Still waiting to talk to Joe Girardi, but here are some quick notes from the clubhouse.

– Javier Vazquez said his finger feels good. He took the bandage off yesterday morning and seemed optimistic heading into his bullpen.

– Marcus Thames said he’s able to play with no problems. His ankle is fine.

– Brett Gardner said he might have been pressing lately, but he said he hasn’t changed his approach since moving to the No. 2 spot in the lineup.

– Gene Monahan is here.

Great to have Geno off the DL.

My guess is that one or more of the players on the following list will get hurt tonight:
    ————————————————————————————–

    Derek Jeter
    Brett Gardner
    Mark Teixeira
    Alex Rodriguez
    Robinson Cano
    Nick Swisher
    Juan Miranda
    Francisco Cervelli
    Kevin Russo
    A.J. Burnett

Looking back to what several good followers of this blog posted, this team needs to tred water for the next two weeks (or four going back to original posts).

If they are still 10 about .500 in mid June, they’ll be in good shape.

Arguing about how to fix the lineup is pointless.

The guys who are hurting the lineup – Jeter and Teixeira – aren’t going to be moved out of the top of the lineup, so the lineup won’t be fixed as long as they are hitting poorly no matter who the third guy is, whether that guy bats first or second.

If and when Jeter and Tex start to hit better, it won’t really matter who is batting second, the lineup will have fixed itself.

Gotta go for now, hope we get good news tonight.

Heter in the two-hole only worked when you had a perfect #2 hitter in Damon. Had very good speed (despite SB totals), fouled off a lot of balls, had power, could execute hit and runs, hit for a good average, didn’t K much.

Now that you don’t have that, time to move him to #2. Gardner hitting 2nd is poor lineup construction. Swisher isin’t a #2 hitter either. Granderson might work but only against righties.

I know that some people want Tex out of the lineup, but that really isn’t a good idea. The Yankees need Tex to turn it around, and they have faith that he will. I don’t think that moving him to the #5 slot would be a terrible idea, but to be honest, I don’t think it really makes much of a difference if he bats #3 or #5. If anything, #3 is probably a better place for him to bat because he is more likely to get good pitches to hit with A-Rod behind him. If he is hitting in front of Swisher/Cervelli/Miranda he is going to get pitched around a lot more often, and its going to be harder for him to break out of this slump. I believe that Tex will turn it around and have a very productive season. Its very frustrating right now, but almost every great player goes through awful slumps. I’m pretty sure Jeter and A-Rod have had slumps like this before. Tex will finish with an average over .280, 35+ HRs, and 110+ RBIs. He is simply too talented to struggle like this all year.

    re-post:

randy, I think the real polarization is between the lineup when NJ and Posada and Granderson were in it and then they aren’t.

We were doing fine with NJ batting 2nd even though he wasn’t hitting. When the bottom of the lineup is Posada-Granderson-Swisher-Gardner, the poles melt away.

Girardi could flip Jeter and Gardner and it wouldn’t look all that different than it does when Gardner bats 9th and Jeter 1st. Fine with me if they want to take a temporary measure until Granderson returns, but it’s only 3 games until then, hopefully. Or 2, since they didn’t do it tonight.

We’ll see what happens when Granderson returns. I suspect he’ll hit 6th or 7th to start, then maybe he’ll supplant Gardner at 2nd if he hits well and Gardner doesn’t.

Will Jeter and Arod start running more and de-polarize LoHud????

    I doubt it.

When Granderson comes back Randy Winn should be released and Kevin Russo should still be on the team.
