GTLU is running, please go to the GTLU site by clicking on my name. I have a two-week calendar that includes time of the actual game, and GTLU times. You can also see the current standings for everyone with at least 1 win (that will be changing at some point), and on the blog portion of the site, you can see every day’s winning lineup, the winners and the list of participants. The game rules are also there.

    Useless fact for the day:

Thursday’s game vs. Tampa Bay marked the 600th game where Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez and Robinson Cano had played together as teammates.

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, it’s the longest stretch by a shortstop, third baseman and second baseman since Alan Trammell, Tom Brookens and Lou Whitaker played 625 games for the 1979-88 Detroit Tigers.

    Useless fact for the day:

Thursday’s game vs. Tampa Bay marked the 600th game where Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez and Robinson Cano had played together as teammates.

    ****************************
    That’s awesome! I don’t consider that a useless fact at all. :D

    Manchester United = The Mets?

Maybe Girardi doesn’t want to press his luck using Russo out in LF in that big ballpark.

Russo might be able to play LF but that doesn’t mean he plays it well.

Oh yeah, and Girardi likes to play the match up game since Winn is a switch hitter and Russo a right hander.

Some crazy lineup suggestions today – Miranda replacing Tex, Pena replacing Jeter, Moller/Pena/Winn all in the lineup together.

People forgot to keep it simple :D

Fairly useless unless a trivia contest or bar bet is involved but kind of amazing that no trio has done that in over 20 years and those three (knock wood) with good health will pass the Tigers trio this season.

Chris did not win. Chris had Miranda at 1b.

Kazmir getting some great run support in a 1 hit performance.

All pitchers on the down side should request a trade to the NL.

    Yankees = Man U = England

Awh man LAA 8-2 behind Kazmir, over Cardinals! Pujols has been shut down by Kazmir through 5.

Cardinals have 1 hit against Kazmir, courtesy of Holliday.
